Politics Democrats have owned this state for decades - what do we have to show for it?

Am I supposed to come up with a solution to a problem that was created by the Democrats? Does that make any sense?

So they fuck it up, they have had decades to fix it, and you blame Republicans for not coming up with a solution to the problem?

Edit - I'll rephrase this - PERS has been around for a long time, but we have known about this issue for decades. It was clear that the system was going to be overtaxed because of the baby boomers, and nothing has been done to fix the problem. And during the past 30+ years the Democrats have had the run of the house so it was on them to come up with something.

You're on some other shit right now. First off, I don't want republicans to do SHIT in this state. Period.

Secondly, I'm asking you not to complain about the problem but instead come up with your suggestion of how to fix it.

Until then you're just complaining. It's really that simple.

It's easy to point at the helicopter in the tree and say the pilot fucked up. It's harder to figure out how to get the pilot out of the tree...

Why should we elect someone else to fix the problem if they have no idea how to do it? Is the goal fixing the problem or punishing the D's?

If your stockbroker loses some of your money, you don't hand the rest of it to a homeless guy on Burnside and tell him to invest it for you.

Sorry Nate this is a stupid question.

WTF does EVERY politician say to get into office?

"I'm gonna fix the shit that the other side fucked up and this is how I'm gonna do it..."

It’s annoying that we (meaning people) stick with things - laws, amendments, programs, etc- even though the world and it’s people change. Maybe the entire PERS program initially was great. It ain’t working now. Maybe the 2nd Amendment was created with guns that shot one bullet at a time in mind not AR15s. Soooo let’s change those things. But instead both sides sit around and say but but but that’s the way it’s always been so we can’t change it.

Our education in this state SUCKS
Who’s been in charge for the past few decades?
It AINT working

Funny how people want to fire Stotts because the team can’t get over the hump but the state ranks 47/50 in education but hey let’s just keep doing what we’re doing.

The problem with our schools lies in how they are funded.

Whoever the fuck decided we should pay for schools with property taxes was a fucking idiot.

I was a Junior at Cleveland HS when measure 5 passed.

Why don't y'all look at that funding cut?

Why don't y'all look at the fact that the funding was cut to ALL of our PPS magnet programs.

MFs will complain and say the system is broken but not say shit about teachers having to purchase supplies with THEIR money?

The way we find schools makes it so the school in the neighborhood that has the most 3 car garages get more funding than the ones who have more apartments.

It's fucking stupid.

I wish I could like this post more than once.

I remember my teachers buying supplies with their own money in the early 60's.

Difference was they didn't bitch and whine about it, even though they were paid peanuts compared to teachers nowadays.

If you think teachers would complain to students about spending their own money on their students..
Then I have a timeshare in puerto rico to sell you.

You want me to come up with a solution?

Okay. You bitch about racism in America. Come up with a solution. 1....2.....3...... Go!

Naw! It doesn't work that way. Look it up,

Basically the State sets a target per student amount to spend. Then funds each district the amount needed to meet that spending goal.
The actual contribution is per district after their local property tax contribution is considered. The State then kicks in the amount to reach the per student spending.

You will not be able to find the numbers, but the state spends far more per student educating the immigrant students than it does educating the Black students in Multnomah county.

The big receivers are the low tax base counties with the large immigrant population. They have a large student population compared to the value of the local tax base. Most of the Multnomah county districts receive the least funding due to high commercial tax base and a lower number of students per the local revenue base.

You will probably not be able to find the numbers but I am sure the State spends far more per student on the immigrant students than they do on the Black students in Multnomah county.

I've said multiple times how that problem can be fixed but people like you don't listen.

I've ALWAYS said that people like YOU need to LOOK INWARD at your own privilege. THAT'S how we START to end racism.

Now, all you had to do was answer the question about a program you want to simply eliminate instead of figure out. All you had to say is just like most republicans, I don't have a fucking solution.

In closing, say smart things and make sense when you post.

LOAD. OF. CRAP.

See, now I'll risk the insult rule and simply call you a dumbass.

Wait. So democrats are pretty much in control of this state. Have been for years. And the answer to “our education sucks, we need to fix it” is supposed to come from Republicans? Whyyyyyy do we have our lord and saviors Kate Brown and Kitzhaber and their teams in office?

I would think if I was into politics at the state level, like wanted to be Governor, I would have a handful of issues that are must-haves to focus on and improve. Education, homelessness, public safety, infrastructure to name a few. Literally all of those suck in Oregon. Suuuuckkkk.

Maybe it’s time to change it up?

If you have a workable plan to address those things, and you run for office, I will vote for you.

ITS NOT MY JOB. That’s the point. People who choose to make it their job and SUCK at it should be told to leave. I love living in Oregon but for fucks sake our politicians are embarrassing. Literally should be ashamed of themselves. But nope. We just keep on voting them in because the letter next to their name is a “D” not an “R”.

If SOMEONE has a workable plan to address those things, and that SOMEONE runs for office, I will vote for that SOMEONE.

Clearer?

I think I wasn't clear. How about this:

If SOMEONE has a workable plan to address those things, and that SOMEONE runs for office, I will vote for that SOMEONE.

Clearer?

barfo

Ok. What if the someone you voted for was given years to show progress and didn’t? You vote for Kate Brown this week? Why?

Because the alternative offered was worse.

Saying there are problems and therefore we should 'change it up' doesn't make sense in a vacuum. There has to be some rational reason to believe that the change is going to make things better rather than worse.

And let me be clear too.
I don’t vote Trump. I think the entire current White House sucks. I lean Democrat. I miss the days of having a smart and aware President like Obama. He’s a great man.
But holy shit Oregon. We have riots in downtown and police watching. We have tents everywhere. Our education is 3rd worst. And people keep voting in the same failures. Kate Brown sucks. Period. What’s her plan?

How do we know? What did he say or do that leads you to believe it was guaranteed to be worse? We don’t know. He’s a republican? We do know what we get with Brown. She’s proven herself to be inept. Knute is far from my ideal candidate. But sometimes change is needed.

katebrownfororegon.com (or some address like that).

Knute didn't propose workable plans to address the issues you mention, therefore I see no reason to prefer him over her on those issues.
Change isn't a solution. If the team is losing, should Stotts have Meyers play point guard? It would be a change, and sometimes change is needed?

If the current point guard is Chris Kaman then yes. Let’s not act like Kate Brown is Lillard in a slump.

PERS was created in 1945 by a Republican administration. It was modified in 1970 under Republican governor Tom McCall.

I say we start by putting ourselves in the shoes of someone else. I, for one, would not like being referred to as 'boy' or being asked what I'm doing here or 'sorry, you resemble someone else we're looking for", "Did you know you're taillight is out". "Do you mind if I look inside your trunk?" etc., etc.

If you got "republicans need to fix this" out of my post, I question your reading comprehension.

This is a really stupid post. Really...

Not your job? But it's your job to complain?

The idiocy of this post is that I didn't even vote Democrat in 2016.

I did vote for Kate Brown. Knute Bueler had his sights on cutting my son's healthcare. Easy choice.

I'm also a registered Independent...

WTF makes you think I'm Democrat?

Really quick @calvin natt and be truthful:

1. Did you vote for Knute?

2. Do you know what his plan was for Healthcare and PERS?

3. Without Google, what were those plans?

I'll admit I don't know what Brown's plan for PERS is, but frankly it doesn't fucking effect me at all. I also wonder who the Hell in here it really effects.

I DO know she will protect my son's healthcare.

Knute wanted to cut it.

Sooooo no solution?

Well, a good start would be to dump the entire Dem party in Oregon, since they created the mess, but there's no easy solution other than slashing huge numbers of administrators, teachers, prohibiting any extraneous expenses such as travel, employee education...and then stand tough the next time negotiations come around.

It will mean forcing a teacher's strike, then replacing them all with new teachers who will accept a less ridiculous retirement package. Like Reagan did with the Air Traffic Control Union.

It's easy to point at the helicopter in the tree and say the pilot fucked up. It's harder to figure out how to get the pilot out of the tree...

Gravity will take care of it.

Sorry Nate this is a stupid question.

WTF does EVERY politician say to get into office?

"I'm gonna fix the shit that the other side fucked up and this is how I'm gonna do it..."

Trump said that, then he did it!

When he's done being President I'm going to ask him to run for Governor of Oregon.

If you think teachers would complain to students about spending their own money on their students..
Then I have a timeshare in puerto rico to sell you.

Saying it's not a big burden or anything.

Teachers make more $ than 90% of their students ever will. That's how bad our public school system has become.
