Several plastic surgeons here in LA are coming down with COVID-19. Not surprising as many of them stay pretty social, as its part of the biz. They are still open, which is kind of dumb tbh and I believe their medspas are too, doing fillers, etc.

They are staying in practice for when they'll have to work exclusively as morticians

The CDC, as of some time in the middle of 2020, tracks "PIC deaths" not coronavirus deaths. PIC stands for pneumonia, influenza, and coronavirus. So, 300,000 deaths aren't coronavirus deaths, they are deaths due to P, I, and C.

It is sensible for the CDC to do this: dead patients are not tested.

They are being conservative by using the terms "coronavirus-like" and "influenza-like".

From day 1, if someone dies and has coronavirus, they are labelled as a coronavirus death, almost regardless of what they actually dies from. Again, this makes sense since assigning cause would require a significant investigation. However, this means that the numbers are overblown.

The CDC site does contain information on PIC deaths, like you said, but only the coronavirus portion of the PIC deaths are included in the stats on Covid-19 deaths: “[N]owhere on the CDC or NCHS sites does it say that CDC is counting all PIC deaths as COVID-19 deaths,” Robert Anderson, chief of the mortality statistics branch at the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics, told us in an email statement. “This is not true. Only the COVID-19 deaths are counted as COVID-19 deaths.”
