At this point I'd really rather we traded Dame. Nothing we can do will make us a contender and we'll just end up sacrificing youth and assets in a fruitless exercise. Rip off the bandaid!

Maybe, but it's also the young guys on the bench who are now trade fodder. In order to compete, the Blazers need a bench that has veterans capable of competing with the top teams in the league. Waiting for Simons, Little and Elleby to develop their games is not consistent with a title run.

Not really. Sure, Neil is mostly a cheapskate GM but when push comes to shove he knows how to make the big moves. He's been holding his cards close all these years and now he has to go all in and take the pot.

Honestly I love everything about how Dame is, including the fact that he hasn't done this stuff until now. Until now Dame thought if he did the right things himself and kept talking about how bad he wanted to win it all that Neil would get the message and Dame wouldn't have to tell Neil how to do his job. Now Dame rightly has decided that he is going to have to tell Neil how to do his job and if Neil won't, Dame will demand a trade and do it in a way that helps the team and is in tune with who Dame is.

Fuck Neil for making it come to this but I do think he has the ability to make the big trade or trades happen that will keep Dame here for the rest of his career and give us a legit chance at a championship. It's just a shame that Dame has to be the best guy and best player but that's not enough, he also has to babysit Neil and make him do his job.

I seriously doubt that anything but platitudes about improving the team get revealed to the public. I'd love to be a fly in the room though.
 
We certainly can take Dame off the list of people who don't think that roster creation isn't the problem.
 
James Harden basically said the exact same thing in Houston...not looking good for Portland.
 
We are in limbo, either Trade Dame for young players/picks to pair with guys like Ant and Nas(wish Zach didn’t bust) or trade those guys with every pick we can to pair win now guys with Dame. If he’s really the guy you do the latter.

No, that's Dame's friend. I'm sure in a not so round about way he's told Neil and is about to reiterate that CJ is not the right fit or level of player to help Dame win a championship while taking up near a third of the salary cap (I'm not saying team salary I know CJ is more like a fifth of that).

So, I'm sure it sucks to tell the guy that was your boss until you realized you had to be his to trade one of your best friends and get something that works but that's what I'm sure Dame is doing and that's not at all throwing CJ under the bus.

100% a fair/accurate critism of me! I promise you have emotion - you would see that if we watched a game together. On a message board, I try to lean on the fact based side because debating what other people are thinking just isn't my thing. I know my style grinds peoples gears and I'm trying to be better about it, but I promise it's not intentional to piss anyone off.

I appreciate you and everyone on here who agree or disagree. As long as it doesn't turn into personal jabs (I've slipped myself too), I think the debates are what makes this place great.

At the end of the day, 99% of us want the same thing!!!

We won't be in limbo for long. Neil will either make shit happen and it will involve moving CJ and picks (and possibly Ant and Nas) or he won't and Dame will ask to be moved before this upcoming season. Dame made it pretty clear. I bet he is giving the team until he gets back from Japan and if things aren't to his standard by then he will demand a trade and if the team fucks around with him after that he will make things clear to us and the media.

Well he just said that if he demands a trade it will be with Neil and it's not his way to tell everyone else... so unless Neil tries to pull a power play and tell Dame he's staying, I think Dame will keep it in house.

Harden went through two different major trades before he forced his way out. Dame hasn't got his first major trade so far.

Hey man, love the positivity but Dame just said that Neil isn't getting the job done and if he doesn't change his sense of urgency that Dame won't be here next season. So Neil has been fucking up. The positive thing is that Neil made the Chris Paul trade half a lifetime ago, so we know he can pull off the big trade and he better.
 
I do laugh that people thought he actually was gonna request to be traded in a few days.

Like, have you not followed this man for a decade? In one tweet people freaked out instead of giving the benefit of the doubt.
