DAME COMING HOME?

First..to be on topic, I have zero expectations, only good feelings about this.

(this comment not in reply to anyone)

What does it mean to be realistic? Seriously. Does the idea of realistic.....pertain to group think? Is it an attraction to odds?
I find the idea of fans warning other fans to be realistic....fascinating. Hey, we all get to choose how we enjoy/follow/root
for our team. Is it me....or does it appear to others that folks who choose to be exuberant/colored glasses/fanboy....whatever,
choose way more often to stand alone in their thinking...while the fans who choose to be realistic want to guide others to their
thinking? I see words quite often like..."We can all see this"...or "We know how this is going to turn out". Why the we?

If I'm just seeing what I want to see, tell me if I'm off on this. I have not seen anyone trying to turn other fans to liking and believing
in the return of Dame. It seems that some, just like me, just want to enjoy this.

You are off on this. Not because what you say from your perspective isn't true, but people questioning any moves get equally shit on. We even had a post that said all posters that posted in the first 7 pages of the Yang Hansen draft thread (which was mostly shock at the value) should never post again.

Broussard is right when he said he could have chosen a contender where he was the 3rd or 4th option at best.
But that would not change his legacy. Not after the injury. So he might as well come back to the Blazers and at least improve his legacy in Portland.

While I get the excitement of reattaining this all time Blazer great, could someone remind me of all the 30+ year old athletes who made it back to anything close to their former selves post torn Achilles? Do posters think Kobe didn't put his all into his rehab to explain why he wasn't close to the same? Temper expectations indeed.

Also, does anyone know whether Dame suffered a partial or complete tear because that seems to make a difference.

Complete tear. When has any NBA player had a partial torn Achilles that they had surgery on and was out a year? A partial tear is a sprain.

Klay was 30 and came back winning a title.

Billups came back but he was older than Dame.

Maybe? I have a hard time believing the lakers won't make moves to put Luka in a winning situation. Same goes for the Warriors.
I mean of course they'll all try. Doesn't mean they'll succeed. The advantage we do have is better youth that those teams.

If he was the 9th best player on a Blazer team that won a title in 5 years it would do far more for his legacy than 3rd/4th option winning a title on someone else's team next season.

Box Score

Kobe’s injury happened the game after that great match between him and Dame. That game (in my opinion) is iconic in Lillards career. Dame dropped a career high to cap off his rookie season, Lakers were looking at the playoffs with a fairly decent roster without injuries. Ended up being swept by the Kawhi/Duncan/Parker/Ginobili/Splitter Spurs, which lost to the Heat 4-3 in the finals. This was the year Ray Allen hit that infamous 3 pointer in game 6.

Kobe Bryant tore his Achilles tendon on April 12, 2013, at the age of 34. This injury occurred during a game against the Golden State Warriors.

Same age, and roughly the same time of the year as Dame. Kobe came back in December of 2013… Which is INSANE!!! I hope we don’t see people getting crazy with the timeline on his return. If he’s good he’s good but let’s all agree there’s absolutely no need to rush anything, or to need him to play heavy minutes when he returns.

Kobe would come back and play 3 years before retiring 4/13/2016. Dropping 60 points in his final game.

Ding ding ding ding. . . Bingo! This take is 1000% accurate. This is exactly the sentiment I have.

& was/is a shadow of his former self. Dude was an elite on ball defender taking on the toughest assignments nightly... he was their Camara. Post Achilles, those days are over and he's guarding the baseline in a zone... it's why he didn't fit on the W's anymore. The difference in his mobility is night and day

Billups came back but he was older than Dame.
Came back? He played in all of 41 NBA games post Achilles over two seasons and was terrible. I asked for... "30+ year old athletes who made it back to anything close to their former selves post torn Achilles?"... & you came up with two who NBA players who did suffer torn Achilles but absolutely do not inspire hope for Dame regaining his game. If there is an example of an 30+year old athlete actually making it back to close to their former form from an Achilles I'd like to hear it

Durant was 30.

Rudy Gay was 30, actually pretty productive relative to his pre injury performance.

I don't think anyone is expecting Dame to return to pre injury performance.

The question is more how effective of an NBA player can he be.

Would you trade roster and assets with either of those teams right now?

Yeah, I wonder if Billups or Cronin are still in Vegas?

Probably need all 4 in PDX. Not sure when Jrue will be there.
Jrue and his family arrived days ago ..there's a clip of their arrival on the team page. I'm sure the Blazers are helping them set up a home in Portland and give them a big welcome!

Jrue was here before the front office and coaching staff went to Vegas. He was here with his family. I don't know if they're still here or what but they were here at the practice facility whenever that short video was shot. Word is that Dame is here. Maybe they'll do something with the media when SL is over. I don't know about Joe but Chauncey has usually stayed until the end of SL and so have the players that went down to practice with the SL team like Donovan had reportedly been doing and maybe the rest of the guys we saw on the sideline during the games.

I'll bet Dame throws some kick ass off season parties with his new teammates ...Clingan loves to fish and Dame's got a killer boat on the river

Maybe we should bring Travis Outlaw in to be the fishing coach.

Yeah I saw that, I had assumed he might have flown home to where he lives in the summer but maybe your right and he's still in PDX.
