You're both misquoting him.

He didn't say "have a conversation."

He said, "give us what we need to have a true chance to compete for that. If that's something that isn't possible, or something that can't get done, then we got a different conversation to be had."

Not sure what more I can say if you think saying that they need to have a conversation is the same thing as saying "a different conversation (needs) to be had."

If I wasn't married and I wanted to propose to my wife, and we started talking about marriage. If I said to her, "I want to spend the rest of my life with you, but if that isn't possible, if that's something that can't get done, then we have a different conversation to be had." What would that imply?

If that's the topic that's being discussed, then yes.... I'll focus on that topic.

I shared my thoughts about the interview after he posted it.

But if we're going to discuss what kind of impact the statements made about Brooklyn and Miami could have..... why wouldn't I focus on that portion of the interview instead of him saying that he'll be here when the season starts?

And I think that impression could change very quickly, because the way that I interpret his statement, that he expects to be here at the start of the season, is that he is confident we will make changes. Maybe he's confident that we will move the pick. I don't know. At the very least he seems like he's confident that he's going to get his way.

That could shift very quickly if we take Scoot and we say we're going to keep Scoot.

But the answers that he gave about which teams he would want to play for if a trade were to happen, and the fact that Haynes so adamantly said that Dame would not want to play for Boston, leads me to believe that Dame has thought what his next move would be if he were to ask out. That might not seem significant to you, but there is a good portion of people on here who say that Dame would NEVER leave. Never ever. Never in a million years.

You are overthinking it.
Nothing more to be discussed really. Its clear you only want to hear agreements to your opinion and are too quick to dismiss many many other things he has said and done that counter that opinion.

Such as? You and that other guy like to cite all these actions that Dame has done and dismiss actual quotes from Dame, but you never actually cite the actions or provide evidence. It's hilarious.

because he said both things in the same interview. Furthermore, the next day, he clarified his remarks and reiterated, as well as emphasized, hie belief he'd be a Blazer next season

can't you see the difference? I mean really...he was just spit-ball-speculating about Miami and Brooklyn, that was obvious as hell, no nuance needed, but he was stating his belief and intentions about Portland. And he made a point, forcefully to emphasize his belief and his intentions a 2nd time. And that fits perfectly into his longstanding loyalty to Portland

I'm sure you've noticed you're getting a lot of push-back right now. That's not because of your view on things. A lot of posters here share it. IMO, the push-back is because of how hard and how incessantly you are pushing the same narrow interpretation of events while not allowing Dame the room for some imperfect and in-artful comments that don't really convey his full range of thinking

Dame also stated something to the effect that if those teams traded for him, they wouldn't guaranty anything because of what they had to give back in compensation. Basically , a grass isn't greener kind of thing.

I don't think anyone here is saying Dame will never ask/get traded. It certainly could happen as it happens to nearly every NBA player who is in the league for 10+ years. Personally, I'm pushing back against the hyperbole. Admittedly, I'm not big on the Stephen A Smith or Skip Bayless style like some here appear to be aspiring to the S2 version of.

That's totally fine. I already acknowledged that. But as I said above, I think both statements can be interpreted on their own, and can indicate what could be going on inside Dame's head.

And that's why I said, I think the statement about him expecting to be here in the fall would indicate that he's confident we're going to acquiesce to his requests. But if the Blazers were to deviate from his expectations, that's when the second statement might come into play.

Because that's what we are talking about. I didn't "focus hard" on those statements when we were first discussing the interview. I'm "focusing hard" on the meaning of his statements about Brooklyn and Miami because that's what the group is talking about.

I got a lot of "push-back" when people didn't agree with me about LMA leaving too. And the funny thing is that there were people then, just as there are people now, who were ADAMENT that LMA would not leave. They were certain that LMA was going to re-sign. I'm not at all saying that Dame is LMA. Not even close, but the unwavering certainty and the abusive responses from some of the people on this forum are not new. I'm used to it. I have a handful of people on my ignore list because of it, and there are a couple people that are trending towards adding themselves to that list in this discussion (not you).

No. He did define what the conversation was.

Dame said that he believes the team has the assets to build a team that can compete. Those assets being the draft pick, maybe Simons, maybe Sharpe. I don't know what he thinks the assets are, but he clearly states that he thinks we have what it takes to go get pieces to compete right now. But if the team can't use those assets to build a team that can compete, a separate conversation would have to be had. What do you think that conversation would be?

Second, if someone disagrees with me, I'm going to debate them. I don't know why some of you have to back out of the conversation and start talking about me, or your feelings. I really couldn't care less about your feelings. I come on here to talk basketball.

He didn't mince words. I don't understand why you guys are fighting so hard on this. These aren't one of Dame's cryptic IG posts.

He sat down TWICE and said, for all intents and purposes, the same thing. Plain as day. Use your assets to put together a team that can compete, or we're going to have a different conversation. You're right, I'm hammering on this because I don't understand how anyone can see those clear fucking statements and think he meant anything else. Instead, you guys just say that I'm wrong and cite actions or words that disprove my "interpretation" and then don't post them. And then you get pissed when I ask you to post them.

I'm going to use the words directly from the source to counter people's opinions. If that seems repetitive, it's because people keep posting things that counter to what the man said himself. If you don't want those quotes thrown in your face, don't post things that would be counter to what Dame said. :dunno:
 
1. There are players Dame would’ve wanted to see on the team last year — Vanderbilt, OG
2. There are players — if Dame was traded — that he’d like to play with and therefore their current team IF said teams still could compete after a trade — Bam and Bridges.
3. There are players who have expressed to Dame that they’d like to play with him in Portland — Bridges, Brown are 2 — these have been said by those who have some inside access.

1. Dame wants to compete in the playoffs with a real chance.
2. Cronin wants to build around Dame.
3. Most all (19-year-old) rookies don’t help a team compete right away. Take that asset away and there are lesser assets to get the help they need, and that list of lesser trade assets is short.

In other words, draft and keep 3 likely leads to that other conversation … AND the team trades Dame by the trade deadline … which IMHO is waiting too long (due to risks) should they keep the 3. NateBishop3 and I may want very different pre-season outcomes, but maintaining the 2 timelines is IMHO the worst of 3 options — Unless Bridges, Siakam, Brown or OG comes for Simons, any filler, and future picks … well, that’s what options 1 and 2 are for.
