Just like people think all Blue Note Jazz artists sound the same and that's ridiculous. Or all Atlantic Records R&B music from the late 50s to late 60s was the same.
We used to spin jazz discs and do the blindfolded, "who's the sax player in this cut" game late nights after gigs...I almost always won...Sonny Rollins was my x factor wild card ….I spent decades listening to those cats....whatever hip hop represents, it's art....it's meant to generate a reaction....on first listen sometimes it's not the same as after a few spins.

George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic are doing his farewell tour in Eugene next week...I might try and scare up a ticket...it's outdoors on the river at the Cuthbert Ampitheater..hands down my favorite concert venue

While rap music has continued to become more popular. Overall, the quality of good modern music has declined.

One important signal of modern musics decline is the decreasing % of radio stations that play it. More and more radio stations are changing to some form of talk radio to stay in business. (news, sports, political)

Modern music genre is now so fragmented, downloading your favorite music online is becoming the better option over radio stations. Not sure if this is a good thing for the financial future of music, or not? But at least I don't have to suffer listening to rap and the other bad modern music genres.

The main reason radio stations are moving away from music or just failing is because there are so many better steaming options out there now. Not because music is worse.

Agree, in part.

There are many better streaming options out there, for both music AND the talking heads.

More people are taking an interest in agenda driven talk shows, and listening to less music, regardless of the source.

Man.

I love confirmed. So many great tracks. So many memorable hooks and bars.

I listened to his new one last night and I dont remember any of it. Not even the beats.

All about the check (no Nike)

Bands still put out vinyls, so your attempt at snark failled.

Recalibrate the bot.
In the circles I find myself a part of I receive a lot of grief over the fact I just hate buying digital content. I have skipped out on so many things because I just dont like it.

Id pay more for a physical copy of a game, book, music, movie over getting the digital versions every time.

Can we talk about that album cover though ?

dame-dolla

This is gold :biglaugh:

Gotta go with Letter O as well. That cover fits the album perfectly.

He’d obviously say the same about all 3, but I’m a fan of the pictures and the stories that must be behind them. I guess you could say all album covers have a story to tell, but on The Letter O it’s like that album has plenty of them.

I didn’t read this thread so maybe it’s been addressed. When Uber riders play music in my car, it’s usually rap with heavy use of the n word. Does Dame use the n word or profanity in his rap? That would seem to be problematic since he’s a role model for kids. On the other hand, if he’s not using the n word, is that hurting his street cred? Too clean?

No.

And no.

Games and music I use so rarely that I don't really have a preference for physical copies. But books and movies o agree 100%. Books and bookstores have actually made a comeback in recent years (as much as bookstores could make a dent on Amazon's dominance). E-books have largely failed, or at least stalled. People who read books still prefer physical copies over reading on a digital device. This is ignoring the rise of audiobooks, of course

I get shit from pretty much everyone for still buying blu-rays though. Every Christmas my family asks "still collecting blu-rays?" And I say "yep!" Then they buy me the latest superhero or sci-fi movies. I think they're fine with it cause I'm pretty easy to buy for!

I will only read books in print.

Its not right to read a book on a screen.

This probably should be in the Salty Sunday thread but there is nothing more infuriating to me than buying a new physical copy of a video game. I want the physical copy because I don't like to use up the space on my system. Put in the disc and you have to wait for it to fucking download anyway. Then you get the error that you don't have enough space to play the game so you have to go through and delete a bunch of shit just to start the download of your new game. After that if you want to play one of your other games you have to wait for it to download again and and delete a different game. It's a vicious cycle.

Because some people still live in the 90's?

Well because some people still appreciate, like and look forward to the creative artwork that often goes into cd tops, covers, back and potential inserts. Not to mention the information that comes with it.
Some people like to be able to be unplugged listening to music and not be tied down to a phone, ipod or computer.

So if thats what you wanna call it? Im down with that. The 90’s fucking rocked.

So last night when I put in the disc for final Fantasy XV it made me download 70GB’s worth of patches. Took literally 3 hours before I could play it.

I have a pretty massive collection of physical games, and my wife and I enjoy collecting them. Also relying on cloud services and online stuff for all my content sucks when I am disconnected from the internet.
