Crapzano: What a tool! And a weasel, too!

Well, I'm not a journalism major, but having spent seven years in sports journalism, in radio, online, and print, I might be able to provide a little insight.

Online journalism is a weird entity. When you write an article in print, there's no do-overs. You can't call-back every paper that was delivered that morning. The best you can do is write a retraction the next day, clarifying your point and explaining the mistake. Since this article didn't appear in print (from what I understand), and he only posted it online, then he can happily go back into the database and edit that sucker.

Was it bad form? No. It's better to correct wrong information, rather than let it stand. Should he have taken the blame? Yes.

If you write an article that has an error in it, which I have done in the past, you write a retraction. If you were given bad info, you say "I was given bad info," if you didn't do the proper research, you suck it up and take the heat. Period.

I'm not sure if he changed it again, because I don't see where he blames the Blazers for his bad journalism. All I see is this;

(Shout out to "LODominating" here, who had some good points via comment this morning. I went back and asked more questions of my sources. Sorry for the confusion. My bad.)

Did anyone call into his "show" and rip on him?

Understandable. And I agree with you that it'd be nice to have a columnist that doesn't have opinions that try to piss on the Blazers time to time.
And I apologize if I was sounding harsh or anything, I'm just in the business myself and feel like I have to defend it sometimes. But Canzano doesn't make it easy when he gets the simplest of facts wrong like the RLEC thing.

edit: And it's probably why the only guys with differing opinions are journalism majors. haha.

Well you've hurt my feelings, that's for sure.

I will try to move on from this.

:pimp:

-strong journalism major defending canzano above

If you are a "strong journalism major" and you support the ethics of Crapzano, and you don't understand how completely idiotic his reporting was on this issue, you should strongly think about changing your major.

Maybe "Used Car Salesman 101" would be a good major. Or politics for that matter.

It was done in the comments sections, where he did a reply to someone, and then said something about not getting the correct info from the Blazers. Yeah, right, blame it on Blazers.

He may have changed that by now, though, too.
