Could also arise from those that got covid and recovered, then got Covid again and spread the new virus.

Yes, you are correct. I lost part of the thread and thought momentarily we were talking about vaccines specifically.
But again, this isn't the virus 'adapting'. This is a mutation finding suitable hosts and reproducing.

If there are a bunch kids on my lawn, and I shoot all the boys, the girls didn't survive because I shot the boys. They didn't adapt to my gun. They didn't become girls to avoid being shot by me. They randomly encountered a situation where the boys got killed and the girls didn't. The girls thrived and went on to reproduce.

I'm thinking eventually, there will be something that attacks the spike proteins produced with the mRNA vaccine

I don't know if that particular thing will happen, because as I understand it the spike proteins don't stick around very long in your body - but the more we allow the virus to reproduce, the better chance there will be of a more deadly strain.

Now I see where you're coming from. The girls and boys story did it for me. Yes, very technically speaking the viruses do not learn. It's more a figure of speech.

Read the article again. PCR is the test they’ve been using since this thing started. They aren’t testing people for delta specifically because that test isn’t accurate enough to do so.

If you’re really interested in knowing if you have the delta variant, you may want try out the polymerase chain reaction testing platforms, which looks at the genetic variations within the virus to determine its strains.
Polymerase chain reaction = PCR

Exactly - but it is an important technical point, because some people (not saying El Prez) believe that the virus is 'smarter' than the vaccine, and thus vaccination is doomed to failure. It's only doomed to failure if people don't get the vaccine.

For a bit of good news, new infections in the UK are down 50% over the last week, although no one seems to understand why.

Last year around this time cases were in the 200 range if I remember correctly. In May last year People are saying it would fizzle down in the summer. Well we’re in mid summer and yesterday we had over 1000, today over 800. Another shutdown coming?

There's no way we shut down again. People are done with that and can't afford to not work. Besides this is mostly affecting unvaccinated people who have access to the vaccine but won't take it, and were most against shut downs and masks in the first place. So for the rest of us it's hard to justify altering our lives to save people who don't want to be saved. At most we will get a mask mandate and potentially reduced capacity on indoor activities.

When your car breaks down, you take it to a mechanic. When your toilet won't flush, you call a plumber. I don't think many people ask random dude on Facebook if what their plumber said is accurate.

Yet when it comes to a disease, we have a coterie of people who insist, sometimes with dying breath, that doctors and virologists and epidemiologists know less than random dude on Facebook.

I guess because denying clogged toilets isn't a political loyalty test.

And yet there is mounting evidence that the CDC is correct on this one & this doctor is wrong.

The vaccine helps reduce the SYMPTOMS of the virus, but it is not preventing the TRANSMISSION.

Pfizer and BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine is just 39% effective in Israel where the delta variant is the dominant strain, but still provides strong protection against severe illness and hospitalization, according to a new report from the country’s Health Ministry.
Dr. Paul Offit, who advises the FDA on Covid vaccines, said while the vaccines still provide excellent protection against severe disease and death, they may not work as well against mild cases or spreading the disease to others.
Pfizer said earlier this month it is starting to see waning immunity from its two-dose vaccine, and now plans to seek authorization from the Food and Drug Administration for a booster dose. However, federal officials say fully vaccinated Americans do not need additional shots at this time.

Data released by the Health Ministry last week suggested that people vaccinated in January have just 16% protection against infection now, while in those vaccinated in April, the effectiveness was at 75%

Lamar Jackson, Qb of the ravens, has tested positive. He also tested positive last fall during the season

Yet, 90-95% of people testing positive or going to the hospital are unvaccinated.

The 6 most vaccinated states are doing fine, while the 6 least vaccinated states are surging.

Get vaccinated people.

Wasting your time. Nobody changing their minds at this point. Just gonna be the triple dosed and unvaxxed.

First of all, you are cherry-picking the single worst number available. The 39% isn't necessarily wrong, but there are lots of other studies with higher numbers. And there are definitely some questions to be answered about this study - which I assume will be answered in due time.

Second, 39% is still a lot better than 0%. The vaccine, even if the 39% is correct, is still preventing a lot of infections.

As far as onward transmission by a vaccinated person who has gotten infected, yes, they can transmit the virus. Although they are of course more likely to transmit it to an unvaccinated person than a vaccinated person.

Unvaccinated Californians 600% More Likely To Get Covid; Younger Residents, Ages 18-29, Driving Surge

That's just Californians, though. They are nothing like us.
