You guys are all clinging to the notion DZ is worth much more than he is. Maybe they could've gotten a little more, like a pick or prospect, but I think this move could help some. At least we don't have to hear or speculate about trading him anymore.

The bottom line on Del Zotto is that while he has some physical gifts, his hockey IQ is low (and has shown no signs of improving), and his offensive game seems to have peaked (and that peak isn't very high without a good shot from the point and constantly missing the net).

While this trade doesn't seem great now, I don't think it's going to come back and bite us.

Nashville has set themselves up with a nice young d-core now. Jones (19), Josi (23), Ellis (23), DZ (23) and Ekholm (23) to go with Weber (28).

Forget about the value. DZ has been bad this year so he does not have much of value to begin with. Bottom line it sounds like it may help in short run but it's another quick fix type of deal Glen likes to make mid-season. Nothing new here.

It's not really quick fix, Klein's signed for 4 more years so if he fits well it's a decent depth signing. Unless you packaged DZ with Hagelin and a prospect this was about all you could hope to get.

The bigger issue is that all of the trade ideas made here and the rumors out there for scoring or anything else for that matter revolved around DZ. Whether it's DZ/Hagelin or DZ/Miller or whatever, it was always DZ as part of the package. This deal limits what we can do in terms of acquiring scoring.

With Carcillo around until the end of the year, I could see them dealing Dorsett for salary relief with a prospect/pick for a forward. At least he's signed for another year.

2012 1st round Skjei...who the fuck knows

Oh well, don't like this deal on its face but will wait to see for myself what klein looks like as I have no idea who he is. But if he sucks this is what you get when like a lot of us said when you bench del zotto every other minute and give the impression that he is total dogshit. Oh well, I guess del z's blown coverage on the face off the other night on the game winning goal was the straw that broke the camel's back as they say. Would have liked some draft picks but with how del z being used that wasn't going to happen. Unfortunately, before the trade our team needed a big strong scoring wing or a physical d-man and after the trade our team needs a big strong scoring wing or a physical d-man.

Until McIlrath comes up Klein may very well be the Rangers toughest dman, not saying much. The deal probably boiled down to AV not wanting MDZ here, I think it was a bad trade unless Glen/AV had no intentions of making MDZ an offer. At least the Rangers have 3 dmen signed for next year.

And I agree with you on Klein. Adds a potentially physical dman that we clearly needed, and he is a righty shot which is a plus.

We'll see how it turns out. No doubt this deal is a risk IMO. Now we wait...
