Why it does not kill people in poorly vaccinated Africa?
I don't see logic here and it keeps me sceptical.
Where did you get this information, it is absolutely wrong.
The US has more than 70% of people that got at least 1 vaccine doze, vs 31% in South Africa, yet South Africa has a 3.0% CFR (case fatality rate) vs. 1.6% for the US. What you are saying is, quite frankly, categorically wrong. (this data comes from https://ourworldindata.org - an Oxford university data repository).
and you realize how that variant came to be? hey....if you think Africa is safe from the virus we disagree....during covid most of africa has been pretty tourist free as well and locked down ...Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, and many many other countries there had massive lockdowns and deaths from covid as well as people stubbornly refusing public safety recommendation in the countryside....in the cities they had to follow the same guidlines as here to go to indoor markets, hotels, etc.......also the doctors available per capita in africa is very small....hospitals are far from each other and they lack medical supplies....africa has always had endemics and virus issues from ebola to covid......and many many people have died there from lack of medical services....China didn't report most of the covid deaths that happened there either. Infrastructure in african records keeping is known to also be a mess most places....Uganda is probably one of the most modernized other than Israel or Egypt...5.5 million global deaths that have been recorded by hospitals and a quarter million deaths in Africa.....90k in S Africa alone which is the size of a state in the US.....most rural or ghetto area deaths are not added to these statistics because they don't get autopsies of those folks...they just bury them or cremate themAbout Omicron: "The rise in deaths over the period was small and in the last week marginal."
I might be wrong, I'm talking about Omi wave. I don't know if it is what you refering to. Writing from my phone, so it's not easy now to check.

Tanzania was the last country in africa to not require vaccinations to enter the country so they had a huge influx of tourists from europe and russia who wanted to escape the risk at home...like I said...Tanzanians don't trek the globe much for the most part and rarely travel outide maybe Kenya or Uganda .....also as I mentioned...there are not hospital records in the areas where the Masai or tribal villagers are or most of poor urban or rural africa...when someone dies they bury them or cremate them...does'nt make the covid list.....that's happening all over the world...we only have modern western hospital records for most fatalities to go by. Old folks homes and nursing homes in the states falsified death records to keep in business in states like Nebraska....it's rumored most of the deaths in those places were listed as natural causes but were actually covid deaths...anyway.... I recommend you get the vax and the booster...it may save your lifeMy friends visited Tanzania Oct 2020 and they didn't see it. But maybe you have better info.
Yes, thanks for pointing that out. That's exactly why I clarified the numbers. This seems like the anecdotal information you continually say we shouldn't use to make assumptions. This isn't intended to be a gotcha post or anything, but there has to be some actual data coming in about the tests in regard to the omicron variant. I've heard of a few false negatives over the past couple weeks and was skeptical enough that I went and got a PCR test when I had been exposed.
You know that it's unvaccinated people that are dying now from this right. They are the ones jamming up the emergency rooms right? Vaccinated bolstered people are getting it....BUT ARE NOT DYING OR EVEN HAVING SYMPTOMS. You know this right?
Please tell me you know this.
Come on. You can't be saying that your anecdotal evidence is better than others anecdotal evidence? That's just silly.Yes, thanks for pointing that out. That's exactly why I clarified the numbers.
It's 20-25 tests, so for sure, a small sample size, but it is certainly more than the 1 you typically see me calling out. And it's currently 100%.
Here is some current data
https://www.nytimes.com/article/at-home-covid-tests-accuracy.html
My doctors and nurses say that in Eugene's hospitals the deaths are overwhelmingly unvaccinated people plus the demographics you mentioned. Also Oregon has a higher than normal percentage of people who opted to get vaccinated than other places...it's also notable that some of the people who died from covid were dying already and covid just sped it up...it's wrong that just elderly and infirm people are dying from it though...there are many, many younger or middle aged people dying from not accepting vaccinations. Lane County as of today has had 383 deaths and 33K casesMy best friends wife has been a Covid nurse at one of Oregon's largest hospital since DAY ONE. Who's dying from it? People with chronic disease, obesity, and the elderly.
because actually if you follow the new variants path in S Africa these practices will expediate the death of the virus in a couple months when spring arrives...that's the target and staying a safe as possible until then will keep a new variant from starting a new wave....if fewer people are dying great...why not get to where no people are dying regardless of their disabilities or immune system ability. We can't separate age groups in public and say.....if you're 15-25 you can forget safety precautions because you probably won't die.....you might unknowingly carry that virus to a child who doesn't have a strong immune system and ruin their life without knowing it.....better safe than sorry.....we screwed up the first shot at capping this thing...let's not screw up the second opportunity to get everyone safe and back to normal again.Johns Hopkins professor slams elite colleges for 'anti-scientific and cruel' COVID policies that subject students to 10 days of isolation, OUTDOOR mask mandates and weekly PCR testing - despite death rate for their age group being just 0.001%

Over the last six months, Makary wrote, the risk of a person 15 to 24 dying of COVID was 0.001 percent - and those who did die were unvaccinated with a comorbidity.
Despite the staggering low risk of death, some colleges continue to require students who test positive to remain isolated for 10 days - even after the CDC cut the isolation period in half. Others have both indoor and outdoor mask mandates, and impose weekly testing despite the national shortage of test kits.
'At these institutions of higher learning and thousands more, science is supposedly held in the highest esteem. So where is the scientific support for masking outdoors? Where is the scientific support for constantly testing fully vaccinated young people? Where is the support for the confinement of asymptomatic, young people who test positive for a virus to which they are already immune on a campus of other immune people?' Markay wrote.
'The data simply do not justify any of it.'
I'm saying take it for what it is. The same as I say in response to others. I've posted my personal experience as well as data. What else are you looking for?Come on. You can't be saying that your anecdotal evidence is better than others anecdotal evidence? That's just silly.
Thanks for the link.
So 70% of the population? My best friends wife has been a Covid nurse at one of Oregon's largest hospital since DAY ONE. Who's dying from it? People with chronic disease, obesity, and the elderly.
You posted the data that I was asking about (even if it's behind a paywall), and I thanked you. We're good.I'm saying take it for what it is. The same as I say in response to others. I've posted my personal experience as well as data. What else are you looking for?
This is the US. We're discussing people refusing vaccines in the US. And even in the US, minorities avoiding the vaccines are understood, to a point. The hostility is aimed at people who should know better, but don't. Generally white people. People who are perpetuating misinformation and taking our attention away from helping those very same US minorities as well as the other countries you speak of.Thanks for normal responses. There is one thing you may not understand as good as Europeans (and most probably Africans).
In Europe, country with highest vacc % is Iceland. They are small, but thing is, that they trust the government. On the other side there are countries, that escaped from communism just few decades from now and people still remember it. They don't trust their governments and rightfully so. And there is this case of South Africa, that still can see Apartheid just round the corner.
Those people, that are concerned their freedom will be taken away again after just 30 years are not "dumb fucks". They got every reason to stand their ground.
That is something someone spending his live is sunny California won't probably get under consideration.
30 years since half of Europe went free from CCCP and almost same from Apartheid.
Consider that. Good day guys.

actually there are many posters in these conversations that are outside the US....that's a common misconception around here.....we have English French, Aussie and Kiwi members as well as Serbs and Croatians, Germans etc........hence the topic is "global" pandemic.....many countries outside the US got the first vaccines much later than we did only we were throwing them away because so many people were not getting them early on. Now it's available to most countries I believeThis is the US. We're discussing people refusing vaccines in the US. And even in the US, minorities avoiding the vaccines are understood, to a point. But if we can't get our own house in order, why would those countries listen to us?
So yes, the people who are preventing that are dumb fucks. Abso-fucking-lutely.
Of course you're correct. I'm just saying what people here are referring to are those in the US who are wasting the great opportunity we have, and helping to exasperate the situation worldwide.actually there are many posters in these conversations that are outside the US....that's a common misconception around here.....we have English French, Aussie and Kiwi members as well as Serbs and Croatians, Germans etc........hence the topic is "global" pandemic.....many countries outside the US got the first vaccines much later than we did only we were throwing them away because so many people were not getting them early on.
