Dame is not expected to be at USA mini camp

Good deal. He's been incredibly healthy to this point, why tempt fate? He's paid big bucks to represent Portland and he has enough other outside distractions as it is. Playing for France got Batum some nice attention (except for the nut sack smack episode) but it wore his ass out and cost the Blazers in the long run. Fuck the Olympics. It's about bringing a trophy to Portland. Or at least having a healthy team making the effort....how many gold medals does a country need anyway?

Agreed but i wanna see at least one blazer play for the national team as well. Maybe Plumlee can... #DukePolitics

If at first you don't succeed, quit.

It depends on priorities. The NBA is a business and he's paid to play for Portland. The whole purpose of the team is to try and win league championships. I guess I'm not much of a patriot because I don't see why playing in the Olympics (for free) is such a big deal. As a Blazer fan, I just don't have a dog in that fight, even if one of our players was on the team. As good as teams from other countries have become, we usually kick the shit out of them and where's the entertainment value in that? And the risk of injury and fatigue aren't worth the return. Lillard just got handed the keys to PA's Cadillac and I'm sure he understands that. That is priority one, two and three. I'd prefer that kind of leadership.....

I just assumed he was saying that the selections for the 2014 FIBA team basically telegraph the 2016 Olympic team selections, so he's holding off on any team USA stuff until after the Olympics, and he'll probably make another run at it in 2018.

while on one hand I'd enjoy watching him get the press and hopefully gleam some stuff from playing on the team, on the other hand I don't care if he goes or not.

I want him to win a title for Portland, not the US.

So he didn't feel like he got better by competing in the camp?

Don't like the attitude, but it's not a big deal.

FWIW, Kyrie is expected to miss it because of surgery. Not sure if it makes a difference.

There is nothing Special in the Olympics. Dame has already won gold in the special olympics

It was made clear to Dame and the rest of us that the selection process is rigged when "injured and can't shoot, but I have a connection to the coaches" Rose made it in. Dame wouldn't get selected again this time, so it's a waste of time. Good for him for focusing on what matters and not on what doesn't.

While I want him to be heralded I can blame him for not going. It's a political thing. Besides, the team he plays for has as much to do with him not being selected as anything. Just kidding.... no I'm not.... no really, or am I?

Agree he's not going because of being cut over guys he outplayed. How does Rudy Gay get added to the team at the 11th hour after cutting players at his position? They treated Dame and others as scrub training camp practice fodder instead of having a fair chance to make the team. If team USA guarantees him a spot I bet he goes but no reason for him to subject himself to another unfair try out process.

I have zero concerns of wear and team since it's a 12 player deep roster. It's a way to improve skills and possibly get a leg up on recruiting a future teammate to Portland. Much different than Nico or other countries players where they are overburdened with big minutes.

I like Dame and believe he is right to feel hurt about being cut last season. However, he needs to keep these types of thoughts to himself.

Fans around the league are playing Dame’s quote as more baby crying. Dame is giving the knuckle-heads more ammunition, which is killing his public image. This is the third time he has publicly whined. Dame is turning his image into a bottle of Johnson's baby shampoo.

Dame needs to keep quit, or better, have a more diplomatic quote ready. He needs to be tutored by Neal Olshey on how to put a positive spin on adverse situations.

Yeah I kind of agree, reminds me of his letter after missing the allstar team. Probably best to take the high road.

At the same time I like the competitiveness of proving doubters wrong. I like that Dame puts himself out there both good and bad. Jordan would find motivation anywhere he could even when considered the greatest basketball player ever.

He was asked a question. He simply answered it. It's not like he brought it up himself and made it a story on his own..

Not sure what your point is. Dame is killing his own public image by what he says, not by the questions the reporters are asking.

As long as Dame keeps feeding the reporters juicy baby talk, they are going to go after him for more of these types of immature answers. And his public image will continue to be tarnished.
