Why do you have to go and shit on my dream? It's gonna happen!

Because at one time it was my dream too, but you can only be tricked so many time before you just see everything as an elaborate con job.

I think we all realize it's never going to happen, but it's fun to talk about.

This.

The thought is exciting. But, baseball-to-Portland has been rumored for years. The A's leaving Oakland has been rumored for years.

Portland is GREAT for MLB.

But not in the sense that we're getting a team. We're a big enough city with only one major sports franchise (okay, soccer fans, I didn't forget you, but let's be honest, MLS is still growing, and at a nice pace - I'm not hating, as I like the Timbers, too). We're a city that could stand to have another major sports franchise, so it makes flirting with us, fake as it is, look a little bit legit, and maybe enough to scare the City of Oakland to step up (not quite to the same degree as Seattle in the Kings' fiasco, but in a similar manner).

That being said, I know a ton of people that would step up and buy season tickets if we were to get a team. I am sure we'd be a hot ticket in town for the first 2-3 seasons. Beyond that, I'm curious how well a team would do here in Portland, financially.

The A's are a good team, i'm sure they would do well. Look at Okie town and the Blunder, they got blessed with a good team after only one year.

It would be sad if a storied team like the A's left Oakland, but it would sure rekindle a rivalry with Seattle that we lost with the Sonics.

Philadelphia
Kansas City
Oakland

Every once in a while the Athletics feel the need to move.

I was more referring to the attendance than the quality if team. I think they'll be a hot ticket initially, but I could see them not being a huge long-term draw here. If other believed they would be, we'd have a team by now.

They will end up in San Jose or Santa Clara.

as far as i know, the giants arent budging on the south bay territorial rights the A's acquiesced to them in the 90s, so 2015 might be make or break time, if they can figure something out and stay, cool, but if not, time to move on

Can Seattle keep a team out of Portland though?

giants own the rights to south bay specifically for relocation, i doubt the mariners own portlands relocation rights rights, or it would have already been brought up

if a team was brought to portland the mariners would likely have a case for a small bribe as it were for relinquishing their TV rights in the area, much like peter angelos was paid off in order to share the mid east market (baltimore) when the nationals moved to DC. a much stronger case could be made that seattle is much farther away though, and likely they would get a pittance if anything imo

I used to really like baseball when I was in high school, and then I just stopped. I loved playoff baseball though. So much fun to watch compared to the regular season.

Somehow Paul Allen will get in the way of this and prevent it from happening.

So we are now rumored to get the A's and the Raiders. Sucks for Oakland.

I thought it was just because we had their favorite son, Lillard, that the other teams wanted to move here to be closer to him.....

Gramps...

No but I bet Paul Allen could.

how?

it wouldn't compete with his season, he doesn't own a baseball team AND doesn't really have any say in the matter.

Wait, is this another one of your Lamar Odom type posts?

If you look at viewership ratings for baseball, Portland is really high on the list. Besides, it would be a perfect game for this town. The pace is casual, laid back, what's on the field matches what's off of it (lots of whiteys with just a bit of hispanic flavoring), our summer weather is great and it's light really late.

Iirc this is the site endorsed by Hales:
