As a Cowboys fan I liken it to buying new tires. Something you need to keeping running, but nothing to get excited over. As much time and coverage his contract got, you'd expect a bigger payoff. The payoff is going 8-8 or 7-9 or 9-7 instead of 5-11. Big deal. I am happy for Dak, though, if anyone on that team deserves a big pay day, it's him.

All good. Just flipping ish. I don’t like the Cowboys, so I felt compelled to respond.

Everyone gasps over the latest quarterback contract and in a few years, it's the 12th or 15th highest quarterback number in the league.

Also, the reason the Cowboys gave in is because applying the franchise tag this year would have essentially meant not being able to next year and potentially seeing him walk for nothing. While technically they could have tagged him next year, the tag amount would have been like $55 million...essentially impossible within a salary cap that would still be recovering from the drop this year.

The money is crazy in Pro Sports anymore but that cool as long as owners are willing to pay those salaries, in capitalist country supply and demand can dictate price. Fans are paying for it in someway because as the owners and sponsors are making millions also.

Dak comes out of this looking amazing and getting everything he wanted. Last year he wanted a 5 year deal at 35 million per or 175 total, Dallas refused to give him the 5th year. Instead they tag him for 31 million in 2020 and then give him 160 for the next 4, meaning he basically got 5 years for 191 million. Cowboys refusal to deal with him cost them an extra 16 million, I know it's chump change to Jerrah but still.

The salary cap artificially holds down player salaries so that owners can make greater profits. It's not actually a purely capitalist system.
