OT COVID19: Who to Blame?

those wet markets are disgusting and dangerous. They should be outlawed but greed and ignorance keep them going

however, before we get too self-righteous about it, everybody should have to tour a couple of slaughter-houses in America. Those places are disgusting too and with essentially no oversight by the USDA, the hygiene and diligence levels are terrible. The difference of course is that street vendors don't set up their stands on the floors of those slaughter-houses, and there is at least some regulations restricting the sales of meats in stores

as far as the CDC, from everything I've read their budget has remained relatively flat when inflation is factored. However, that's because of congress since Trump has always tried to cut the CDC budget. He also essentially gutted the pandemic response team in Homeland Security. More specifically, it was John Bolton, so since the buck never stops on trump's desk, unless he can pocket it of course, there's a little bit of deniability.

My understanding (but who I can believe anything these days) is that the Democrats are blocking “blanket”, one time payments to every adult because it’s a very short term and foolish fix. They want to beef up unemployment benefits for the people who have actually been put out of work. In other words, a steady income of some type to help them get through the crisis, not a one time check that won’t even stretch into next week. Helping those that need it, not just buying votes in an election year. I’ll be honest, I’d love it if my wife and I got a check, but we are some of the fortunate ones who don’t actually need it. Handing money out to every adult, regardless of how the virus has affected their lives is stupidity on a grand scale (and so very American). Let’s focus on those who absolutely need the assistance. People are so eager to get themselves “free” money that they ignore common sense. The Democrats are actually trying to make a reasoned response (as much as these incompetent fools are capable of anyway) and their message gets drowned out by personal greed.....

Good points, it all comes down to good management and targeted needs. I still haven't seen what the criteria is for receiving the money?

Over 21 and breathing......................??
I would like to see more large corporations stepping up with community assistance. I realize there are some doing it now but, imo, its their obligation to the community, to come through.
Amazon should cut existing customers slack nc) on certain essentials. High Tech companies should be help with lap tops for kids, etc.

Dave for President!

Why? What's the value to any of us in placing blame?

Thank you, I said the same thing a few days ago but it wasn't received very well.

The issue to me with the “hold up” is if they hold up too long with all this the people who really, really need it wont get it in a timely manner while they screw around with vetting. Dont super care if I get a check from them or not, but they need to act quickly and quit with the crap, quit trying to sneak crap into it for corporations, and just do it at some point.

The more important thing is to make sure that funds go to the appropriate people not just send out some money to some. If it takes a week or two longer to ensure that the funds are being appropriately distributed then that's what should be done. The moscow mitch bill has some flaws that should be dealt with and not just blindly approved as that can cause even more harm. Bottom line, get it right the first time.

See I disagree, bottom line to me, is people who need help now not in a month get it, not after they get it right, and then send the checks... I know the bill as drafted had a lot of crap attached but I addressed that.

I'm working but not making as much money as I normally do. Despite the governor letting us stay open the public certainly doesn't think we are essential.....Hey, after we stand in line to get tp let's take our car to the shop and get that dent fixed before the zombies hit.

Not a priority.

By the way. Corporate bailouts need not happen. My wife and I can live without a paycheck for about a year.

Let movie theaters and airlines be sold to the highest bidder if they are broke already. Not my problem. AMC is owned by some Chinese company anyway. F them.

Wait for the riots when some luxury cars get damaged.

This whole episode has me convinced we should get some kind of universal basic income for US citizens.

Caveats:
no basic income for illegals
has to discourage the use of having many kids to get more income
eliminate welfare programs

Maybe have a set dollar figure and divide it by the number of citizens over 18. Encourage a smaller population that way.

Dunno wtf pelosi and co. are doing but they are fucking it all up too in terms of helping us.

Trump is the dumbest person I've ever seen in my entire life and the worst "president" we will ever have in the history of this country, and there's no argument (so don't try, you wont change the fact that I'm right), BUT, The whole entire government is fucking us.

"If you let em fuck you
There will be no foreplay
Rest assured
They'll screw you complete
Till your ass is blue and grey."

I didn't say a month or so as i said a week or two. That's typical of mcconnel trying to pass some of his bull shit bills.

I thought you meant 2 weeks to get it right, cause they already said it would take another 2 to get all the checks out, thats why I said a month.

I’ll disagree with your first statement. It’s clear this virus originated with the wet markets of China.
No. It evolved from a previous strain. This strain apparently evolved in China but no one knows where the parent strain came form. Viruses have no country.

Semantics. The fact is that it evolved and passed to humans in China. This is a direct result of the wet markets there. So yes, China is to blame for this.

So you would rather have a bad bill rather than a good bill? That's how we got that crappy tax bill that greatly benefitted the large corporations and rich and very little for the middle on down. 1-2 weeks is a very short time. It could very well take less than a week.

Id rather people who need money now because they were let go, or cant work got it, now, and that the politicians would quit screwing around (all of them).

Well we disagree then as i would rather have a bill that takes care of the majority that need it rather than a mcconnel bill that is given little to no time to evaluate how it benefits EVERYONE. McConnel likes to slam through partisan bills that don't offer enough. If it's not a good bill it needs to be amended.

Both sides like to slam crap into bills, but if you’re cool spending however long it takes while peoples kids cant eat then cool. Never once said I wanted McConnells crap in there.

However long? Where did i ever indicate that? You are adding words to my narrative. I said 1 to 2 weeks and would probably take less.

Would you sign a huge contract with just a day or 2 to evaluate? No need to answer as we will just agree to disagree.

Youve added a lot of words to what Ive said too.

Got to disagree with the bolded part. We got that crappy tax bill because Republicans controlled the entire government and that's the bill they wanted.
