How does that make them authorities on biology, virology, or epidemiology? Those are the professions who's opinions I'd be interested in....

China already knows where it originated from. There is no need for authorities on biology, virology, or epidemiology in my opinion if you can gather intelligence on their internal discussions.

It would be interesting to read about. But China was literally sanitizing airport runways, so...

I'm not sure I trust their internal dialogue either.

Why do the righties care so much if it originated in a wet market or leaked from a bio-lab? I don't get it.

Same here...China itself is hurting from covid, so regardless of where/how it originated, I can't see why China would intentionally allow it to harm their country or the rest of the world.

I'm sure one reason is because they want to know if the US funded it. And if so they want to show why the US should stop funding STEM and other R&D which could make life better for the poor.

Maybe he's therein thin out their population?

That'll be happening regardless of what he does.
They are more concerned about work force age as their demographics are the worst in the world. Communist regimes like Mao didn't think twice about killing off millions of all ages. If the senior demo dies off quicker that will help their economy and cost of provisions. Even communist countries worry about cost.

My understanding is that they are already regretting the many years of their "one child per family" policy and are pushing hard for their citizens to start cranking kids out with no restrictions.....and are even using incentives to encourage them.

Yup, in 2022 China's population supposedly dropped 850,000...that's the first drop in 60 years.

There is more than one reason for that to happen but I just wonder how many of that drop were due to unreported covid deaths?...we'll likely never know the answer for sure.

I believe that's true as need to build up their work force & military. When it comes to old dudes like me Im just someone they have to feed or deal with.

They've also over counted their sub 40 year old population by about 100 million since they were born...

Get ready for more Chinese deaths per year.

LIES! ALL LIES BY CHINESE CATS!

That's where SARS came from, IIRC. But that was back when investigators could go walk around wet markets and buy samples to test and track.

Unfortunately Xi was so terrified of COVID-19 that he shut down all of the wet markets and destroyed a lot of the trail.

According to experts, genetically, COVID-19 appears to have evolved naturally. There are no signatures of genetic modification.

New data links Covid-19’s origins to raccoon dogs at Wuhan market

Newly released genetic data gathered from a live food market in Wuhan has linked Covid-19 with raccoon dogs, adding weight to the theory that infected animals sold at the site started the coronavirus pandemic, researchers involved in the work say.

Swabs collected from stalls at the Huanan seafood market in the two months after it was shut down on 1 January 2020 were previously found to contain both Covid and human DNA. When the findings were published last year, Chinese researchers stated that the samples contained no animal DNA.

That conclusion has now been overturned by an international team of scientists. Their analysis of gene sequences posted by the Chinese team to the scientific database Gisaid found that some of the Covid-positive samples were rich in DNA from raccoon dogs. Traces of DNA belonging to other mammals, including civets, were also present in Covid-positive samples.

The discovery does not prove that raccoon dogs or other animals infected with Covid triggered the pandemic, but scientists presenting the work to an expert group at the World Health Organization on Tuesday believe it makes that more likely.

“The data does point even further to a market origin,” Prof Kristian Andersen, an evolutionary biologist at Scripps Research in La Jolla, California, told Science magazine. Andersen attended a meeting of the WHO’s scientific advisory group for the origins of novel pathogens and is working on the data.

As someone who got long COVID after getting COVID from the original strain back in January of 2020 (yay for the company I work for having a Wuhan office who happened to visit early in January), you DO NOT WANT long COVID. I couldn't walk all the way around the block without feeling like my heart was going explode. I still can't do even 25% what I used to be able to. My thinking was muddled and disorganized for years after, only now getting back to a reasonable level. I was suicidally depressed, a hoarder with thousands of dollars in debt because nearly every aspect of my body and mind as I just tried to exist in my own fucking apartment were compromised to a level I'd only seen in my great grandparents just before they died of Alzheimer's. I couldn't cook, I couldn't wash dishes, I couldn't take out the garbage. I lived alone like some 90-year old hoarder. I was convinced I had months to live at best. I was ready to die.

It got better (moving to a new apartment helped) but for the fucking love of god don't risk it. Don't get COVID. Don't risk that you'll experience hell. If you see people out in the wild still wearing N95's and staying away from people, be understanding: it's possible that they got long COVID once, or are aware of how debilitating it can be.

Sorry to hear this. It sounds like you went through hell. This is why I am scared to catch covid. I know the odds are low of it becoming long covid. But for me, any chance is enough for me to always wear an N95 mask, and keep contact with other humans to a minimum when I go out and about.

I am autistic and recovering from chronic burnout. In early 2019 while dealing with health issues, I lost my abilities for nearly 4 years, as well as my sense of smell, taste, my ability to communicate properly. My sense of touch was off, water didn't feel right anymore. My equilibrium was off so badly I had to walk everywhere slowly for fear of walking into a door jam. I had the worse feeling in my head, the equilibrium problem was so bad sitting in a chair, I could feel every movement of my body, inside my head. I couldn't tell how hot my food was and burned my mouth too many times. I had the short term memory of a turnip. Every facet of my life was impaired. I had days when I couldn't do my chores or cook my meals. It was a living hell I didn't think I was every going to recover from.

I am mostly recovered now. After living through what I went through. I have nothing but fear of ever catching long covid and going through anything similar ever again.
