The player who most approximates Wesley's playing style (known for defense as much as offense, a catch-and-shoot guy, should be a good 3-point shooter) is Crabbe. Afflalo is more of a mid-range guy, CJ is no-defense and used to having the ball and creating. There was a while there when Crabbe looked pretty good, but has since vanished. Do we know why? Did he just have a couple of bad games and fall out of the rotation? Can he fall back in again? After all, we hung on to him when we dumped three players.

ask Claver, maybe he has an insight to why Crabbe is getting the Stotts "Claver treatment"

I tend to agree.

You know, it's funny. When Lopez went down, Stotts decided to start Freeland in his place and keep Kaman as a reserve. This feels like almost the same situation to me. It's really too bad Stotts won't apply the same logic here.

Also, as much as I've touted Gee as my preferred starter in Matthews' spot, I think Crabbe might be an even better option, seeing as he's already started a few times this year, and would have less of a transition to integrate into the offense.

However, I think the catch here is that Crabbe would likely be most effective in the starting lineup alongside three other dangerous scoring options, where he could basically fit in, pick his spots, and focus mostly on defense. Unfortunately, Stotts has as much as promised Afflalo the starting nod in Matthews' absence (via public comments to that effect), and likely won't rescind that decree.

Dare I suggest that Kevin McHale has handled Josh Smith's addition to his squad better than Stotts will Afflalo's? Seems ludicrous, but it may be fair.

IIRC, Crabbe had a nagging knee injury that kept him from getting much run in practice, which in turn kept him off the court.

He will leave his shadow behind the bench as Afflalo is the best possible Wes replacement.

Then who is the best possible Afflalo replacement, since Afflalo starting created a reserve scoring/defense void?

The great thing about picking up Afflalo was that we seemed to finally have a reliable bench. Moving Afflalo into the starting lineup weakens our bench significantly. Putting someone like Crabbe or Gee into the starting role, however, does not significantly weaken the starting lineup because he would be surrounded by several other effective scorers.

There is a point of diminishing returns with offensive firepower in a five-man group. I don't think Afflalo over Crabbe/Gee improves the starting lineup nearly as much as it improves the bench.

+> See your point. I was thinking about a Wes replacement and Afflalo was my answer. Perhaps Crabbe may play this season after Gee.

At this point you give AAA the start and then you give CJ a chance to step up. Crabbe will be given every opportunity in practice to make his case. If he is worthy then he will see the court. Pretty simple.

Seth Curry has reached agreement with the Suns on a 10-day contract, according to RealGM

Crabbe can play. When he was in Idaho I watched all his games and honestly ..he seemed lethargic at best. Here he had seven great games early on and two bad ones that led to his benching later. I think it's more attitude than talent and Stotts must think he needs more maturity on this level. I liked his 7 game stretch and he's long and can play defense. From the cheap seats here, I favored him over CJ most of the season, Claver I favored over both so that's how much insight I've got. Crabbe is a decent option at the end of the bench. Gee, on the other side of the coin is way more intimidating to play against. Crabbe has to really bring it to suplant Gee at the backup 3 spot

Whats this have to do with Crabbe?

Duh, he's saying the Blazers won't be serving up any Crabbe Curry.

At this point you are :deadhorse:

Afflalo will start for the remainder of the season.
