I don't think they can't trade a player for just cash. A player for a pick and cash can be done if the other team is below the cap or has a trade exception. Speaking of which, the Nets can use one of the trade exceptions to claim someone off of waivers--they did it a few years ago when they picked up that guy from Detroit, who was upset by it.

Right, but Thorn wanted to use Campbell in the playoffs (although NI believes that it was just setup all along). He just whined about wanting to finish his career with the Pistons and didn't want to get into shape to play for the nets--they placed him on waivers as some administrative move, I can't remember the details.
