DAME COMING HOME?

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

Basically, if a player is unhappy somewhere, you will get him moved sooner or later if he has an extension as well, so the only issue with Deni's ufa status is potential loss of asset. So the FO needs to figure out in advance if Deni might do a LMA and trade him beforehand.

Well, I went away in October. Haven't even checked in. It was the overwhelming hate for the gm. Today, I figured that there would be enough love because of Dame returning...that I would stop in to say hi.
Because of the overwhelming task Joe had of repairing and retooling this roster, I knew Dame's salary had to go somewhere else. There were zero pain free options in my viewscreen. Now that fate has brought
him back to stumptown, I will say this...this is bigger than salaries, or playing time, or development. All those things will work themselves out. This.....is about winning in our hearts. NO player, ever, has cared
about this jersey on their back like Dame. He has Rip City blood pumping in his veins.

Welcome home. May you ride off into the sunset as a winner, wearing the black and red, pointing at your wrist. In the mean time....I have no predictions. I have no demands, and no benchmarks. I am going to
watch this beautiful thing play itself out to whatever end. Even the best fiction writers can't make this shit up. This action/adventure inspirational drama, has it all.

I am absolutely all for letting you have your opinion. On this subject you are not alone about Joe Cronin.

However I tagged that sentence because I'm wondering how you know this? You can say nobody knew that Lillard would get injured but after that injury there was obviously some consideration that team as assembled was going to change.

Cronin new Dame was gonna get injured, waived, and stretched (pause) by Milwaukee? How could he know? He didn't. Lillard being waived is unprecedented.
But props to Cronin for swallowing his pride and capitalizing on the situation.

So yeah, he lucked into the situation. We all did.

I would hunt anyone who suggests we trade Deni. Legit hunt

We have the best package to give Milwaukee. Scoot and Shaeden would be gone. If I was Milwaukie I would demand both.

But we can make a deal keeping Toumani and Deni and it would still be attractive. Young players and picks.

If Cronin could pull this off I'll do a complete 180 on him.

I'm honestly not sure that getting Giannis is the right move. Athletic guys have a rapid decline in their 30s. He's paid a supermax. Scoot Sharpe will improve. We own 3 years of Bucks picks.

Might end up where Giannis is the least valuable of all these assets sooner than people realize.

According to this Dame is making 70 mil to rehab this year.

How are they getting to this 70M number? Lillard was waived and stretched.

113/5 = 22.6
42/3 = 14
22.6+14 = 36.3

What am I missing?

I love Giannis but I'd look elsewhere unless we can get him for a deal that is obviously very advantageous to us (we won't).

Yeah, I completely disagree. Imagine Dame returns to 90% Dame. Then you have:

Dame/Jrue/Deni/Giannis/Clingan

That would be absolutely crazy! So, if there is ANY way Cronin could make this happen he should.

I think all this Deni contract back and forth is kinda pointless. When he becomes a UFA one team can offer him more money over more years. If he turns that down that means he doesn’t wanna be here, at that point why would anyone care if he leaves. I’m also pretty confident Joe would figure this out before and trade him if Deni didn't plan on staying. I don’t see Deni lying to Joe about wanting to be in PDX just to leave for less money when he’s free.
I thought we can only offer more if he is a restricted FA. Unrestricted means we have no advantage against others teams. This seems to be the opposite of what you're saying here.

Am I wrong?

Y'all are in here TRIPPIN. How y'all sound saying you wouldn't go after Giannis if possible is just crazy to me.

Father time and an Achilles rehab is going to be more like 75% Dame. Which is still great. I love the signing. Just temper expectations.

Bucks will pay Dame 56 this year and 56 next
Bucks Dame cap hit is 23 for next 5 years
Blazers will pay Dame 14 this year and 14 next year and 14 two years from now if he exercise his player option

Which means that Dame's cap hit for the Bucks in these years is 18m

We can offer an extra year on the contract than anyone else.

I think hoping for 90% at 37 coming off an Achilles might be wishful thinking. I don’t even know how many 37 year old starting guards without the injury are currently in the league? Steph and Lowry? Am I missing anyone?

Yes - you are wrong.

Restricted Free Agency only allows the incumbent team the right to match a contract offer that another team makes - so the player is unable to leave for another team.

The RFA or UFA status has no impact as to what a team can offer a player.

The incumbent team can offer 5-years instead of 4-years that other teams can.
Also the incumbent team can offer 8% raises each year versus only 5% from other teams.

Deni will be UFA

We cannot match other team's offer

but

We can offer a 5th year while other teams only 4

So if that is the case, we still have an advantage

Deni must really hate us to accept a shorter contract with lower increases

Did I get that right?

The key word is imagine... See... You're lacking imagination. So Imagine my dream scenario for a moment K? This is contingent on Dame returning to form ala Kevin Durant.

well, technically he does not need to hate Portland, just need to think that playing somewhere else is worth the security and income risk, which can happen if he can overcome it with larger endorsement and the location is convenient (For example, the NY market offers much better marketing opportunities and is much easier for travel to his home country).

Thank you. It was the cap hit that confused me. Goddamn, that's a lotta jack!

You can go through all the trades and moves that you want. Fuck him. I don't like him. Let me have my opinion.

Edit: When has an NBA star the caliber of Damian Lillard been waived and stretched?

Right. Never happened before in the NBA. Cronin had no clue that was going to happen. He got lucky.

LMAO. This is so fn dumb. Cronin is a boss. He gets credit for what he's done, including having us in a position to bring Dame back.

Gotcha but I don’t wanna risk all our young assets and picks for Giannis if Dame is only “imaginary” 90%. We would need to see him play for 1/2 a season before pulling that trade or else we are just the Bucks from a few years back but older.

So dunc on podcast said the credit on Bucks cap is about 6 million this season - but it's not until the END of the season, so it helps with luxury tax or 1st apron but not cap space.

So it's $6 million (14-2mil)*50% but strerched over 5 years so a little over $1 million each of the next 5 years.

Next year Dame salary cap credit will be that similar 6 million but spread over 4 years thus about $1.5 mil. So each of those years have about 2.7 million credit or such on Bucks cap from both years credits.

Dame 3rd year salary wouldn't matter as his Bucks contract was only 2 seasons.

Giannis and Dame didn't win a chip with no bench in Milwaukee...what would gutting the bench in Portland change by reuniting Giannis and Dame? We don't want to become the Bucks. Right now we have great depth

Yeah - I don't think you can play a big like Clingan or Timelord or such with Giannis. He needs all 3pt shooters. So it would be a lot of moves to get the right supporting cast around that roster.

I'd love to add Giannis but when your talking about gutting the Blazers, where we are not an immediate contender, and we have lost most our youth/picks it doesn't sound as enticing.

I mean if we can snag him for a Durant like cost where we only give up #10 and Green&Brooks then sure. I think the Bucks are going to demand a haul and then I lean to no.
