Well, at least this guy does...

From: Dallas News Blog

The Mavs have made it clear they fear no team in a best-of-seven series. That's swell and all, but the Mavs probably need a favorable matchup to win a playoff series for the first time since 2006.

The Lakers obviously are a foe the Mavs need to avoid in the first round. Odds are the Mavs would be on vacation after four straight seven-point losses.

We saw last season what happens when the Mavs get a playoff matchup with Chris Paul's Hornets, and it wasn't pretty. One of the Mavs' biggest defensive flaws is their inability to contain elite point guards. So cross Tony Parker's Spurs and Deron Williams' Jazz off the list along with Paul's Hornets.

I'm on the fence about the Rockets. The Mavs have no answer for Yao Ming. PG Aaron Brooks has the kind of quickness that could give the Mavs problems. Houston could slow down Dirk by throwing Luis Scola, Ron Artest and Shane Battier at him. But it's been a long time since the Rockets have won a playoff series.

Not sure about the Nuggets, either. The fact that Denver has won all three meetings with the Mavs this season certainly isn't encouraging. But the Nuggets (5-5) have been struggling down the stretch.

That leaves one West playoff team I'd feel confident betting on the Mavs to beat: the Portland Trail Blazers. The Mavs are 3-0 against the Blazers this season, and Portland has precious little playoff experience on its roster. Plus, Jason Kidd vs. Steve Blake is a major mismatch to the Mavs' advantage.

Given the way we've played against Dallas I can't blame him...

I'm liking a healthy Nicolas Batum vs Jason Kidd though. Jason Terry is the one who kills us, not Kidd, not even Nowitzki. If Bayless could step up and defend him we'd have a great chance. Or if Oden came back raring to go the Mavs wouldn't be able to stop him.

Nowitzki looks pretty good against us the last game we played Dallas. He can make crazy circus shots and is one of the better one on one players in the league.

I don't want Dallas at all. Hopefully they end up with a 7 or 8 seed and get knocked out in the first round, where we get a Houston with HCA.

just sayin' ;)

They may be only team that could sweep us in the playoffs. They don't seem fazed at the Rose Garden.

Can you name a playoff team that doesn't want Portland? With Portlands record on the road against conference foes, and the chances of Portland having home court, you would be out of your mind to not want Portland in the first round of the playoffs.

mixum talk! ban this man!

:ohno:

I'm with most of you. They should want PDX. But it looks like Portland/Dallas will finish 7/8 (thank God, lol).

Yep. Given the way the Blazers have been playing on the road, any team with HCA is going to beat us. Even with HCA, a more experienced team is likely to steal one in Portland - which is all it takes. :sigh:

Am I the only one who thinks it'd be a completely different story in the playoffs? If the Blazers came out with even half the intensity they did in the Lakers or Spurs games beating Dallas in a 7 game series would be very possible.

dallas has our number pretty good, unfortunately they would most likely have to beat someone else to play us in the 2nd round, if we can win our 1st rounder as well.

While Dallas had been too much for Portland this year, so far - I too think it will look very different in the playoffs. Hack - the number of off-balance unbelievable shots Dirk Diggler put against us in both home games was mind boggling. Sooner or later they will not all go in...

No if they came out with half the intensity, they would end up with a L, because half that intensity level will not get it done.. Yes, I am just fargin with you.:devilwink:

Not at all. It will be a different story in the playoffs.

I just have no idea if it will be a fun to read story or a horror story. Only a couple of the guys on the team have played significant minutes in the playoffs. Off the top of my head I can't think of too many guys that played awesome their first time in.

There is also the chance that some guys who play well in the regular season will suck in the playoffs. I like to call it Cliff Robinson Syndrome. I haven't the slight idea if any current player will come down with this horrible affliction or not. Though I have a feeling that two guys will get a bad case of CRS, Blake and Travis.

I have nothing to base this on, since neither guy has played many playoff games, but my gut tells me that when push comes to shove they will fail.

Funny how times change.

San Antonio is now the least-feared Texas team.

I think we'd sweep the Spurs, but Houston and Dallas would beat us unless we dump the snailball offense.

let me tell ya something.... the whole west is drooling over getting us in the first. dont kid yourself. with blake and sergio... running things.... its all too easy for good teams to whip up on us

dont kid yourself

Classic Mixum. The man with the crystal ball.

I think we could take any team to six games due to the rose garden's prowess. Not sure teams are drooling to come into the rose garden...

I would start with buying all the requisite baby stuff. Bottles and car-seats and diapers. You know.

Unfortunately, given the Blazers play lately, there's more chance that Dallas will get the number one seed and we get the eight than vice versa. I don't think this guy is going to get his wish but I don't blame him for dreaming about it!

If I was any other team, I'd want Portland as well in the first round. We're young and inexperienced when it comes to playoff time, no one knows how we're going to react to it all. That's why HCA will be so important for us to have any chance.
