Yeah but at what cost to his credibility and future clicks.

In this day and age? It probably doesn't matter.

The news cycle works so fast. People follow him and tomorrow there'll be another story. By the time "in a few days" comes and goes, no one will remember that he reported Dame was requesting a trade. No one will be going down their follow list to delete him.

I watched Dame's presser again. For those of you that think that he was saying that the team has until the beginning of the 2022-23 season to make the changed he's looking for... in fact if you think he'll be cool if we don't make a major move or moves by the time training camp rolls around... you need to listen to or better yet watch the presser. The word he used was urgent, he said, "this year it's more urgent" in regards to adding the players that make this a championship team. When asked if he was committed to the upcoming season he said that, "right now I don't know what I want to do." he then went on to say he would prefer and always wanted to stay on our team.

What I'm saying is that it is obvious from what he is saying and the fact that he even went this far in addressing this, that if he gets back from Japan and the direction of the team hasn't changed significantly he will demand a trade and expect it pretty immediately. We wouldn't hear that initially but if Neil tried to make a power play behind the scenes about Dame being under contract... then I think in a very classy way, Dame would go public.

Here’s what was just told to me

Take it with a grain of salt, but he nailed the assistant thing and the Lionel Hollins interview thing, so…..

1. Chauncey and Neil did indeed talk to Dame. The plan was for Chauncey to lay out how the current team would have played against Denver. How the offense, with more ball movement will help Dame, along with defensive strategies

2. Neil was to lay out how he plans to improve the roster with a type of player, rather than specific names. Also a clear plan moving forward

That’s what I got. No idea if that’s what happened, or how Dame received it

Sorry to piss people off with vagueness, if people don’t want this type of info, which is all I can get right now please let me know and we can all wait for more clear info

I know some of us will make jokes at people with sources occassionally, but, at least for me, I always appreciate any tiny tid bits people receive and choose to share. It at the very least gives us something new to speculate on. So please share away.

Thanks for passing this along. That all makes sense.

I like this kind if info, so please continue.

I am curious as to what "type" of player he's targeting, but imho, that seems to signify they aren't making any major changes (outside of losing Powel via FA)

No idea

Neil’s plan probably revolves around landing Aminu and Tolliver.

That’s his M.O. and you should totally expect this type of movement from Neil John Nash Olshey.

We lose out on some ability to salary match by losing Zach, but I also imagine we keep most of the core, Dame, CJ, Nurk, Roco, and the type of player is a Jrue Holiday style trade, giving up salary matching and future picks.
But yeah, as to the "type"...who knows. Smallish scoring guard, offensively limited wings seem to be the Neil special, so...

This you?

Sources that I know telling me Olshey is going to step down soon. Heard it here first

Well guys we saw it coming. I told you guys over and over throughout the season and the past.

But that Denver series was the last straw. You just can’t lose to the Denver B team like that and not expect huge backlash. Sad but Dame deserves a better franchise. Been told ya that.

I will root for Dame. He deserves the best.

Henry Abbot is actually from Portland (ouch) and a big blazer fan. This is legit. It’s over Riverman. You can’t lose to the Denver Nuggets summer league team and not expect huge backlash.

The thing I want to know about that meeting is whether CJ’s future with the team was discussed. Is Dame okay with trading him for a player who’s better fit? Does Olshey plan to keep him and is Dame okay with only marginal roster changes? Just how much “urgency” does everyone really have?

Salary matching would be very hard while keeping that core in tact.

while I love Damian and would hate to see him go, he is 31 and a point guard, very few point guards have been able to lead a team to championship. If he wants out at all I think maybe we should just do it while his value is the highest. Maybe not I have not idea what to think but what we are doing now is not working.

Yup it’s win win really. He leaves ah well. We get stuff back. He stays then we must have done something right. Plus he’s getting old anways

fact is , if he is legit about making some moves to improve, he's likely gonna need to wave adios to some of his friends.
get him involved, try n make it work
if he buys in, awesome. if he is being a prick he can maybe just embrace the loyalty 'grind' elsewhere.
as long as its not ben fuckin simmons coming back, im open to listening.

i hope he can get the involvement he's looking for and we can make the moves happen, god only knows its been the goal for a long time, just executed rather shitly.

We obviously need some quality two way players. What none of really know is what Billups and whatever defensive assistant can do with the current roster. Can some accountability and a decent scheme improve the current roster enough to make a difference?

In 17-18 Portland was 6th in defense with the same 3 and better defenders, but virtually the same roster construction. No reason to think Dame and CJ won’t turn up their defense to even where it was then under Billups.

Kanter and Melo are shit defenders, so replacing them with people who try on defense probably moves us into the teens from last in defense

I agree with this but is that enough to appease dame? I feel like he knew we over achieved with that group and knew we still needed to upgrade and never did

to be precise, if you're gauging by defensive rating, Portland was 8th that season....but for your larger point that's essentially the same thing

I disagree though that the roster construction was the same. Yes, there was the Dame-CJ-Nurkic trio in place, but the supporting cast was simply much much better at defense.

the year after that 8th place finish in defense, Portland finished 16th. and there were really only 2 changes to the roster: one was replacing Napier with Curry which I'd say was a push. The other was replacing Ed Davis in the primary rotation with a combo of Meyers and Kanter. That was a massive downgrade in defense. Davis was integral to that defensive rating in that 17-18 season

Blazers also had the starting forward tandem of Aminu and Harkless. Both long and agile defenders. As a defender, I actually think Aminu was as good as RoCo. He probably wasn't quite as good out on the edges, but he was better at defending size and a better defensive rebounder. And Harkless was a much better defender than anybody Portland had on the wing this season, other than RoCo (and that includes playing the 6'3 Powell out of position at SF)

and when the Blazers brought in their bench unit, besides Davis, Portland had Turner, Zach (who was welded to davis), Napier, and Connaughton. Blazers just didn't have anybody like that this year, except for maybe Jones (didn't see enough of Little). Even down the rotation, Connaughon was a much better defender than Simons

the offensive strength of the NBA is at wing. That 17-18 team had 3 solid wing defenders. The current Blazer team has 1, really. But more than that is a team needs two-way players at wing and Portland has none
