watch Harden sometime...I've read that the saliva on the palm removes slippery dust from the soles of the shoes...still grosses me out..I've seen other players do that as well...chewing the mouthpiece is another very unsanitary thing to do ...it's like me taking out my dentures in a restaurant and hanging them out of my mouth while dining. For the record, it's an observation I've made that I don't care to debate

I watch kids do that 100x a game and don't lick before. That puts the dust on your hands. In all my playing years I've never done it.

dude...I've never licked my shoes in a game period...as I said it grosses me out but players do it
...it's not about you or your experience...you don't have to believe my observations...nor trust my memory..choices I found a video of Steve Nash wiping his pits with a towel and tossing the towel to Ron Artest and Artest wipes his face with the towel...Shaq was a hand licker....and also wiped his shoes

Yeah...no. Was very common when I was in high school. A little moisture on the soles--right on the balls of your feet--can significantly improve your traction. Quick start/stop, change of direction. Been doing it for decades.
