Honest question to the electric/hybrid fans here. Why? My family recycles more than anybody we know and are very aware of the environment.....BUT....... I just can't drive one of those little wind up cars. Respect people that want to save on gas money, but I just try to save in other ways. I need my V8.
My wife doesn't have to pump gas in the 110 degree heat. It costs less for the electricity than the gas. The car is comfortable, has good A/C and radio, all sorts of tech (self parks even), and can haul a lot of stuff (as much as a hatchback, anyway).
It has over 2x the range per charge than she needs to get to work and back with stops along the way to shop (if she chooses).
The car doesn't have a lot of horsepower (something like 115) but it's deceiving. Electric motors have lots of torque at all speeds. You step on the "gas" and it keeps accelerating (up to a max of 85MPH, good enough for highway) without shifting. It's surprisingly quick.
