Do you mean like Nas did last night? I am fine with SS starting, but it doesn't make any difference if he starts or comes off the bench....as long as he is getting minutes.
It does make a difference.

A calf strain in a different area. That is concerning. They really need to give him all the time it takes to fully heal. If the calf is hurt, the body has to compensate and it puts a lot of pressure on other parts of the leg.

he has to heal. it is clear when he is not himself

This may be a load management move to help jumpstart Ant after his sluggish start first 3 games..get his confidence at a high level and then bring Dame and Payton into the mix a couple weeks in.
I would be really surprised to see Dame use load management as a reason for taking time off. Dame just doesn’t strike me as the load management type.

It's not Dame who makes that call...it's the training staff...they've been quick to sit anyone who's dinged up at all.

He already did for the Pelicans game.

True. But, if he says he wants to play are they going to stop him? Not that he's going to.

The money he's paid and given his value he's worth to the team as an asset I don't think they're going to risk the more serious Achilles tear that can stem from calf injuries....I totally understand why they are sitting him....he's missed 5 games already and just came off a year without playing....now is the time to address any lingering aggravations and that's a good training staff....not a stubborn player....I think Dame is done with his playing through injury machismo after his last surgery. I want him peaking in March, not limping into the playoffs. I also expect a few players to be moved at the deadline and think now we're trying to showcase some trade value...

This also allows for a critical event to occur. Namely, the evolution and growth of Sharpe. Sharpe needs plays run for him. He needs touches and shots and to compete against the best. Sharpe is our future and actually our present. Sharpe’s growth is probably the single most important factor for us if we want to move from playoff team to contender. This gives us a chance to develop Sharpe while Dame heals up.

I want to see the team that went on the 4-game win streak last season. This season's team still hasn't found the groove that group did.
Better ball movement and Nurkic getting the ball on the move near the hoop were hallmarks of that team. Despite his size, Nurkic is a ball movement type of center, and backing his man in from far outside the hoop, which he can do, is not the best way to use him.
The best way to use Nurk is on the move, because his man will be trailing him and out of good defensive position.
Nurk is also hitting his 3-pointers well, at 54% this season, like he did during that 4-game stretch.
I don't have much faith in Billups but maybe we'll get back to Nurk beasting by accident.

Nurkic will never have elite or excellent speed for a center, but he does not need it, either. What he does need is (1) to be in shape, (2) stay healthy, and (3) hustle and dunk at the rim or finish while taking his time to shoot it.

If he played up to what he can, there would be fewer trade proposals.

theres no doubt that nurk will play great with bigger role

possessions are like fuel to nurk, give him possessions, hell be really active on both ends of the floor

"quid pro quo" as they say, simple as that

My favorite Greg Popovich quote, "If you want the ball more it's right there. Go get it!"

We played better without him.
Never thought I would/could agree with this, but I am afraid I do.
He aint right.
He may have the high scoring avg., but he aint Dame.
Hitting those deep three's where the roof blows off Moda?...Nope.
Dame is "BigTime".....But we haven't really seen it much. He's had glimpses of his Top75 self, but no way he can be considered a threat to make the AllStar game, this season, based on his play, and the play of others in the conference.

I think we got a taste when he had back to back 41 pt games but since then he's had calf tightness and shots are coming up short. Dame's also expending energy on defense this season which takes some of his legs away on offense...he's got to find the balance but I think it's his leg that's the issue for now.

These are the Blazers and Nurkic I want to see.
Nurkic is RUNNING THE COURT.
Nurk IS NOT the player who slows our offense down. He is absolutely a FULL COURT and BALL MOVEMENT player. Nurk can get easy buckets by outrunning his man, either in the full court or half court.
Forward to the 40 second mark to see proof.
What the hell happened to us running the ball like this?
Nurk is nearly un-fucking-stoppable in these situations.

Are you asking why a player who has been constantly INCONSISTENT his entire career, why he can't be consistent every night?

What's our record with him and without him?

Cool. Thanks.
You know if we all joined forces against this dude and not acknowledge, you think he'd stop? Or is he just joking with this post? Ask his friend for me.

I don't understand how people have such goldfish-like memories. You're absolutely correct he had two blistering MVP-level performances where he was fluid, smooth and hitting everything in bunches and controlling the game. That changed when he got his injury. They need to hold him out for like 3 weeks or whatever it takes to fully heal. Give his minutes to Sharpe and some to GPII when he comes back.

I laugh when people give up on dame.

Laugh.

A strange thing to find humorous.

Personally, I sadly chuckle at the magical thinking that Dame is the first and only player in NBA history immune to the effects of aging. :dunno:

For the record, I'm not saying Dame is "done" - but I have no trouble saying he is not the player he was 5 years ago, or even 3 years.

Not rushing him back is absolutely the right thing to do. I'm a little bit concerned that the way Dame was used in his career to this point is finally catching up to him and we're going to be dealing with a minor injury every few weeks.
