On Saturday, the Blazers' general manager will enter a six-day window during which he and his front office staff will need to decide whether to exercise team options on guard CJ McCollum, forward Thomas Robinson and forward/center Meyers Leonard, three of the team's budding young talents.

Olshey prefers to handle his business behind closed doors and has not publicly addressed the players and their team options since media day on Sept. 29. That day, while speaking generically, he said he would use the preseason to evaluate the trio, then announce decisions on the options no earlier than Oct. 25. The team must make decisions by Oct. 31. It used to be that team options on rookie contracts were no-brainers and GMs would almost always rubber stamp them on the eve of the regular season, waiting only that long to ensure no one suffered a major injury.

Freeman guesses we will exercise the options on CJ and Meyers and not on T-Rob due to the cost of his draft selection slot.

Will the Blazers exercise his option?

No. Because he was drafted No. 5 overall, his team option would cost the Blazers $4.7, and that's simply too cost prohibitive for an organization that will have a lot of contracts to settle next summer.

Does this mean the Blazers are giving up on him? No. Even if they don't exercise his team option, they can re-sign him as a free agent next summer to a deal that is equal to or less than what his option would be.

I actually agree with this course of action. Let TRob stew a bit. Maybe he will come out with even more to prove and a bigger chip on his shoulder.

All those comments about TRob make sense to me and I have expected that to happen based on his draft selection.

Long as he doesn't make any problems sulking and creating Drama then he will be just fine.

and be stuck with his almost 5 mil salary next year? rather spend that on a solid vet

I would not be surprised to see T-Rob not extended and traded during the season, he is a nice chunk of expiring contract with some potential to prove himself to a new team. I suspect that this article is on the nose.

I doubt the options get picked up on most of these guys because I believe we have their bird rights next offseason.

Leonar_ has shown nothing to warrant a contract extension
Last two seasons I felt the same way but this season he's made a case for being a keeper. Yeah, I'm as shocked as anyone but he's not going to break the bank for what he brings to the table

I don't really care how its done, but I'd like to keep T-Rob out of the if it really came down to it.

Excercise the option on CJ. Re-sign T-Rob as a free agent and drop the Meyers Project.

Nah. They will not give up on Meyers yet. Look at what he did last night. I know it was Preseason but he was hitting from all over the floor and even put in a nifty hook that was money if he can get it to go all the time.

Size is hard to give up on. Just look at you know who a few years ago.

The cost to keep Meyers from a financial standpoint isn't much. And is lower than missing out on him breaking out this season and leaving.

But will we have that though? Won't we be over cap?

Regardless, I think we will still hold T. Rob's bird rights right?

I was thinking the same. T.Rob and Leonard haven't shown enough for me to feel they can eat our cap. CJ still has hope, since last season he was injured

I still have questions and concerns with CJ. But he has shown signs. I really hope just continues to improve and improve this. The bench and team needs this to happen.

Quick question, if you don't pick up the options, do you hold their rights at free agent time?

I think so...

Honestly I'm not a fan of picking up any. Make them all expirings and trade them for someone that can help us now.

I like t rob, but I wouldn't spend 5 million on him.

I'm off the Cj bandwagon, I think the people's champ is better.

Extending them is the cheapest easiest way to fill out the roster, with the exception of Trob.
