Dame's half brother Jahrell Lillard wounded in shooting outside Clackamas Town Center

This sucks. I just can't believe it when an argument escalates to gunfire. I don't know what the solution is, but at least we're having dialogue which is good.

The only reason LC gets a bad rap is because of the violence and drug activity in Holladay Park (and even that is hardly a regular occurrence) - and when it does happen, it is always between non-innocent parties. Never in my life have I felt the least bit concerned with my safety in the Llyod District. Anyone with the idea that it's some crime-infested area has spent little to no time there. Bad stuff can happen anywhere (like this incident at Clackamas).

I dont understand why the news has to include "half brother". I'd be a little irritated if someone said my sons are "half brothers".

How do you stick that in the head of those who have already made up their mind about this and more things? They just need the one incident to tell you ... "I told you so".

Perhaps it's to keep people from thinking it was Houston (the only Lillard brother I could name prior to this morning)?

It is an odd phrasing.

Kinda hard to do when the tread title includes the word shooting. Are we supposed to pretend this was just some unfortunate accident and no gun was involved?

BNM

Not at all. If the thread stays about Lillard's half brother being shot the thread will stay here. If it moves into a discussion about American gun laws and gun culture I will move it to the OT section. Those seem like two separate discussions to me. One related about a player on the Blazers and one that has nothing to do with basketball.

I can only speak from my perspective, and I've never thought of it that way. And remember, I grew up and live in one of the more racially-diverse areas of Portland (check the district demographics).

You're welcome to choose whether to believe me or not.

You just quantified black. In relation to MLK Blvd and selling drugs in that park.

If none of you have watched this guy, I would highly recommend Active Self Protection (ASP) on youtube. Some of it involves gun defense, but much of it talks about how not to be a victim, how to look for signs of aggression from someone else, and knowing when to avoid a dangerous situation. Most of the time it really is better to see signs of something escalating and just back away.

Lillard's sister, La'Nae graduated from high school either last year or the year before.

So Lillard's half brother is older than Lillard's sister.

The "MLK" comment was an acknowledgement of the possibility that racial undertones could impact someone's view. Connecting drugs to race is on you; when I think drugs in Holladay, I am more concerned with sketchy-looking scruffy white dudes and meth.

It is biologically possible for a woman to have a kid with man A, then one with man B, then another with man A.

Since the all have the last name of Lillard I'm guessing that Papa Lillard stepped out on Moma Lillard.

If it's like you said it was then Lillard's half brother wouldn't have the Lillard last name.
