Definition of a Real Blazer Fan?

I honestly think there is certain levels, as far as being a fan goes.

Some people are just casual fans, and will occasionally watch the games that are nationally televised, don't really follow any off-season news, don't know much about the players personal lives.

Then there are the hardcore fans, who not only actively try to watch every game, but will complain when none of the pre-season games are televised. :) They hang out on a forum all day, waiting for the latest Blazer news, and know far too much about the players personal business.

And like you said HCP, on a more basic level, and this applies to me as well:

If the team wins, you as a fan are overjoyed. But if they lose, you're bummed out.

There's nothing wrong with being emotionally invested in a sports team. There damn sure isn't anything wrong with backing up the team or it's players when someone tries to drag their names through the dirt. I just don't see where some "fans", get their sense of entitlement from.

Certain poster(s) feel as if the team, or even Greg Oden himself, owe them something because they've been let down at one time or another.

Wow! You sure have come a long way since that SHITTY first post you made. Man was it SHITTY!

Um. OK.

Ed O.

he just rips on the sonics fans all day all night. saying about how he was able to easily get courtside tix to their last game ever, etc. i guess im skewed, he said seattle fans and UDubb fans are weak too.

Haha.

Yeah. That, or you're always too busy hazing the new guys to read the content of their posts. :p

Someone who is extremely passionate about the team, regardless of how their outlook of the team is.

Some people see the glass as half full, while other people see the glass as half empty, but in the end both want a championship more than anything.

Me for instance can't stand Nate, and think he is the most over rated coach in the NBA. Yet I want the team to win a title as much as someone who thinks he is one of the best coaches in the NBA.

I'm not a fan of either of those teams. :)

I think if you've fantasized about the drunken revalry you will partake in once the blazers do win another 'ship, then you're a fan.

True fan: You must own a minimum of three Blazers jerseys.

Fortunately I own 4 that I can think of.

Damon Stoudamire
Rod Strickland
Derek Anderson
Stacey Augmon

I wish I had bought a Pippen jersey. I actually had a Kenny Anderson jersey until I traded it for Damon's.

I have a Jersey curse, everytime I get a jersey, they get traded or injured.

Dunno who my next jersey will be. Maybe a Matthews or Batum...maybe Batum. I like the jersey shirts, you don't have to spend the money for a jersey and can wear them around town without looking like such a douchebag.

You guys might laugh at the jerseys I own......... Sheed and Bonzi!! Just keepin' it real!

I can't wear jerseys anymore. There was a time, but now they're just way too out of style. Especially football jerseys. How many fat bald guys wearing Cowboys or Steelers jerseys are there?

I actually have some pretty cool jerseys put away though. I have an Iverson jersey from Georgetown. I have a Grant Hill jersey with the original Pistons colors. Penny Hardaway, home Magic jersey. Sam Cassell with the Rockets. I've got about six Duck jerseys. I can't even remember all the players. I have a couple Jerry Rice jerseys, and a Steve Young. There's a bunch more. I've thought about selling some of them. Wonder how much I'd get...

not much. just save them. I think my best is a signed Drexler USA Basketball jersey. I don't wear jerseys either, but I like to buy them.

I came across some Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlin jerseys from the 80s a while back, all L*kers. I was too lazy to sell them so I just gave them away to some of my friends.

I have 3 Roy jerseys, LaMarcus Aldridge, Greg Oden and Damon Stoudemire.

I try to only buy jersey's of players I'm pretty sure will be resigned. Haha.

Because almost immediately after I got my Damon jersey, he left the team. >_<

I have a Fergie Jenkins jersey. Stupid Cubs traded him.

Owning a Stoudamire and Anderson jersey, but not a Pippen jersey, pretty much disqualifies you from true fandom.

Seriously, Derek Anderson? The Derek Anderson era felt it was like 10 minutes long and he had a toothache for at least half of it.

Well, I got Damon when we first traded for him..... and regretted it.

I got Anderson when the red jerseys first came out. I think that was the year he hit that game winner (against Seattle?). I don't know... I guess I hoped he would be the player he was for San Antonio, but he never was.

I still think the Augmon jersey is sweet.

I agree with you. Poor man's Pippen. Well, homeless man's Pippen. Okay, nothing like Pippen. But I loved his defense.

And I can understand the optimism when Portland acquired Stoudamire and Anderson. Both seemed like exciting players at the time.

Then I suggest you immediately go out and buy an Oden jersey. Double curses don't exist and you may very well reverse something.

Double-rainbows, however, do exist.

Somebody who jumps on the bandwagon when a team starts winning.. :ohno:

already have one + the Jersey shirt.

Shit, that's more than half the Blazer fanbase. Not everyone can claim to have stuck with the team through the low points of the early-to-mid 2000's. I was in that arena. I saw how empty that place was during the Telfair/ZBO/Ha era.

that is honestly one thing I am proud that I can say for myself. I was there in the early 90s for high points (although I was little) I was there in the mid 90s for mediocrity. I was there in the late 90's for success, and I was there for garbage years and all the empty seats. I just wish those bandwagon bastards would leave now so it wasnt so effing difficult to get single game tickets without having to do season tickets lol.

Did you actually just say "Ha era"?

I would say the Ha era was definitely a lowpoint, wouldn't you? :)

Wheels, I can honestly say that the mid-90s were some of my favorite years BECAUSE they were so unpopular, yet they weren't that bad. I loved the team when they had Kenny Anderson, JR Rider, Brian Grant, Sheed, etc. That team had so much potential that hadn't been realized yet. I can pretty much pinpoint when the fans started jumping on the bandwagon after that. When we traded for Damon the team started being acceptable.

I don't know if anyone else remembers this or experienced this, but when I was in middle school/high school from like 93-97 it was completely uncool to wear anything Blazers related. I actually have a shooting shirt from that era and whenever I wore it people would say "the Blazers suck!"

I miss those two-fer Tuesdays. Two tickets for the price of one. Sooooooo awesome.

I actually STARTED rooting for them in that era, which is even harder. I had just moved to Portland, and wanted to be able to actually root for the team in my city, so though they sucked, and I didn't like any of the players, I became a fan of the team.

+1

I loved that team. Having a team of goody two shoes is boring as fuck.
