COVID & the NBA

I am starting to lose respect for the the commish of the NBA and any sport at this moment as this virus is destroying the season and the leagues seem to care more about the all mighty buck then people.

Screw Adam Silver and the NBA owners who have prolly told this loser make sure to keep the league open as long as possible so we do not lose as much money. I would almost bet money this convo has happened between the owners and the league but makes we wonder what the players reps are doing to protect them so maybe they are at fault too. All i know is this NBA season has been a giant cluster F*** and at this point as much as I would be sad not to see anymore Blazer games it might be time to consider shutting it down for a break or even the year at this point.

But the Almighty buck affects people. If everything shut down, lots of people suffer. I think we should press on but if they called off the season altogether, as a Blazers fan, I'd be fine with that. It's not like 2020 where I thought we had unfinished business and the season was reaching a climax.

Ahh ohh slowly the nba is waving the white flag. Next it’s going to be no quarantining for asymptomatic positive cases. Then after that nobody is going to even test anymore

Maybe things are looking up? From ESPNInsider article on teams most AFFECTED/EFFECTED by Covid19......

Interesting thing.....says Cleveland has been impacted the most. Missing the most minutes and WARP. While The Jazz and Pels the least. Jazz haven't a a player miss ONE game.

https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/in...it-hardest-covid-numbers-league-omicron-spike

The article says that it's limited to Covid impacts only:

"Note: Let's quickly explain the methodology here. Based on games players have missed either in protocols or due to subsequent reconditioning through Sunday, "minutes lost" is calculated using players' minutes per game multiplied by games missed. Wins above replacement player lost (WARP lost) is calculated using players' per-game rating in my player metric multiplied by games missed. One caveat: Players already sidelined by injury, such as Orlando Magic guard Markelle Fultz, don't count as lost if they are in the protocols because they would be unavailable either way."

It would be interesting to see some sort of analysis that includes time missed by injured players. The injuries to Dame and CJ have probably had more impact on the Blazers' record than Covid.

Teams across the league have lost their TV directors and producers and guys like me for weeks including Blazers Broadcasting. And officially starting tomorrow we will no longer be traveling with the team to cover games. Until further notice we will be working back at the Moda Center broadcasting the games. Like last year, going to be a shit show.

I'm just really glad that they haven't cut any games from the schedule so your still getting paid. Hoping it stays that way. Sorry to hear about your colleagues. I think we're all seeing it.

My rate on the road is a lot more, so I will lose a ton of money because of this, but you’re right, at least I’m working.

Fuck man, that's a good attitude but that is shitty. Those rich assholes should pay you like you're traveling, they're saving the money from not moving you around (that's not a TheHCP is fat joke I don't engage in that sort of shit). They still get to broadcast the game and besides being in a different place every other night, the function of your job specifically doesn't change at all.

Do you guys usually have your own camera operators on the road or do teams just always share the same video feeds? If you do have coworkers that do that are they just completely out of work for half of their games now?

Not traveling in this shit has got to be safer too...that's a perk. Sorry you lost some income ...lots of people have but at least it's not spent in the hospital.

Well the league already adapted the 10 day wait down to 5……. I have a weird feeling were about to start seeing less cases right? Since almost half the league has already got it. Wish I knew more about the numbers and odds of somebody fully vaccinated and boosted getting it a 2nd time.

So looks like there will be no more players/coaches/staff out on health and safety protocols.

Hopefully Norm is back Saturday. I haven't seen anything on him being symptomatic .

Great news. Eventually I don’t think anybody is going to care if your positive with Covid as long as your not showing symptoms.

There seems to be a sense everybody is over this shit. Just get your shots and move on
