Watching that replay... There was 1.7 left when he coulda fed Stauskas... probably enough time.

No way could he have gotten it to Nurk though... that'd of taken some contouring of his body and to somehow get the ball to him.

And with Nurk having butterfingers all game (great stat line, yes) it'd of been iffy if hed of gotten it off in time.

Yeah in hindsight I wish he would have shot a floater or a step back where the ball at least had a chance to go in but I can always live with Dame's decision making.

Watching the recap, it is PAINFUL how bad Dame's defense was on the final Wiz possession in regulation. No screen at all and yet BOTH Wall and BEAL ended up somehow being WIDE OPEN!

That is either horrible preparation/defensive fundamentals by the players and the coaching staff....or the players are just flat out ignoring the coach. Either way, that might be the worst defense you will see in the entire season in the entire league. No screens, no cuts, no jab step.....nothing. And yet the only two players that touched the ball somehow both ended up with no one anywhere near them.

Dame carries a lot on his shoulder for this team but he has to own that D....completely awful. He leaves his man to run at Beal (who is being guarded just fine by Aminu) and then completely flies passed Wall leaving Aminu in a 1-on-2 defensive position. Aminu should have never left Beal (D'uh) as Wall wanted nothing to do with that shot but he was put in that position by Dame.

It is still stunning how fundamentally poor that was and brain dead at the same time. I know...it's one game and you move on but that is something you wouldn't see in most high school games. It should NEVER happen in the NBA the way it did.

He shouldn't have even been on the floor for that defensive possession. Or Aminu, tbh. He might be our most versatile defender, but he routinely blows assignments and loses track of his man/ball. His BBIQ is in the toilet. How many game winners/clutch shots have been hit on him the last three years? Blake Griffin/Yogi Ferrel/JJ Redick/ Karl Towns etc etc. It's no coincidence.

Not only did Stotts not play Collins against Morris for the end of the 4th quarter and during OT, this was the final lineup at the end of the 4th when Beal hit his game typing shot.

Turner
Harkless
Aminu
Lillard
McCollum

3 of the better Blazer defenders combined with 2 of the....shall we say, more defensively challenged are on the court. If you put your best offensive players in for an offensive possession, why not have your best defensive players in on a defensive possession? Dame and CJ (no matter how much we like them on offense) have little business being on the court for a defensive stand even if they are somewhat improved. Not if you are doing your best to win.

Now if you are placating a star's ego, that is another thing....but then winning is no longer the absolute priority.

What's your best 5-man defensive alignment in that situation? Baldwin, Turner, Harkless, Collins and...I think you still have to go with Aminu.

Turner and Harkelss for sure as they're our two smartest defenders. Collins is climbing up there too because of his mobility and size. I just don't trust Chief. I wonder if Stauskas can be trusted to play good team defense. Man, this roster is so flawed-- so many holes everywhere and the guys who might be capable of being good defenders just don't get the reps to earn trust from the coaches (or refs, probably. Hence the Baldwin doubt).

Probably even though certainly in Baldwin's case, experience/reps would be an issue. That said, can you imagine a way to play that possession worse than Dame did? I suppose he could have fouled Beal in the follow through but that rarely gets called in that situation if it is after the shot. Collins ABSOLUTELY should have been in there so either Harkless or Turner could have been on the perimeter.
