DeMarcus Cousins to Golden State

Oddly enough, that's precisely what one poster is kvetching about over in the Seth Curry thread--that if he returns to his 16-17 form, we won't be able to keep him beyond one year. But it's intended to keep teams from circumventing cap rules by convincing players to sign vastly below-market deals for one year just to get bird rights, and then signing them to a huge deal the next year.

That's actually what CBA FAQ #33 talks about, how the Blazers did precisely that with Chris Dudley back in 93-94, and why they updated the CBA to require 3 years before full bird rights are earned.

Ok, thanks for correcting me without being an asshole about it :-)

ahhh Jesus this is too much :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

A cynical take: What if Boogie is struggling with rehab and is not really going to contribute this season? GSW is letting him rehab on their dime, in the hope that if someone else gets hurt late in the season, Boogie will be able to contribute a little down the stretch. Boogie only cares about getting healthy and getting a big payday next summer - so even if he *could* play, why rock the boat?

A team as rich in assets as the Warriors can make that sort of move. For a team like the Blazers, it would have been stupid.

The Blazers did the same with Ezeli that didn't work out. This one will. He'll be ready for the playoffs.

Cousins said he'll be ready for training camp as far as he's concerned.
It's the Warriors that want to rest him until January.

Basically it's similar to what Wes went through, when he wanted to get back ASAP.

They don't really need him until playoffs anyway. They will give him around 25 games towards the end of season to integrate him in the team and that's all for regular season IMO, no need to risk his health by playing him early. KingSpeed is the only person in the world who thinks they will struggle to make the playoffs.

I really don't see a better move for Cousins here either. This is the only team in the entire league thta will not desperately need him to contribute in 2018-19. Anywhere else he went he would be expected to provide productivity and help them win which could only hurt his stock ahead of 2019 free agency.

So follow me here:
The Lakers fuck the Pelicans by signing Rondo.
To do so, they renounce Randle. The Pelicans respond by signing Randle. To do so, they renounce Cousins.
Cousins signs with the Warriors. To fuck the Lakers.
No Doubt You have detective skills.

Zach Lowe said on his podcast the S&T we were working out for Cousins was about 12-17 mil. And "that was real." It was a 3 yr deal, and the last two were non-guaranteed.

Well, that definitely rules out CJ as the one going back to them.

If this is true I hate Neil even more, who the fuck gives up a promising player like Zach for possibly 2/3 of a season of a gimpy headcase coming off an Achilles tear....wreaks of desperation if true.
No kidding... makes me sick that he is prioritizing CJ ahead of Zach... Neil is so stubborn and unwilling to break up Dame and CJ, and would rather throw away the teams future trying to force it to work than admit he is wrong

I heard that the Blazers were trying to sign Cousins to a 3 year deal but the 2nd and 3rd years were non-guarantees/team options. So it wouldn't just be one year of Cousins, plus we'd have his bird rights if he stayed all 3 years. Not saying I'd want to do the trade just trying to supply all the information.

Oh please, give me a break. Zack hasn't proven a thing, and you act like he's already the next Dirk. I want Zack to be awesome too! But he ain't there yet, and if this is true, NO tried to do what you asked for. Acquire a big dog. You're talking out of both sides of your mouth. Quit complaining.

A big man with a history of being a malcontent and coming off an ACHILLES injury isn’t what I’d consider a “BIG DOG” which is probably why there wasn’t interest from NO or Hou or others.

I see flashes of good play from Zach, but I’m not nearly as hyped for him as others seem to be. He literally averaged 4 and 3 this year. He’s got a long ways to go, and a lot of work to do. He definitely has potential but if you can get a proven player for him I’d still do that. Going young sounds great but a lot of young players don’t make it, you end up going through a lot of guys to find the ones who do get there.

Oh, but the WORLD CHAMPS seem to think otherwise.

I’d trade him and CJ for Kawhi on an ext in a second, but i just don’t see the plan with Boogie and Nurk here if that really was the trade, we gonna run twin towers with a couple centers who don’t compliment the others game?

Funny how some want to run the "proven commodities" out of town for maybe's.
