Annnnnnnd?
Are they doing something different with your treatment because of a positive test? Thats what I was basically asking?
nah they just told me to take it easy and drink liquids.

The new strain is more focused in the head than the chest/lungs so I don’t think they are particularly worried.

I do need another booster tho, I think it’s almost been two years

Man, take care. Hope you get over it. Yeah I was just wondering if they still isolate people. Still can’t believe we as a society went thru that whole thing. Still blows my mind. Hope you get better soon.

I tested positive for covid for the first time

I just started my vacations yesterday too smh

I was wondering if there were others out there who hadn't caught covid yet. Obviously that number is slowly dwindling.

And on your vacation. Covid is clearly a stone cold bitch.

Get better soon.

Just got nailed by a Yellow Jacket nest out of the ground near garden. I have probably 15 stings on both legs arms and neck.
Jackets must sting more than once as a few a close together. Glad Im not allergic but you know you've been stung.

Same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago...at first I thought it might be pine needles sticking me but when I finally looked down there were over a dozen ground hornets popping my ankle.

Hurt like hell for 3-4 hours.

How do you guys deal with those things? I got hit with some last week.

Last time I ended up throwing a screen over the hole at night and dumping dish soap down it and running the hose on it for a while.

Seemed to work when sprays and other things didn't.

Good idea....We usually have a couple of those yellow traps and they do work some. I spray nest I find find under soffits.

I have a garden with bees and waps but we peacefully coexist.
When I'm getting stung by ground hornets when mowing or trimming shrubs it's time for them to go.

The last ground hornets stung my daughters on 3 separate occasions over a 2 week period, jumping on the trampoline, mowing the yard and just walking by on the sidewalk.

This current nest burrowed in under the step of my shed and they freak out when I open the door. Didn't sting me when I was getting the tools, but got me outside when I was trimming a bush.

I have no problem with them unless they are being aggressive. Aggressive ones gotta go.

We experimented with different baits to use with the yellow traps. Best bait by far was cheap beer.

This year, we are dealing with bald faced hornets. They are very aggressive.

I just got my first bee sting ever last week. In my kitchen, I stepped on a bee. HOLY SHIT I am a baby…..I was crying and wining….. my wife was totally laughing at me and couldn’t believe it was my first! Shit hurt FAMS!

I have been dealing with very pesky ants.
Lucia's food is floor level. I moved it from place to place trying to clear out ants. A neighbor recommended UV bug zapper. Worked briefly but they came back and brought their friends.
Then my kitchen counters.

Did an internet search. Several recommendations for a mix of vinegar, baking soda and dish soap. Not toxic to people or cats. Both vinegar and the salt formed by vinegar bicarbonate reaction kill ants and soap helps it stick to them.

Been working. I spray every evening.

Peppermint repels ants. Pulled a bunch from garden and rubbed on everything.

If they want to live under the house I don't care, just stay there.

Just get some wasp/hornet spray...it will shoot about a 10 foot stream....throw something at the area where they are coming outta the ground and spray the hell out of 'em as they emerge.

...they die almost right away...done deal.

We've been dealing with a similar ant problem. Have to be very careful where we feed the cats and remember not even to leave their dishes out when they're done. Wife has been spraying something natural and organic that's been working but they did track into our garbage a while back and there was a TON. Was not a great thing to wake up to.

Try the vinegar. Mix two cups white vinegar and two tablespoons each baking soda and dish soap. Use a large container because it will bubble up. When bubbling stops, put in spray bottle. Spray generously around food sources, whet you see ants, in cracks.

Another thing you might try (if that stops working) is sprinkling food grade diatomaceous earth around the cat food. Kills anything with an exoskeleton that walks through it.

Mammals wouldn't eat it any more than they'd eat dirt, but it wouldn't hurt them if they did.

Everything I read said not to use diatomaceous earth around cats. Anything that gets on their paws ends up in their mouth. And Lucia is a very sick cat.

Spray is working. Knock wood.

Spray we have is working too.

Honestly, it didn't get bad until we had a few bushes that were against the house pulled out. Not sure if that's a coincidence.

I'm glad it's working!

Not trying to convince you to use it, I just find the stuff interesting. I wouldn't want you to using something you don't feel confident in using.

Just a bit more about Diatomaceous Earth. It's just really small "sharp" dirt (ancient shells, etc). As long as you use food grade or animal safe it should be perfectly fine. The stuff they use on crops is industrial and may have contaminants, so wouldn't be recommended.

They actually use the food grade (or animal safe) in animal feed. It's totally safe for everything except some reptiles and any insect with an exoskeleton.

https://www.dicalite.com/2017/10/three-ways-to-use-industrial-minerals-on-the-farm/

The way it works is that it's so small and sharp that it sticks to them and cuts through their exoskeleton and dehydrates them. There is no mechanism for this to cause damage to mammals, aside from possibly breathing the industrial kind.

Again, I just find it interesting. I'm glad you found a solution that is working!

All good man. I have enough dirt around my place that I'd like cleaned up. I don't need to willing put more out haha

Yeah, really best used outside. Like if you have an infestation on a tree or bush. Just Coat it with this white dust and any bugs will die.

Then it rinses away with water.

Just interesting stuff.

With ants you're probably best using something they'll take take back to the nest and kill the whole thing.

After all this discussion, I read an article in current issue of Discover:

Do Insects Have Feelings and Consciousness?

Working at the local Ace, we have been selling an incredible amount of wasp traps, sprays, etc, etc, lately. It goes out the door as fast as we stock it. Yellow jackets are apparently the worst they've been in years. One old timer came in a bought a bag of granulated Sevin (lawn and garden pest control). He said that it works best for the ground nests. Find the hole and pour Sevin into it (tamp it if you can) and they're pretty well done for (plus it acts on other pests also). But we're selling a noticeable amount of the diatomaceous earth also Earlier in the summer we were making bank on ant control products but that seems to have slacked off. I've always had the best luck with Terro, but with dogs around, I try to use vinegar and water as much as is reasonable. But there are several new types of natural pest control products out on the market now too. We just haven't gotten any feedback (good, bad or indifferent) about it yet.....

What I do, I catch the ants, and then set them free again, after using some fine tools and magnification to paint on their thorax "I'm a lazy motherfucker".
This causes the other ants to ostracize them, because there's no greater sin in the ant world, and they fall into depression and starve themselves.

barfo

Borax is toxic to ants and can be used to kill them. When ants ingest borax, it disrupts their digestive systems and eventually causes death. Ants should die within 24-48 hours.
Here are some ways to use borax to kill ants:
  • Mix borax powder with confectioner's sugar and sprinkle it around your yard.
  • Mix borax powder with warm honey and drizzle the mixture where ants will find it.
  • Mix 1/2 cup sugar, 1 1/2 Tbsp borax, and 1.5 C warm water. Soak cotton balls in the mixture and place them where you usually see ants.
  • Mix 1/2 cup sugar, 2 level teaspoons of borax, and 350ml (12 ounces) of water into a glass jar or plastic bottle.
  • Mix one teaspoon of peanut butter and two teaspoons of borax. Blend the ingredients thoroughly and place in bottle caps.
Borax is low toxicity to humans and pets, especially in the tiny amounts used for ant control. However, if smaller pets ingest a large quantity of borax, it could make them sick.
