Notice Damian Lillard Says 'Good Luck' to Warriors If Trail Blazers Get Carmelo Anthony

If we get melo we might have the inside track on lebron.

Just sayin!
Maybe trading Evan Turner and Collins for Wade in order to get Carmelo to want to come here in order to sign Lebron next summer isn't that crazy after all?

Yeah it is. But I think it'd have a 1% chance of working out, which is about as high of a chance as Lillard has of winning a championship with us.

Whatever the Blazer do they'd better save enough scratch to lock up Nurk long term....build it and they will come!

If you play great defense and don't outscore your opponent.... Mookie Blaylock, Tony Allen, Stacy Augmon, The Worm and Ben Wallace awesome defense would win 20 games. Bottom line you need to outscore your opponent which means a balance, over emphasizing either aspect is narrow sighted.

I loved Plastic Man's game.....shoutout for the Stacy Augmon nod!

Figured I'd post this here...

I was watching a National Geographic show about octopuses with my nephew yesterday and they were talking about how they can squeeze through anything bigger than their beak. They had a contortionist challenge the octopus and I kid you not they said that the contortionist "has been squeezing himself through tight areas since birth", Shit cracked me up big time.
Had to upload this for y'all

"Small openings" :biglaugh:

And we have offense

So you don't think defense wins championships?
blah blah blah, that's an over-used statement. You win by scoring more points that your opponent. Utah was the 3rd best defensive team in the league last year and didn't get far. It's not so simplistic. GS won because of their great offense.

GS is one of the best defensive teams. With Nurk, Portland's defense and record improved dramatically.

The Jazz made it to the 2nd round, upsetting a higher seed, and a better offense in LAC. Then losing to a better defensive team in GS.

Also not surpring that the 5 1st team all defense players are all on playoff teams.

Golden State has great ball movement which wears out a defense trying to guard them....their passing make the other team work twice as hard on defense...that and they have 4 starters who command double teams.....even good defenders have trouble with that team

Funny you say that, it's exactly what Stotts said to the announcers during summer league when asked what made the warriors so good, elite passing.

There's really no one thing that makes Golden State so good: they have elite passing, elite shooting, elite defense and a couple of great one-on-one players. That's why they're one of the greatest teams in NBA history.

I think some people are undervaluing melo. Less than average players play better with stars around them.
Many stars play below their optimal level when on crappy teams.
I think if melo joins us or another team with other stars, he will optimize his own play and take it to another level.

He's lazy. Don't like him.

Who exactly is better playing with Melo? From what I see, Melo doesn't elevate the play of anyone around him.

I'm saying I think he is the type of star that will better with other stars around him. Many stars are like that to an extent these days it seems.

So, Melo is a role player (who thinks he's a star) ;)
He and LA are the same sort of player - players who think they are stars, but who should only be a role-player on a good team...except for the fact that they don't actually do the things role-players need to do. This is the worst sort of player to hitch your wagon to.

Exactly. Utah is best defense in NBA. Got swept in 2nd round.

San Antonio's defense was better than the Warriors.

Very slightly. They were within a fraction of a point of each other. And San Antonio made the conference finals, so that's a data point in favor of defense mattering a lot.

I agree that the maxim "defense wins championships" is wrong, because you need both offense and defense, but defensive prowess does seem to be very slightly more important than offensive prowess. I recall Zach Lowe saying once or twice in articles that it's a little more common for a great defensive/mediocre offensive team to reach the Finals than a great offensive/mediocre defensive team.
