Dan Gilbert rips Lebrons Asshole

Oh, I'm not defending LeBron. But there are higher standards for owners than for players, and the fact that he'd put this message out suggests that maybe his judgment is impaired in other issues as well.
Say what you might about Paul, I don't think he'd ever attack a player, no matter what the provocation. Nor would most other owners in the league.

I agree but PA might if your superstar quit on you in game against Boston in the playoffs. He ripped off his Cavs jersey as he was leaving the stadium. It just pissed me off and I'm not even a fan or anything to do with the Cavs.

If your going to leave your team and home just leave don't go on TV and make a complete ass of yourself and the NBA. It was a joke!

Gimme a break about how Gilbert winds up empty handed, that he put up with countless miseries and LeBron left him with nothing. Fuck that.

Do you realize how many sold out games LeBron James created for that team? How much merchandise revenue he generated for that sad sack piece of shit organization? How many playoffs would they have even been in without LeBron? Fuck, the guy was personally responsible for pretty much every job created in the city of Cleveland for the past 7 years.

How did Cleveland land LeBron anyway? Was it careful planning? The culmination of years of internally developing elite athletes? Positioning their salary situation to set up the perfect storm that got them LeBron? Oh yeah, that's right, they completely fucking tanked for an entire season because they had no better strategy than to lose a shit-ton of games, because that's all they were good at. Then they got lucky enough to get the right ping pong ball. Brilliant.

Gilbert, if you want to write a sneering comic sans diatribe to "somebody" to blame, write it to yourself. Kobe and Jordan and Karl Malone had exactly the same sized mega asshole egos that LeBron has. Did those guys whore themselves out to the highest bidder too? No, because THEIR TEAMS GOT THEM SOME GOOD FUCKING TEAMMATES. After seven seasons, the best you came up with were Mo Williams, Larry Hughes and Antawn Jamison. Gee. I wonder why he left.

Now James is on a team with goddamned Wade and Bosh. Who the fuck is going to beat those three all at once? Couldn't you at least contain the massive failing that is the Cleveland Cavaliers to Cleveland? Thanks for fucking it up for everybody.

I didn't see that (had a failure to care about the playoffs this year). But still, if you are an owner you gotta be an adult about it, unless your name is Cuban. You've had 7 years to get to know him - if he's such an ass (and I fully believe he is) then trade him. And if you choose not to trade him, then you gotta take what comes.

Conversely, IMO, if Lebron hadn't gone "NATIONAL" with his over-the-top decision, I doubt Gilbert's diatribe gets written/published.

Yes. But he's the adult. It's his job to act like one. If you choose to put up with crap, then don't complain about it later.

He lost over $100 million in a single day. People have committed suicide for MUCH less reason. All he did was write a RANT. Your condescension is no less ridiculous than his rant.

Serious question: Exactly how much money has the Cavs made in the last 5 years? $100M, $1B? I don't know, but my guess is that they've lost $ like most teams have.

I think, for Cleveland fans, it boils down to one thing - LeBron held a nation wide 1 hour event to to tell them "fuck you." What LeBron did today was extremely hard core. And super, super fucked up, IMO. He should have signed with another team in the style that 99.9% of FA's in NBA history had done. Just sign. He's a fucking ass. And he's going to pay for it. You think the Blazers have bad Karma? Oh boy. Oden might actually get healthy because all the shit Karma is on Miami now. With that in mind, hell - thank you LeBron!

Oh definitely. LeBron comes off as a mega douche in this whole event. I feel bad for the fans in Cleveland. (I feel bad for anybody living in Cleveland just on pure principle.) I don't feel bad for the owner, though. I hate it when somebody has a massive failure (seeing LeBron leave) and does nothing but point and cry about how he's a victim.

LeBron made Gilbert an insane amount of money. Gilbert let LeBron down by not putting the pieces in place for him to succeed. Boohoo, Mr. Gilbert.

+1 rep

What a selfish coward. You had him for 7 years and couldn't do anything.

Remember when Shaq was yelling at Buss during games, "Pay me!" Buss sure was entitled to say some things after he dumped him, but didn't.

No one ever agrees with me, but I have always thought that Shaq is the biggest ass in the league. (In more ways than one.)

The program tonight wasn't originated by LeBron, I'm sure. ESPN just saw a ratings bonanza and asked him to do it. At the same hour on CNN, Larry King was interrupting his show to show a month-old interview he did with James. So ESPN wasn't the only one.

PA and the Vulcans have their own bad karma to overcome

Condescension? I don't see see how that applies here. I criticized his RANT. One way or another, he screwed up to lose $100 million in a day. Either he put his trust in someone that he shouldn't have put his trust in, or he was simply clueless. Neither reflects well upon him. Even if LeBron is utterly evil, it's Gilbert's job to figure that out and act accordingly.

I read Lebron asked ESPN to do this the Decision fucked up show and of coarse they could make money so they agreed.

Shaq is a mega ass (in more ways than one) and you're right that ESPN probably suggested the whole thing, but for somebody to not possess enough self awareness or sense to understand how this might come off is the kind of person I'd like to sell a bridge.

Actually, I have no idea. I assume the Cavs were a pretty profitable team because of all the sellouts and national tv exposure. It's pretty hard not to be profitable when everybody wants to see you.

I'm sure the asset of the Cavaliers franchise drastically appreciated in value as LeBron continued to play there. Of course, now that they've fucked that up...

I'll add my +1 to this. I have no problem with Miami, I actually like the Heat. But I can no longer think stuff like "Kobe is an ass, he should be more like LBJ." So, a small but important part of me has to hate Kobe a little less and that's the real tragedy here.

No, LeBron's camp came to ESPN. At least that's what I heard.

Why have they said all day that the show was originated by LeBron and his "people".

You could be right, but several teams had to take "loans" from the league a short time ago.

I have a little more sympathy for Danny Ferry tonight.

Dan Gilbert 4 President and Blazers owner!!!!!

Btw, I wonder what it's like to have an owner that will send out a public statement to the fans.

Hmmm

Lets see how that letter plays out if he ever is in position again to sign a free agent.

Well it was a ratings bonanza for ESPN. So if ESPN management didn't have the idea, they should be fired. You're telling me ESPN just lucked into a good programming decision made by outsiders? (LeBron and his advisors)

That's like Phil Jackson winning the championship using plays designed by the players. Who needs the coach.

If it's true that LeBron staff originated this very successful idea, it's a rare event in broadcasting.
