Most of Nurks points come in the offense, and while I don't know exact stats I'm confident that he shoots a higher % on shots in the offense than he does on post ups. If you go back and watch the games since he's come here he has shown a good ability to play back to his basket, he has also shown that he has room to grow there. In fact he missed his back down attempt late in the 4th tonight.
That being said I do agree he should have a higher volume of those looks. I just won't be expecting him to be as efficient there as he is off the roll.
ThisIt's not about Nurk's looks and shots, it' s about the team's looks and shots. We simply get better shots when Nurk is initiating the offense. We shoot a much higher percentage when he's finding guys rather than Damian or CJ are finding guys.
The team is so used to Dame and CJ taking every shot they've gotten into the habit of actually believing it is a good thing.
Well, we have a below .500 record to show for the Dame/CJ show so I'm really hoping they make some adjustments to this offense. Dame had 26 shots and CJ had 20, but you know they used even more possession than that with free throws and whatnot. Next highest shot attempts was 9......
Isn't this the job of the coach? I feel like the kids are running the class right now, and teacher is just quietly humming in the corner.

Yeah, I think so, but Dame and CJ have been given so much freedom to do whatever they want stemming from last year.....it's going to be difficult reeling them in. If you think about it, they've pretty much gotten away with playing no defense and taking all the shots on offense for two whole years. Now we have a shiny new toy that can make the team better but requires some adjustments in playstyle by the two guards and they don't seem to be handling it the best. Then again, it's only been 10 games, so we should give it some time.
The question is, CAN Terry reel them back in?
What an odd little thread. Nurkic was limited to 29 minutes due to foul trouble.
Dame and C.J. scored 65 points on 46 FGA. The PHO starting backcourt scored 47 points on 47 FGA. Our starting guards shot 24-46 = .522 FG%. Their starting guards shot 20-47 = .426 FG%. Clearly we had an advantage and exploited it and got the win. You go with what's working.
Nurkic is averaging 12.7 FG/36, third highest on the team. Seems about right for our 3rd option.
His USG% of 23.7% trails only Dame (31.1%) and C.J. (27.7%). Again seems about right for a 3rd option, especially one who doesn't even know much of the playbook, yet.

Frankly, I would rather he touch the ball significantly more. Let the offense flow through him. He seems to be MUCH better at finding the open man than either of our two guards.
It may seem that way, but his AST% is 21.2%. Lillard's is 28.1%. Plumlee's was 21.3%.
Nurkic is a great and willing passer and that was a pleasant surprise, but he doesn't set up his teammates more than Dame and his TS% is lower than both Dame and C.J. Right now he's a GREAT 3rd option, something this team sorely lacked before the trade, but he still turns the ball over way too much (twice as much as Dame and C.J.) to run too much of the offense through him. I think what we're seeing now is a good mix, and that will likely gradually increase as he becomes more familiar with his teammates and our offensive sets, which will hopefully help him cut down on the turnovers.

I think the turnover and asst% will improve as he becomes more familiar with our offense and with his new teammates. It's pretty remarkable how well he has done in such a short time.
This, I think Nurk has only one move when he has his back to the basket.
You gotta be kidding me... I know you watch the games...
Personally I'd like to see Nurk at 15FGA depending on the game.
Idk maybe I'm forgetting others but with his back to the basket I only remember his drop step.
What else does he got? Maybe I'll remember if memory is refreshed.
I might just be blinded by his passing so I don't remember his back to the basket moves.
I don't want him to be number one in shot attempts. But I do like ball movement and good things happen when he is part of that.Frankly, I would rather he touch the ball significantly more.
