their problem is defense, terry stotts wouldnt fix that

other than that, you dont hire a head coach who will get dame lillard "right", you hire a head coach who can make them the best team in the nba (terry stotts as an assistant coach cause of dame lillard, okay, makes sense)

Congrats to Dame on the 3-point contest! Here's hoping he can turn it around in Milwaukee because it genuinely pains me to see him moping.
 
It's fun reading Heat Twitter tonight, which has Cronin trending as they continue to blame their bad faith negotiations on the Blazers GM not sending Lillard to Miami.

On top of that, anyone here remember when Heat fans were saying they didn't need to trade Jovic and/or Jacquez and the reports that said those guys might not have been offered to the Blazers initially anyway? I sure do. Well, now the Heat fans that said they weren't going to give up those guys for an aging Lillard are trying to rewrite history and saying they were offered and Cronin just didn't deal with the Heat for ... reasons.
 
I really can't find it in me to give a shit what Miami fans think; they're some of the most braindead fans in the NBA.
 
Dame showed he's still a fucking monster and hopefully the Bucks' coaching staff was paying attention because having Giannis run around 50% of half court sets makes absolutely no sense. If it's a fast break or a secondary break let Giannis push the ball (and he better be looking for Dame on the perimeter as a trailer) but if the opposing defense is set, run the pay through Dame every time with a heavy emphasis on pick and roll/pop with either Giannis or BroLo. This shit isn't rocket science and every time I see Giannis running the Buck half court sets it boggles my mind. Hopefully this coaching staff pulls their heads out of their asses and runs this offense in a way that maximizes Dame and takes nothing away from Giannis.

They are placating to him. It's stupid. He actually would have done better in Miami with the offense running through him.

I'm really just hoping the Bucks staff pulls their heads out of their asses... continues to push the ball on both the primary fast break and the secondary break with Giannis, make sure Giannis is aware that if they wall off that break he should be looking for Dame as a three point shooting trailer first. Then just do the sensible thing and run a ton of Dame/Giannis pick and rolls, a good amount of Dame/BroLo pick and roll/pops both that have that action as the primary scoring option and a bunch that have them as a decoy to get Giannis a bunch of opportunities to get the ball in great positions in both the mid and low post. The other play that has to be seen as highly effective is having Dame pull up from the logo a couple of times until the opposing defense starts to blitz him and then Dame just throws the ball up to Giannis and Giannis gets to run quick hitting plays 4 on 3.

I think the defensive problems given Middleton's compromised physical state and Dame's obvious shortcomings on that end are to be expected but with one of the best drop coverage 5s (BroLo), one of the best effort 4/5s on that end (Portis) and probably the most well rounded defender in the league (Giannis) they should be able to at least compete. That being said, the kind of offensive opportunities they have just by doing the shit that obviously makes sense should make them the best offense in the league by a wide margin.

I'm wondering what exactly was it he "chose" and what was the choice based upon?

and were there any choices by management in the 11 years he was in Portland that plotted a path to Dame's 'choice' 7 months ago?

I know plenty of posters here were really happy Portland 'moved on' from Dame (don't want to get bogged down in debating how 'necessary' it was). I wasn't one of them for a couple of major reasons. One was that it was due to a decade of totally shitty management by the Blazers. The other was that I knew Portland was headed for several straight years in the lottery and that was going to get old fast...and it has

Agree 100%. I was not excited about this, and I'm not excited about it now.

I don't have faith in anybody involved with the team (Jody, Cronin, or Billups) to make this team as good and fun as Dame made this team.

None of them are as good at their job as Dame is. Huge step down.

Agreed...

I think it's easier for some people to simplify situations to where there is one person totally at fault and another who is 100% a victim. For me, both parties (Dame and the organization) did things that increased the difficulty for Dame and the Blazers to have a championship contender in Portland. The semantics of who made the choice for the relationship to no longer be mutually beneficial doesn't seem that important to me.

Most importantly, he ate up a large chunk of the salary cap. Do I blame him for getting his money? Absolutely not. Did that decision hurt Portland's ability to surround him with the most talent? Yes.

A case could also be made about his reported desire to win with current teammates. This of course puts pressure on management to retain players, often above market value, to stay in Portland.
 
If Dame wants to call himself a musician he would never be bored watching TV and lonely. Any gazillionaire with time on their hands that claims boredom is just a victim of their own poor choices.
