Both siderism is the biggest copout in the world. Don't have to take position on anything.

I suppose for an antivaxxer getting people vaccinated and mocking the Holocaust are equivalent but on Planet Earth they really aren't.

“Both-siderism” LOL.

Is that what you call people you can’t guilt trip, manipulate or strong arm into aiding and abetting your criminals of choice?

Try “no-siderism”

I do agree the two party system is a straitjacket. Parliamentary systems with proportional representation are more democratic. Throw in undemocratic Senate, filibuster, voting restrictions and yes you can question democracy. But some are trying to make it better while others want more restrictions. And vaccines prevent Covid infection.

I think we need to pay our govt officials just like they pay soldiers in the military and give them the same perks as a soldier.....you'd see a huge flock of Senators and Congressman fleeing to the private sector in a split second..hit them in the pocketbook...I also think every party should be givien the exact same amount of campaign money from the start and even the field...and every candidate should get equal time in the debates whether they are Green Party, Constitutional Party, Independent, Libertarian, etc.....we actually have many parties but have let money have the monopoly on the competition. Term limits, low pay, equal air time....stop catering to Dems and Republicans like they're some privileged class After Jan 6th I question if we even need an executive branch anymore...replace a presidency with a council representing all parties on the ballot....govt by commitee

I think cutting the pay of congress would encourage more corruption.

For that reason I think they should be paid at least as well as doctors and lawyers.

I think it's already corrupted to the core in many ways....money is government...having more money doesn't make people more or less honest...they are what they are so raise the bar for vetting elected officials and also do what most countries do and have a 6 week campaign, debate and election instead of this year and a half fiasco we currently use that burns people out and has them talking more than working...get elected, go to work...actually be a public servant

Yeah, I completely agree with all of that. Publicly funded elections are the way to go, for sure. And the election cycle is a dirty joke.

It just seems like we'd want the best people in congress. You usually get the best people by first upping the salary.

I think that's true in the private sector but you'll often find better people in public service whether it's doctors without borders or habitat for humanity...the culture of government work shouldn't be the culture of those who can afford to play the game but those who want to do public service ...term limits would keep them from being lifetime Senators, etc.....you do the public service..step aside after 4 years and go to the private sector to get paid. I did my 4 years in the navy..got out and built my nest egg

But doesn't that encourage public servants to pander to corporations in the hopes of a cushy private sector job?

it's ok to have goals for after work, etc...but you have to set up govt jobs like military security clearances...there are severe repercussions to tampering with them...what I'm talking about requires a new rule book and vetting is part of that...it's not happening in my lifetime but I can suggest the concepts to a grandchild...plant the seed of change...I'll be fishing in the meantime

This is an intriguing concept.

Watch out, @riverman! Do you know Lenin wrote in What Is To Be Done? that salary of top government officials should be no more than that of a skilled worker? And in Cuba (contrary to what you might have heard they have elections) every candidate gets equal amount of public funding with no other fundraising allowed?

When you went into the navy, were you at that time wise enough to be a good, effective US senator?
Seems like we'd end up being governed by 19-year-olds, which might not be a recipe for success.
I'm not arguing the current system is working any better than that, though.

I'd have fixed it all and rounded up all the pirates...made them cabinet members....nah...not 19 year olds...more like mid twenties or 30s with degrees in political science...y'know...people who know things like geography! Nobody wants me in government....it's a different level of public service...building a house doesn't qualify you for much other than building a house...my point is term limits people won't be in govt for 50 years and they can go make the nest egg....I don't think people running for office should be old enough for retirement benefits...let's set that parameter.

Wait....I think I could've done better than Marjorie Taylor Green or Matt Gaetz at the age of 12

Yea the police holding the doors open for them looked real frightened.
The problem is that some police were in on it, at least in the beginning.

Which resulted in a mob scouring the capital with restraints for members of congress...

That's a big fucking problem IMO.

Also an uptight person loosing up. However, the main thrust was the correct way of spelling losing is 'L O S I N G' rather than 'L O O S I N G'
Loosen up Lanny! That's the proper way to use that form of the verb.....you'd be hard pressed to find the spelling loosey in any english literature...if it's an accepted spelling its rare...I've only heard it used as slang when people say "loosey goosey" which probably comes from Looney tunes lingo

Et tu, Brute?

Not a guy.
I've heard women refer to each other as guys and that's the only time I've used that expression to include women. Yes, I'm an inclusive gal.

I hear you guys addressed to mixed groups and to women but can't resist poking at Lanny. It means I like him.
I've got a big assed grin all over my ugly face.
