Posting this again because I think it got drown out by the exact divisiveness I mentioned.

I think a lot of contention, not just around here, is between some people that have had a covid case and believe that infection provides equal or better immune responses than they would have if they got the vaccine, and other people saying things like "if you don't get the vaccine you're going to kill me". I know, that is a generalization. There is just a lot of area in between those two positions and it has become pretty divisive. I don't think I've had covid, but I'm not 100% sure. I would have gotten the vaccine either way, but that's just me. Idk, here's a good article I read about it and explains the differences in how some geographic areas are addressing it and specifically the pros/cons of the USA's approach.

e_blazer is exactly right. "Research" isn't a Google search. Google is fine when you want driving directions or information on rooting bay leaf cuttings or where to buy a variety of yarn. Not knocking Google. But it's not scientific research. Van Gundy was also right.

Deliberate intellectual laziness is nothing to brag about, nor will it lend credibility to your opinions.
Wha??? You mean inherent intelligence is not a virtue???? Who knew?? Then I guess I need to get in line with the rest of the “Intelligent” Trump lemmings hurling themselves off a cliff. But THAT would be actually be “intellectual laziness”…….

My biggest problem isn't with people who are confused or unable to understand the science but rather with the ignorant propoganda that those people spout that is politically fueled....if you want to do research don't limit yourself to US political arguments....look at global science....ask New Zealander about the science and realize Biden has no more to do with their life and choice than Tucker Carlson......ask your doctor or surgeon, etc.....or move to N Korea where democrats won't kill you with conspiracy chips....choices ....we have always had an in house propoganda promoter here and probably always will have.

Or you don't understand it, and you are misinterpreting it, and your idea of experts and relevant background is lacking in credibility...
Legitimate epidemiologists are the highest bar of credibility when dealing with an epidemic. They are who I confirm my stances with when it comes to epidemics and pandemics.

The people I'm referring to (like you) do not.

Be grateful you don’t have “underlying” conditions. You’d almost certainly think differently if you did. And hope that you don’t develop a life threatening medical issue, because if you do, you are likely shit out of luck. How many more people have to die due to Covid related ignorance and recalcitrance??? I personally don’t need to do my “research” to know a vaccine will protect me. It’s simple common sense. Nothing more, nothing less. Politics has absolutely nothing to do with it.

@illmatic99 ???

Nothing, or everything. Definitely one of those two.

Accusing people of “trying to kill you” because they are hesitant about a new treatment is pretty over the top. It’s honestly these types of exaggerated, hyperbolic claims that are being used to justify treating law abiding, tax paying citizens like a second class simply because of a choice to not take a covid shot. It’s crazy that you have to accuse someone of attempted murder in order to make your demands seem legitimate.
Read the data or read what scientists are telling you.

Doing research does not mean trading Facebook posts. You can go to FDA site, review vaccine New Drug Application, look through hundreds of pages of raw data, compare protocol and clinical study report. I have written those damn things, I know what is in them. And when people say they are "doing the research" on vaccine that isn't what they mean. Antivax web sites also aren't research.

Exactly, and I would add that most of us aren't even qualified to read the research, much less write it. Reading a scientific paper is not the same as reading a newspaper, they aren't written for 8th graders. Randomly picking up one or two papers in a field you are completely unfamiliar with is likely to result in misunderstandings. Picking up one or two that have been pre-selected for you by people with an ax to grind is likely to result in a failure to understand context.

Hogwash. You don't need to be an expert to understand the statistics presented in scientific papers. I've worked in software for seven years but I don't know how to program.

I’m not big into the whole “let’s see how many posts vs likes” a poster has but I think it’s safe to say if you look at Maris’ you can conclude that his 27000 posts are batshit

At least bats are real. Even if they give you Covid.

Not sure how your inability to program implies an ability to read scientific papers?

What part of “underlying conditions” has anything whatsofuckingever to do with politics???? We’re dealing with our own personal realities dude. Unvaccinated idiots are a danger to people like me and Lanny. Why should the stupid have more “rights” and “freedoms” than those with health issues?? My take on the entire COVID clusterfuck has absolutely NOTHING to do with politics and everything to do with the dangers it presents to me personally. And the callous disregard antivaxers (and anti maskers) have for folks like me releases me from any kind of understanding, kindness or respect for those people, because turnabout IS fair play. I can only conclude that the fervor with which too many people here argue against vaccinations is based on the insecurity and intrinsic doubt they have in the strength and validity of their arguments. Jeez, talk about enough straw men to populate an entire city……..and by the way, just in case you (or anyone else) want to build yet another straw man, my own underlying conditions are NOT a result of my lifestyle, so please don’t even try to go there…..

And you wouldn't understand a program if you tried to read it.

Thanks for proving the point.
