Dame says to front office: Do what is best for the team.

What you think you know. Dame is too smart to provide an ultimatum like that. The situation is complex. We could be lowballed for Scoot, his value could grow exponentially this season, hell he could surprise us all and make the team way better.
I DO know Dame wants no more youth, or there will be serious discussions about his future

This Dame quote is a full reverse and either signifies that the team has finally done what Dame has wanted for so long and will land him someone he sees as on his level to play with at a position of need or that he's fucking done with this team.
I don’t like that it’s all text based. I wish this was a recorded interview.

Yeah we know Dame well enough by now (in interviews) that his tone of voice would tell us a lot. Also there's no way to misquote a recording... you can intentionally edit shit but you can't just make it up.

the timing makes no sense. Why request a trade before the draft plays out? Unless he knows we’re for sure keeping the pick
Probably just some guy trying to get in front of a story. I will say that if we are moving forward with Scoot, Dame would have already told the team what his positions is on that. If the team knows they are trading Dame it's better to lay the groundwork for that trade before the team we're trading with makes their pick or picks tomorrow so they can make them with us in mind... especially since if we're keeping Scoot and moving Dame we can expect a complete youth rebuild blowup.

What we know

Dame does not want out of Portland.

Dame wants to win a title

Dame does not want more youth

what we assume….logically

Dame will ask out if more youth

Dame is wrong thinking we have assets to turn us into a contender

Despite the roster, Billups isn’t the guy

Summary

Dame does not want to leave Portland but him saying he is not interested in adding more youth, and if we do there will be a discussion. That is Dame saying DO NOT USE THE PICK TO DRAFT A YOUNG PLAYER OR I WILL ASK OUT
That is your assumption. He said the same stuff last season and he didn't ask out because Sharpe is really good.

Winning a title isn't the most important thing. He wants to be on a team that is trying to win.

Just searched for Blazers.....

Nothing about that tweet pops up.

I mean what is the front office supposed to do if the trade offers are awful? I would still make the pick and then if the during draft or post draft offers are still awful, live with the consequences. Don’t sell the pick in a trade you don’t like just to appease Dame. Trust that he will understand what offers you got and that a trade could present itself later. My two cents. It seems like teams are trying to low ball Portland and I don’t want to take a low ball offer just to appease Dame.

I agree with this completely. I've been saying that if teams aren't giving you what you think the pick is worth there is always the nuclear option of blowing the existing team up for a youth rebuild around pick 3 and Shaedon.

I don't think threading the needle or more accurately splitting the baby is a good option or due to what Dame has said, an option at all.

did you see illmatic's post?

Yeah, until proven otherwise I think all of this is leaked to the media as a smoke screen to improve our position during ongoing negotiations in trades for pick 3/Scoot. That's just my gut feeling. I do not think that teaming up Dame, Scoot and Shaedon as your three most valuable players (as far as trade value goes) would be at all wise. We'll see what happens.

This quote? If you really read it it's clear what he's trying to say.

I don’t take a stance of power, I guess. If they ask me something, I’ll give them the answer. I’ll tell them what I really think. I’m not in there trying to make a decision or anything like that. I do my job. If something’s presented to me or a question is asked to me, I give an honest answer. I try not to be a part of the player empowerment because we’ve seen enough situations where guys who were at their peak and at the top of their game had that power and influence, and when they weren’t at that level anymore or the back end, people remember that.
