Berkeley Bowl market had sour cherries, the kind used to make pie. Hard to find and very short season. Most times when I see them in the store I get a big bagful and the next place I happen to go to gets a fresh baked cherry pie. Might make a second and stick in deep freeze for later, even though pitting all those damn cherries is a drag.

Then realized, I'm not going anywhere.

Can't quite see going around the neighborhood leaving slices of cherry pie on everyone's porch.
My cousin lives a few blocks away from Berkeley Bowl!

I have a pie cherry tree in my back and they are starting to turn red. My wife would rather hit Sherri's for a pie than make one herself. Our daughter does get them though and makes pies.

In just 24 hours, Brazil sets a grim new record with almost 35,000 new coronavirus cases

Brazil on Tuesday recorded its highest daily jump in new coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic, with nearly 35,000 registered in 24 hours, the health ministry said.

The country, which has the second-highest number of coronavirus cases and deaths in the world, after the United States, reported 34,918 new cases and 1,282 new deaths in the past 24 hours.

That brought Brazil's total caseload to more than 923,000, and its death toll to 45,241.

Experts say under-testing in the country of 212 million people probably means the real figures are much higher.

The grim new record came as the World Health Organization's top official for the Americas again voiced concern over the situation in Brazil.

"Brazil has 23 percent of all cases and 21 percent of all deaths in our region. And we are not seeing transmission slowing down," Carissa Etienne, director of the Pan American Health Organization, told a news conference.

Brazil has struggled to set a strategy for dealing with the virus.

President Jair Bolsonaro, who has famously compared the virus to a "little flu," has clashed with state and local authorities over their use of stay-at-home measures to contain it.

The president of Brazil is following Trump's lead in his approach to the Covid-19 virus.

WTF are all these states with rising new covid cases waiting for? It's quite clear that they don't have a handle on this virus at all.

Do they really think this thing is going away by itself?...not exactly news, but our government is inept.

The sickening part is that they allegedley had a plan in place to scale back if spikes started appearing and yet it appears non of these states are doing anything about it. What a fucking mess this president is creating.

Let's just keep pretending coronavirus isnt here anymore

I've come to the conclusion that their are two types of people in this world;

The ones who will believe you when you say the stove is hot and the other's who have to touch it themselves before they will believe you.

Those are our only options???

Sigh....

That's you're safe suit is it?

COVID-19 Weekly Report, June 17, 2020

Check out Demographics and Additional Data links

Oregon as of yesterday... 187 deaths of which 102 from senior care centers. Based on the amount of positives to date = 3% death rate / subtract Senior center deaths = 1.6% death rate.
If you remember Brown held back on testing even though she had inventory for the longest time as the mandate was don't go to the doc or hospital if you have the basic systems. And she knew that they would see an uptick once they implemented phase one with increased testing and tracing.

The other thing in this weekly report is that emergency visits and hospitalization are low even with the increased spike so they comment that it appears the symptoms are not as bad. Read it.

All is good in the hood supposedly. NE Fremont street is lined with restaurants and shops that have been just waiting to open and they are tomorrow. A few of them in fact have added additional seating sections in their parking lot. I assume because they will have to space out the tables in the normal indoor dining. So by adding this extra space they will likely be able to get back to a normal amount of customers.

With the weather getting better, this could get ugly again.

Those would be perfect for your bamboo.

Hint hint.

Not just that, but scientists also warned us well in advance that this spike would likely happen...and no that it's here, they're in denial.

Mom is in central Fla near Orlando and though she voted for Trump and DeSantis, now if given the opportunity, she'd choke both of them.

Of course infections will spike. The whole stay at home thing was to flatten the curve to keep hospitals from overflowing and to make sure we have enough PPE. The hospitals are in good shape and we have enough PPE. Open things up!

Its crazy more dont see this. Totally calculated to happen but in Oregon hospitalizations and er visits are even lower. State said they think people are having mild cases.

Then there are the ones who burn their fingers and still say it's not hot.

In good shape?...Which hospitals are you referring to?
