Monroe getting chippy with Meyers.

LaimBiebs strikes again!

(God he gets hit in the head a lot.)

The question has to be asked.

Knowing crabbe is gonna be PAID this offseason. Do you try to trade him before the deadline in a package for an upgrade at a position, and plan on resigning Gerald Henderson?

I think Portland will match most anything. I think he's a big piece of the plan going forward, and I think he will be a starter in the playoffs.

No. Guys like Crabbe are hard enough to find that you hold onto him. There's a REASON why he's going to get paid. 3 and D guys are very hard to come by.

I would not trade him. I would take the chance that no one goes crazy with an offer. He is in the right age group with Dame and CJ and I think the 3 of them play well together. Hopefully we can keep him for about 10 per year.

I think the consensus across the nation is that he's a below average defender...

Still just a 12.9 PER (not the be all and end all, but still), and sometimes 3-D guys get overpaid (Danny Green). I'd still want to match, just for the sake of not losing an asset, but unless he takes another developmental jump, whatever he gets this summer will likely be an overpay in comparison to what he actually contributes to this team.

Here are some comparable players and contracts:

Terrence Ross -- 3yrs, 33 mil
Jeremy Lamb -- 3yrs, 21 mil
Jae Crowder -- 5yrs, 35 mil (he blew up this year)
Alec Burks -- 4yrs, 42 mil
JR Smith -- 2yrs, 20 mil
Shumpert -- 4yrs, 40 mil
Danny Green, 4yrs, 40 mil

I don't think 10-12 mil/yr is all that bad given what his comparisons get. That's what... an 8th of the new cap? Crabbe is a top 5-6 level player on a good team, so it's not all that bad.

Crowder is the ONLY player on that list that is worth the money he's being paid.

Is Crabbe even a good defender though? I don't see it as much as you guys do. He's a decent defender and a solid offensive player. That doesn't say $12M to me.

I think we need to trade him and Meyers at the deadline. They're gonna get overpaid which is a lose-lose scenario. Either we get stuck with with bad contracts for years or we lose them for nothing.

decent defender- has a penchant for getting in the passing lanes, sub par in isolation, not great in the PnR. Can get lost at times and float/lose track of his man. Has a ridiculous wing span, gets a lot of deflections- has the potential to be a solid-good defender. Doesn't have the athleticism to be an elite defender strength and/or speed.

If you wanted me to put a sticker price on what he's worth, $10m because he's 23 and there's still potential, particularly on the offensive side. Defensively I feel it's just time/experience for him to pick up some nuances. But he'll probably command 12-14m b/c of the competition for his services.

I will be surprised if both Meyers and Crabbe are here post AS break unless something bigger happens.

Paying for potential can get tricky and burn you. I think Crabbe, Meyers, and filler (picks?) might be enough to get Rudy Gay to bring off the bench. And the thing is, Meyers+Crabbe will be making more than Gay next year, so we will save cap space. We'd just need one big signing (Preferably Horford) to fill out a very solid playoff team, but we'd also still have more cap space leftover.

I'm a big crabbe fan, but this is why I'd be okwith us packaging him with other guys that are not Cj or dame to bring a big guy in. It would only make sense to a team going to be over the cap or near it so they'd have his bird rights to sign him.

Crabbe will probably get 10 million per year this offseason

If Crabbe is willing to accept 30 minutes a night as our 6th man, Id give him 4/40. He is what a 6th man should be in my opinion. frantic defense with a great outside shot. He is worth it and we have the money. We need a true 6th man, so why not? Who else are you going to get that fits the bill for less money but of equal/upside talent?

Id like to add, that money will have to be spent if we are to contend. Crabbe knows the system and fits in well, why trade him to pay someone else the same that doesn't know the system and might not fit?

$15M per year for a 6th man? Hell no
