Dame all but demanding vet roster (1 Viewer)

Also, as a fan, if we drafted Scoot to keep, I want Scoot to have as much opportunity to play and fail as possible. I don't want Dame playing 36 minutes in front of him.

3 guard lineup is 32 minutes a game. Scoot can start out with 25 in his rookie season. Scoot has a long wing span and at 200 lbs there are plenty of teams that they can be on the court together for 10 minutes.

I don't think Dame feels lied to nor do I think he would consider Scoot a slap in the face. Again not my first choice, but it is not a bad option.

Heavily disagree with your opinion, but we'll see.

Very easy to get Scoot 30 mpg with Dame as long as we trade Ant.

Are we only a Buck Williams away? If the answer is yes then let’s just trade the pick before it becomes a Sam Bowie. If not, then we have to do something else. I personally feel like we are several players and a coaching staff and a front office away, but I really want to be wrong about that.

I think if we draft and keep a lead guard that's around Dame's size, that is when Dame will ask out. I think there will be a trade involving the third pick and I'm just hoping it's a really good one.

If I'm Dame, drafting Scoot and not trading me would be a slap in the face. You're telling me you draft my eventual replacement instead after telling me for two years that you want to maximize the window of my prime.

Yes Scoot may be good out of the gate. Yes Scoot may be able to play with Dame. But in no scenario can I reasonably believe that using our most valuable asset on a player that is most likely to be a bench piece for the remainder of Dame's prime is "maximizing Dame's window".

Listening to Dame's comments in the last few months, I think he'd feel lied to and betrayed, and may want out just based on the principle.

I interpret that way as well, but there are people on this forum who disagree. It is what it is.

It's less about that and more about what it signifies.

Not to mention just assuming we trade Ant for something that's not just a salary dump.

This is gonna end good for Dame, good for his new team, BAD for us. That’s what I’m thinking.
Bad this year, probably bad next year. But we will be young and scrappy, unlike some previous times we’ve been awful (something something donut guy)

Haynes saying it's pick three going out or Dame going out. I've thought this was what Dame has been saying the whole time and although Haynes has been wrong in the past, this is what I believe. If we pick with and keep the third pick then the team should just plan on trading Dame and making those arrangements draft night to maximize the youth they can get for him.

"Will he be traded before draft night?" No...... he can't be traded until July 10th. It's like these people don't do any research at all.

So Chris Haynes said that if there is a trade for Dame, it is most likely he will go to either the Nets or the Heat. He said Boston is out and not the Knicks. Also said not to the Western Conference.
Both teams have Dame's "dawgs" - Bridges and Bam.
Either of these get anyone excited?
Dame and Nurk to the Nets for Simmons, Claxton, Finney-Smith, & Suns 1st rounders from 23, 25, 27 & 29
or
Dame to the Heat for Herro, Robinson, Jovic & Heat 1st rounds from 23, 28 & 30 for Dame

I think the idea that any trade for a player with 1 year remaining on his contract is a bad trade is a bit weird. NBA contracts are relatively short. And teams usually don't sign all-star level players to 4 year deals with the intention of trading them with 3 years left on the deal. Almost never happens. Things can just sour and teams decide to move on with blessings form the players involved.

I have seen nothing that says Brooklyn is looking to trade Bridges, and he's about the only 'logical' target for #3 that has a long term deal. That's a big reason why his price would be high, if he even has a selling price

just about every other player that's a 'realistic' possibility for the 3rd pick (or less), Brown, Siakam. PG13, DDR, OG...all only have one guaranteed year left on their deals. John Collins has 2. There are no risk free paths to roster upgrades; none

Portland is not going to get any guarantee for an extension from any of these guys. They will simply have to take a chance like they did on Grant; like OKC did on PG13

I'll say again...people should just stop imagining Dame will be traded for any 2023 picks. The chances that he demands a trade before the draft, and even before the off-season rolls for a few weeks are close to zero

I think they would be picking for us.

You don't think Grant and Portland made a handshake deal on what would happen this summer?

If it was between those two offers, I'd take the Nets package. Many of those Suns picks are unprotected and Durant will be gone. Booker will still be there, but with not of lot of help and not much Draft capital to bring in new talent. It gets a rim running, defensive big that will help defensively and Simmons contract comes off the books in a couple years when you have an idea of what you have in all the youngsters and will look to add veterans or some free agent pieces.

Unprotected 1st round picks are like gold. There is of course no one of Dame's caliber in that proposal, but it signals a hard reset that probably needs to happen and Portland won't have Dame's $58 and $63 million dollar payouts when he is ~36/37.

I like the Nets trade much better.
Even if the Nets wanted to pull Nurk, Claxton, & Finney-Smith out of the deal - I still like it better.

Scoot
Sharpe
?
Ben Simmons
Claxton

We better hope Simmons reverts to 4 years ago. When we pick top 3 again next season we can get our SFOTF.

those phoenix picks are meaningless in my mind
I would love some future Phoenix picks. Durant, while still great, is getting older and has a definite shelf-life. They also used all of their resources to acquire him. They have like a 3 year window to do something and afterwards are kind of fucked.

their new owner seems a bit maniacal. i heard him talk on a podcast last month and dude reminded me of Ballmer a bit. I think he will continue to try to field a competitive roster even when KD is done.

I don't understand why Dame continues to do these interviews. For what purpose? He knows what questions are going to be asked.
And he knows he's gonna get aggregated when no one will listen to his 10 minute response and only will clip 10 seconds of it to play on First Take. I was apathetic about it for the past two years. It's tiring now. Let Cronin do his job, and if he doesn't then ask out then. All this shit does now is lessen his leverage in trade talks.

I get applying pressure. This ain't it. And he keeps continually stomping on all of us fans of his in Portland every time he goes on and says some shit.

The new owner is definitely a try-hard. However, given the lack of foresight with the Durant trade, I don't see them being able to climb out of the muck longterm. That trade was a rash decision that gutted their depth and resources for a very old player. There is a timer ticking and I personally want their picks when the clock hits zero, because they don't have the resources to get stronger.

cringeworthy, but i agree

I was being attacked for saying Dame should keep his mouth shut on Blazers related business publicly yesterday. Had to include every Blazers employee to make the argument somewhat palatable. I'm not typically ahead of the media.

None of us know what the situation is but if Dame has talked to Joe and he knows trades are on the table that Dame would be OK with but Joe is trying to sell Dame on playing with Scoot. This stuff might make a lot of sense. The other thing that makes sense is that the deals are already on the table, Dame knows everything is going to be good and so he's just answering things honestly. I think Dame should feel free to speak how he wants. KD demanded a trade and got one that was very good for the Nets, I don't blame KD for doing that and that isn't even what Dame is doing. I don't think Dame saying what he has said makes Joe's life harder and people who are Dame fans listening to these dudes go off on how this is disloyal are buying some wold tickets.
