According to the Oregon Health Authority, 365 people were tested at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church over the weekend. Many results are still pending, and health officials expect the number to go up.

...

OHA also said it cannot confirm if the church was holding services leading to the rise in cases or if officials like the governor will intervene.

“I can’t speak specifically to the congregation. What I can say, in general, when we’ve received complaints or we’ve received concerns or we receive information, they do get referred to the appropriate entities," said Carrie Brogoitti, Union County public health administrator.

OHA said, anecdotally, it does believe those 99 positive cases included many asymptomatic cases.

If that church held services against the governor's orders they should be billed for the cost of the tests and fined.

And their church should be burned to the ground, the land salted and their religion disbanded forevermore.

"A now-deleted video from the church’s Facebook page showed hundreds of worshipers singing, dancing, and jumping around during a service on May 24, when faith communities were not allowed to convene in large groups under Gov. Kate Brown’s reopening guidelines. The La Grande Observer reported the church recently held a wedding and a graduation ceremony that had over 100 people at each event.

A person who answered the phone at the church ended the call when asked about the outbreak by The Oregonian/OregonLive Monday. No one has answered the phone Tuesday

almost certain they were violating the guidelines. And we know why: they didn't believe the science or the advice of experts. They knew better because they were bathing in the power of god. Well, the virus doesn't believe in god but it does love new hosts, especially stupid ones

this situation isn't going to get better in the 5 or 6 weeks between now and when the NBA is supposed to resume

Psssh... obviously these amateurs weren't praying hard enough! Shouldn't have skipped-out on the "Pocket Jesus" option in their SpishakTM "Heaven 2 Go" starter packages.

"Life's tough... PRAY HARD!" When that fails!? PRAY HARDERRRRRRRR! I mean, duh!

Im shocked the big god man in the sky didn’t send a magic spell down ridding the earth of this pandemic

It seems to me that you are projecting your biases about Christianity onto people about whom you know nothing. I think it was not a smart choice to continue to meet in person at this time, but their reasons for doing so are their own; just as people downtown protesting are making their own choices to ignore the Governor’s orders because they feel it’s important to them.

Texas has had five consecutive days of record Corona virus cases. Some cities wanted to put in place mitigation efforts, like requiring masks and social distancing. The governor said he will block any such efforts.

Montgomery, Alabama hospitals are full. The city council today voted down mask requirements mostly along racial lines.

Trump issued executive order to open meat packing plants despite the fact they have been huge virus concentrations, so we can have enough meat. The industry just reported record meat export to China in April and May.

University of Washington model now forecasts 200,000 dead Americans by October 1.

Pence wrote an op-ed calling Corona virus "cause for celebration" thanks to Trump's leadership.

Keep America great.

great...it's "important" to them, and they are paying the price, just like the protestors might. Unfortunately, it won't be just the people who attended that church who will suffer the consequences of their irresponsible behavior. They will infect many other people in the community and some of those will get severely sick, and some of those may die.

so no, I am not going to stop judging those people as stupid and irresponsible...because that's what they were

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar just lost her father to COVID-19. They arrived in this country as refugees with little more than bare hands and hope for a better life, the only survivors in their family. After landing at Washington National airport they moved to Minnesota. Worked and studied. In January 2019 they returned to Washington National airport again for her swearing in as a member of the United States Congress.

Immigrants make America great.

I finally succumbed on Saturday and gave myself the full buzz cut. I felt liked I again just walked out of the Navy Recruit Depot barber shop. Damn it’s short! But I’m loving it for the moment and I’m not sure I won’t keep it like this indefinitely. It will certainly save me money.....The only downside is that the young lady who cuts my hair is a drop dead gorgeous sweetheart. Damn I’ll miss her.....
You must have gotten a Marine haircut.
When I went in the Army they took as to the Fort barber for recruits. They shaved our heads so close that the barber's hand was shaking as he bore down on our heads with all of his strength. Guys with long hair got tease unmercifully by cutting the hair in goofy ways such as the mop headed Mohawk which was a Mohawk with hair so long that it was floppy. They hurt the hell out of my head.
One guy in my platoon was in an accident where they had to place a steel plate in his skull. He didn't need one of those virtually bald haircuts. The guy would pass out in formation from the heat in the Summer and his surgically repaired skull. Didn't keep him out of the infantry and getting stationed in combat you know where.

In just 24 hours, Brazil sets a grim new record with almost 35,000 new coronavirus cases

Brazil on Tuesday recorded its highest daily jump in new coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic, with nearly 35,000 registered in 24 hours, the health ministry said.

The country, which has the second-highest number of coronavirus cases and deaths in the world, after the United States, reported 34,918 new cases and 1,282 new deaths in the past 24 hours.

That brought Brazil's total caseload to more than 923,000, and its death toll to 45,241.

Experts say under-testing in the country of 212 million people probably means the real figures are much higher.

The grim new record came as the World Health Organization's top official for the Americas again voiced concern over the situation in Brazil.

"Brazil has 23 percent of all cases and 21 percent of all deaths in our region. And we are not seeing transmission slowing down," Carissa Etienne, director of the Pan American Health Organization, told a news conference.

Brazil has struggled to set a strategy for dealing with the virus.

President Jair Bolsonaro, who has famously compared the virus to a "little flu," has clashed with state and local authorities over their use of stay-at-home measures to contain it.

Navy boot camp wasn’t much different back then....at least as far as the haircuts go. They made it a very painful and humiliating experience (because in 1972 everybody had long hair). A couple of guys thought they were being proactive by getting crewcuts prior to leaving for basic. Bad move. The barbers literally felt cheated and really put it to those guys (And the Company Commander rode them extra hard for the first couple of weeks for “destruction of government property”). I had a huge ‘fro and asked the barber to leave it a little longer (on the advice of a recruit who was half way through boot camp. Silly me). That guy verbally tore me a new asshole, ranting about how I must hate my parents, the USA and God. Then he spun the chair around and ground out a skull deep swath through the middle of my ‘fro, then stood back and asked me how I liked THAT (“you little asshole”). Wisely, I kept my mouth shut and let him finish. In the end, the only real downside was that I ended up having sun burned ears for the first time in years....funny how obsessed we can be about our hair.....

Let's just keep pretending coronavirus isnt here anymore

Berkeley Bowl market had sour cherries, the kind used to make pie. Hard to find and very short season. Most times when I see them in the store I get a big bagful and the next place I happen to go to gets a fresh baked cherry pie. Might make a second and stick in deep freeze for later, even though pitting all those damn cherries is a drag.

Then realized, I'm not going anywhere.

Can't quite see going around the neighborhood leaving slices of cherry pie on everyone's porch.
