We need to ditch Brown.

Convert Mays. He’s gonna need to be converted anyway. Sign another point guard to a two way.

Use Reath as the main backup big.

Marang says we will probably file for an injury exception for Rob. Says we might get 5 million we could use.
Portland already has the $10m MLE available right now & they chose not to use it.
There's also a couple if $8m TPE on the books too.

These are larger and have the same flexibility as the DPE injury exception.

No harm in getting the $5m DPE as well... but it will not matter

I think the DPE provides more luxury tax space though right?

Blazers probably want to leave some tax space for trades too

What happened to the big guy who died his hair like Sysco?

I don't disagree with the idea of this thread, but it should probably be done after the deadline. Moses's salary may be useful for matching purposes.

yeah, that's how I'm looking at it:

Blazers are 5.3M under the tax and we can be about 97% certain Seattle won't agree to the Blazers going over the tax line this season. Portland has their full MLE so they could sign a player; and they have that pair of 8.3-8.8M TPE's so they could trade for players. That DPE is pretty irrelevant because it's redundant with what Portland already has

now, those TPE's might come in handy if the Blazers become really active heading into the trade deadline. And as you said, just applying for and receiving that DPE costs nothing so sure, get it

but chances are really high none of those exceptions will be used unless there's some great 3-5M opportunity. Kind of disappointing

I haven't seen anything about that. AFAIK, both the Williams full salary and the salary of the player acquired with the DPE count against the cap & tax. If Williams medically retires then his salary would fall off the cap

but maybe there's been a change in the new CBA I'm not aware of
****************************************************************************
DPE's are both more flexible and less flexible than MLE's and TPE's. DPE's can be used in either trades, signings, or waiver claims.

BUT, IIRC, DPE's can only be used on players in the final years of their current contract in trades and waiver claims. TPE's don't have that restriction

speaking of changes, starting next season the MLE becomes a lot more flexible. Teams will be able to use the MLE in trades like a TPE:

"Beginning in 2024/25, this form of mid-level exception can be used to acquire a non-free-agent via trade, as long as his contract fits into the exception (in terms of years and dollars)."

https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2023/07/hoops-rumors-glossary-mid-level-exception-6.html

that's going to change the off-season & trade deadline calculations for a lot of teams

Next domino to drop? Sign another 2 way and or cut one big to sign another big?

Scoot was hurt quite a bit last season too. We have a few guys that are injury prone.
Where was all this negativity pre draft? All these recently uncovered negatives around Scoot. Injury prone, mediocre stats. Wtf? Why didn’t we draft Ausar instead? Im actually questioning the franchise on this pick now. I didn’t drill down at all on Scoot but is he just pure hype? Starting to sound like we made a mistake and a preventable one.

Seriously bro? Why do people give up on players so quick? Any answer is wrong, but feel free to give a poor reason why lol. It makes no sense to give up on a player BEFORE THANKSGIVING OF THE FIRST YEAR THEY ARE IN THE LEAGUE BEFORE THE AGE OF 20.

I'll never understand it.

People who were staunch Scoot supporters are suddenly saying he's injury prone. Others are saying that he had not mindboggling stats as everyone on the board seemed to say, but banal stats against the G-League. People also said he ended on a series of poor games in the G-League. My question is, if this was known why was basically no one but perhaps Predator based on his signature mentioning this? If there are doubts about a guy who is 6'2" draft one of the 6'9" to 6'5" guys that were drafted after him. I'm saying where the FUCK was all this negative info that was seemingly witheld by folks before the draft that apparently everyone knew (except me I didn't look as I assumed the pick would be traded)? I haven't "given up" but now that its being revealed he's injury prone and already missing games EARLY in his career, that's a very concerning sign, and that's not even getting into his play. I haven't given up, but hearing he has injury concerns after an injury leading to a month's absence shouldn't be something that is glossed over. Remember Oden was young too!

No offense Rasta, but your general negativity caused me to not put a lot of stock into either you or Predator at the time. I am aware a small minority were saying it. What I find a bit shocking is guys like NateBishop suddenly revealing that they knew Scoot had an injury history that was significant. I'm appalled that we seem to have drafted a small guy with an injury history who is already missing several to a dozen games when apparently there were some red flags about his health. Ultimately its my fault for being lazy, I'm just a bit horrified to find out Scoot has an injury history which is already turning into actual injuries where a not insignificant amount of games are being missed. Also, Billups needs to stop running players into the ground, or we need to fire Billups.

And now you know better. Or would do, if you were capable of learning. No offense.

I knew he was oft injured, had sucky numbers in the Gleague, and was "undersized." Had Brandon Miller with the second pick. Even despite Ausars early success, Scoot has "it." And that's something worth taking a big swing on. Time will tell if it's a home run, triple or even a single. Best buckle up and try to enjoy the ride. Dame Lillard is not coming back anytime soon.

I think we were really hoping Brandon Miller would fall to us... I was. That would change everything.

But I think you had to take Scoot if he's there.
