Crazy trade ideas

I'm tired of infield singles. I want to swing for the fences. Rather strike out on a big cut than end up stranded on second playing safe small-ball.

I get that, however, if we strike out on something like that we'll be back to bunting down the line hoping it stays fair for the next decade.

Well, I wouldn't do Bones' deal. I'm not emptying the farm system for a slugger. But I'd gladly give up CJ, a pick, and anything not including Dame/Zach/Nurk. I believe in big swings, but I don't believe it mortgaging the house on a single bet. (pardon the mixed metaphor)

I wouldn't do my deal either, that's just what it would take for NOP to not hang up the phone.

And even factoring in games missed for health reasons, his impact on a team for a season far, far surpasses anyone on the Blazers not named Lillard, and nearly any combination of Blazers not including Lillard.

I'd gladly take 60 games of Davis any season. If Pelicans fans/management don't appreciate what he brings, even in limited appearances, they're fools.
What is NOP's winning percentage when Davis plays? And what's the percentage when he doesn't? I don't know where to look this up...

Turner/Harkless/Leonard for Noah/Lee/Dotson

Lillard/Napier
McCollum/Lee/Connaughton
Aminu/Layman
Collins/Vonleh
Nurkic/Davis/Noah

We save a good chunk of money the next 2 years, which helps with Nurk extension looking. NY sheds a big unplayable(ish) contract for a big playable one, and gets 2 players with some untapped potential left.
We get to move on entirely from our disastrous last offseason, get a solid backup 2/3. I think Noah can still give us 8-10 minutes a night. Dotson was added in to make salaries work, I know nothing about him, and don't care to look. Still felt, with their previous interest in Harkless, we should get a little more somewhere, but their roster is devoid of talent. Maybe the right to swap 1sts? We could be relatively close.

They trot out:
Jack/Nktilina
Hardaway/Turner
Harkless
Porzingis
Kanter/Leonard

Be realistic please. Our 3 most bad contracts trade in 1 trade ? Even the Knicks are not so dumb

My concern is that he's the next Tracy McGrady.....amazing talent....maybe not long career?

I would do:

Napier and 2018 second rounder for Rodney Hood - Jazz will not want to pay him in the Summer as Mitchell is a better and younger prospect, and they badly need a point guard that can shoot.

Harkless for Courtney Lee - despite good game last night Harkless IMO doesn't want to be here, and New York is his preferred destination. Lee has had a decent season and he has similar contract only shorter.

CJ for Saric, Johnson, 2018 Philadelphia 1st round pick, 2018 Lakers pick - Philadelphia will want to compete for playoffs this year and if they decide that they won't get LeBron or George in the off-season, CJ is exactly what they need. We get two decent picks and a combo forward with great playmaking ability.

Then say we have no. 8-10 from Lakers, and two picks around no. 13-20 - our own and Philadelphia's. That could even allow us to move into top 5 but most likely it would also allow us to get one of Miles Bridges and Kevin Knox and another two young talents. That's a great rebuild.

That first trade is a good idea I haven't thought of!

I don't hate CJ but he is just a poor fit here and frankly has regressed this yr and is a big black hole - he IMO needs to be traded for a better roster fit. Don't have any great ideas but hope something gets done.

Here's what I would change to get something like 5-6 firsts:
-Still do Napier and a 2nd for Hood

-3 team deal:
BOS Gets: Davis, MIN/LAL 2nd (via POR)
NYK Gets: Harkless
POR Gets: Noah, Thomas (TPE), 2018 BOS 1st, 2018 NYK 1st
*NYK sheds $14M in unplayable contracts for free agency and adds Harkless. BOS trades their late first for a future early 2nd a big they need, using the injury exception from Hayward.

- Trade McCollum, Vonleh to PHI for Saric, Bayless, Anderson, Johnson, 2018 PHI 1st, 2018 LAL 1st (Top 5 Protected - 2019 SAC 1st backup)
*More likely for PHI to take this trade, as they would trade out contracts that would allow them to have more cap space for PG or LBJ next off-season.

- Trade Aminu to CLE for 2018 CLE 1st, Shumpert.
*CLE could use a backup SF, and adds another guy that could guard Draymond/Durant. Would get Frye's minutes.

So we'd have this rotation to finish:
Lillard / Bayless / Baldwin
Anderson / Connaughton / Layman
Hood / Turner / Thomas
Collins / Saric / Swanigan
Nurkic / Johnson / Leonard / Noah

And would have the following picks:
LAL (8th?)
POR (9th?)
PHI (13th?)
NYK (16th?)
CLE (27th?)
BOS (28th?)

Let's say we package 8, 13, and 27 (or 16) for 4. A team like PHX would likely do this, trading down to 8 expecting Sexton or Young to be there (Young and Booker would be like Steph and Klay). They would also have either Bamba or Jackson Jr. there so they'd be safe and would add two picks. That could be a combo of Sexton+Walker, or Young+Carter Jr., etc.

We'd likely have Michael Porter available there at 4. (Doncic, Ayton, and Bagley go top 3, if not, draft one of them).
At 9 we could go with Miles Bridges
At 16 we could go with Lonnie Walker
I'd attach 28 to Bayless or Thomas to shed salary (BKN?), get a trade exception, and cut the other one.

Let go of Anderson, Johnson, Thomas, Connaughton, and Layman.

Lillard / Baldwin /
Hood / Walker /
Porter / Bridges / Turner
Collins / Saric / Swanigan
Nurkic / Leonard / Noah

An under-24 core of: Nurk, Collins, Porter, Bridges, Saric, Walker, and Baldwin to go along with Lillard (28) and Hood (26).

We would own half the draft if that happened. While that is an enticing prospect, I very much doubt you can get this many picks through trades in a couple of months.

I'm not a fan of Bayless at all but if the trade makes us better then aright.

I still think the Clips are the best target. They're not going anywhere. They have a couple guys that are in the same window as Dame. We have some big contracts to match up. Just need to convince them to take on Turner lol

Speaking of Turner, I mentioned Minnesota as a team that would/could be interested, and that was before Teague went down.

As for the Clippers, who would you be interested in?

If we're still trying to put people around Dame's window - Griffin. He's wasted on that team. They need a rebuild. I'm not really interested in Jordan.

I like Blake in a vacuum but he’s always hurt and it would most likely take Collins, and I’m not interested in that.
I know it isn't our (yours and mine) money but Blake also makes an obscene amount of money in a couple of years. Is he still worth that money then? No idea.

Ibaka would be a big time move, one which Olshey should look at. Could really help boost our defense to the next level as well. Ibaka would fit in well in the offense and defense here. I think he’s been disappointing in Toronto, and it might be time for them to move him.

OK. I'm sure this would be a controversial trade, and I haven't watched Oubre enough to know if he is the guy who could be the SF we need. He is a good 3 pt shooter and is said to have the tools to be a stopper on defense. So you would have to believe Oubre will be very good and that Nurkic will probably never be a consistent player and that he might be the kind of guy who would lose his edge once he got a long term contract. Trade would be Mahinmi (and his terrible contract) and Oubre for Nurkic and Turner.

^^^^ The Wiz have SF Otto Porter who they just gave a big contract too and SF Kelly Oubre who has 2 years left at just over 2 mill and SF Tom Satoransky at 2 years 3 mill. The way that all 3 are playing we could have a shot at maybe Oubre at some point. I would think they would lose him when he becomes a free agent based on the fact that he most likely would like to start somewhere. How we make this happen is the challenge.

I like your thinking. I'd love to have that kid.

Popped into this thread for the first time and wow, your guys' perceived value of our current contracts vs reality (especially our expirings) is all out of whack.

Shabazz and a 2nd for a starting level wing...rofl. Utah doesn't want to pay him? They have next to nothing in commited salary past 18-19.
