How many of the last.. 10 championship teams had an elite rim protector playing 30+mpg?

2? The 07 Spurs and '11 Mavs?

Don't give me bogut either cuz his ass got benched. Don't give me the Celtics either because there defense was predicated on KG LOCKING down the pick n roll, additionally, the PNR is the most frequently used play..stop or slow that and you win games. That's what the Celtics defense was predicated on.

Don't get beat on the outside and you don't need someone to clean up your mistakes.. I'll concede we don't have the wing defenders for that..yet.. but rim protection is becoming less important because the evolution of the game.

probably better add Bynum to the list with two rings and a runner up

My point is that it's way too early to panic, or to even have a reasonable idea of what the final product will look like, however...

I think LMA is going to require us to do step 3 before he will do step 2. So essentially those have to be reversed.

How about this:
(done) step 1) Remove all large contracts from the team, while getting young "high upside" players.
(working on it) step 2) Getting a highly thought of player on our roster (via trade or FA) forming a "Big 3".
step 3) Get Aldridge to sign
step 4) spend $$ to make the pieces fit.


we're working on step 2, and many are bitching that we're not done with step 4! Give it some time. The good news is that summer league will come soon and be a pleasant distractor.

Bynum and Gasol on those championship teams were arguably the best rim protector tandem in the league. I think both had more than 2 blocks a game.

As for GS.... The championship wasn't just the last 3 games of post season. Bogut was #2 in the entire league for FG% at the rim. They relied heavily on Bogut, and mainly the threat of Bogut down low, to help them on their #1 defense in the league

You've seen the stats that they are about the same, if not better, defensively playing small ball, right?

I'll give you the Lakers though. But offensively I'd say those two were far superior...so the last consistent team to do it was the Lakers

Getting better defensively is on Stotts, he has a good vase of players with defensive potential.

Still if we are gonna contend we will need some size that has been deep into the playoffs. Assuming Aldridge comes back of course.

I think a good start would be a major block buster type trade where we take on a lot of salary but it can be expiring salary.

Portland: Joe Johnson and Roy Hibbert

Indiana: Gerald Henderson and Chris Kaman

Brooklyn: cap space

Then we can go out and sign Aminu with the full MLE.

Fill the rest of the roster with vet min guys like Ish Smith, Francisco Garcia and Greg Stiemsma

Lillard / Smith / Frazier
Johnson / CJ / Crabbe
Aminu / Connaughton / Garcia
Aldridge / Leonard / Vonleh
Hibbert / Plumlee / Stiemsma

Certainly better defensively than last season.
