Decision Time On Options for CJ, Meyers and T-Rob

Wait so the 4th year option means he played for our team for 3 years, allowing the bird provision right?

No, he's played for our team for one season. His rookie year was split between SAC and HOU. We picked him up in July, 2013 and he played the 2013-14 season with us. This will be his second year with us, and his 3rd season in the league. By declining his 4th year option, he becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2014-15 season. We retain no Bird rights of any kind. The max we can offer him in free agency is equal to the amount of the option we just declined. Of course, we can always offer him less. Someone else may offer him more, but unless he shows some significant improvement, I mean has a real breakout season, I don't see that happening.

So if TRob blows up, max we can offer him is a deal starting at 4.6mil per. But it can be for multiple years.

I don't think is big news at all.

How can u tolerate this? We're surrounded by people with Leonard's understanding of basketball. Apparently two of them are our coach, GM. I don't know what to make of this.

Sorry, but this breaks my heart. I can't understand this, just can't.

He's a low IQ hustle player who plays the same position as one of the best players in the league at that position? The roughly 5 million he would count against the cap could be the difference in bringing in a final piece this offseason? What's not to understand.

Nobody's with me on this? Remember what we thought of the Rockets letting him go? What changed?

T-Rob's low IQ is so much higher than Leonard's it seems like you're joking. Probably higher than Stotts' and evidently Olshey's.

If the dude is worth bringing back he'll be back. I'd rather have that extra 4 mil to throw at a max level player.

I made no reference at all to Leonard. I don't see why that is relevant at all. Thomas, is that you?

Than what changed? Isn't the rationale is that the wizard of Oz finally gave Leonard a brain and now he's a basketball player? Cause if you believe this story than I can really start counting on miracles.

I like T-Rob - but it is clear that the FO has a plan and they are going to execute it to the best of their ability within the rules. It seems that T-Rob is just a casualty of this. Would he be nice to have around? Sure, he is a good kid with great energy and real NBA skills (rebounding, speed for position) - He is also a big number going against the cap for the time when the FO has financial flexibility to determine the looks of the team for years to come. This seems like a very reasonable business decision.

CJ: Meyers, they exercised our options, YES!

Meyers: Hey TRob, what about you ... oh.

IMO you are making way too much out of this, we all have our opinions on how good he is and might become, I for one agree with the decision

Jeezus, it's not like the guy died. We didn't cut him, trade him, waive him, amnesty him, force him into medical retirement, Gillooly him, etc. He's still on our team. All we said is, hey TRob, you haven't shown us enough to justify a $5 million salary and cap hold. You've got another year to show us what you're worth. If you do, we'll offer you what we think you deserve.

Remember, he's on a rookie contract that is based entirely on his draft position for his first 4 years. He was drafted 5th, but he hasn't performed up to his draft position (need proof, just take a look at who was drafted 6th in that draft) and the Blazers aren't willing to pay him like he has. Smart move on their part. Make him prove he's worth that kind of money.

Business decision my a**. This is a pathetic decision in every possible way.

If TRob is the deciding factor on our success this season or long term then we have much bigger trouble. Im glad he is on the team this year and hope he plays his way onto the team long term but it was smart decision for the team, not him. There is no such thing as a perfect world

Perhaps, if the coach, GM, and the fans all disagree with you, maybe they're not the ones that are wrong?

BNM, Bird Rights follow in trades. He'll have been in 3 seasons without a loss of Bird Rights (for instance, if he'd been waived). We'll have Bird RIghts. They won't help us, though, b/c his cap hold number (as I read it) is the 0-6yr max of ~15M.
