<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (NetsDaily)</div><div class='quotemain'>In an interview with the Nets’ Matt McQueeny, Gana Diop says he likes the team: “I feel comfortable here. Being here, being with coach, real cool, teammates are cool. I feel pretty good being here” and he thinks the team has potential, too: “I love the team. I think we could have made the playoffs but we were in a tough position with a trade”. However, he says what all free agents do, “I’m just going to do what is best for me and my family” and admits returning to the Mavs is an option.</div>

Desagana Diop Interview - Matt McQueeny - New Jersey Nets

Good for him, for doing what's best for him and his family. I'm assuming that means he'll take the most money offered to him. If so, with the Mavs way above the caps, I'm guessing he'll be staying close to home.

I don't mind overpaying Diop because that then leads to better stuff in his homeland. He's a great player and sounds like a great person as well.

I don't mind paying for Diop because we need his rebounding, and solid defensive fundamentals.

I hope we don't just let him walk, we could use him in a S&T at least. TOR could use him, we could package him with RJ in a trade to them, or maybe just straight up for Kapono.

I don't mind overpaying for Diop, cause he can be Horford back up that we desperately need.

I think we really should keep him. He's part of us being the "younger" team that we are, and he and Harris have good chemistry together obviously. He's good on defense.

Keep him, but don't overpay too much. A little overpayment won't hurt, I guess.

a 26-yr old 7-ft, 280-lb space-eater with a 7'7" wingspan and a 9'5" standing reach who rebounds and blocks shots and has a reputation of being a good guy with a good basketball IQ...yeah, we need to at least match whatever offer he gets...but maybe put a condition about maintaining a certain weight...

When's the last time we could say that? I know what you're getting at but unless he gets a silly pay day we should strongly consider bringing him back if the offer is reasonable because Diop is another solid bigman who at the very least could be a real nice trading chip down the road or be the backup we need in case Sean never gets his act together. Stro is a temporary piece and while Boone and Diop could make for a nice rotation at the 5 spot until we get a semblance of what direction this team is moving in.

Boone, Swat, and Swift bring the same skills to the table as chop-diop. diop is the best rebounder of all of them tho so thats why i wouldnt mind seeing boone traded and keeping diop

Why restrict it to basketball?

^ come on now. swift is a retard on the court but you have nothing to suggest he is a retard off the court with his money as well. either way, he's making more money then either of us ever will

If the Nets were willing to pay Magloire $4 million, they will probably offer Diop $4 million but for how many years? Dallas COULD offer him $5.5 million, the MLE, but would they give him the full MLE when they are looking to re-do their roster and have no first round picks and no LLE? They are in cap hell right now and will be for the next year or two.

He might opt for returning to Dallas even if the offers are similar or less, but I doubt it. He may never have this opportunity again. It's more likely someone else might offer him more than Dallas can. You read bloggers' comments around the league and lot of them think their teams should make an offer.

And do remember, while he is a solid defender, his career high after seven years is NINE points.

I'll agree with the OP that while I want him back it wouldn't hurt too much to lose him to free agency. He does defend well and is good with the put backs. He just isn't a perfect fit with the team and is limited offensively.

Yes, both can dunk.

right now the only bigs worth keeping are boone and diop - one is a space-eater down low and one a pick-and-roll type player and both can rebound and block shots...i'm hoping SWat can turn into a leon powe or brandon bass in terms of activity around the basket offensively...and that krstic returns to his old form who can hit the perimeter jumper and has effective post moves down low...then try and entice amare stoudamire to play for the nets (when he opts out in 2010 because he wants no part of the rebuilding suns) with the opportunity to play with the king, lbj!

amare - starting pf;
SWat - utility guy; pest down low who gets offensive rebs and putbacks (leon powe-type)
boone - double-double guy (haslem-type)
diop - space eater; shot blocker (mutombo-type, except for the space-eating part though players tend to stay away from his elbows)
krstic - starting center; offense (ilgauskas-type)

I thought I was the only guy with dreams/delusions of an Amare/LBJ/DH34 team. Although I was thinking of throwing everything we could at PHX in a trade. RJ+Diop+Marcus+our next 4 1sts for Amare+Barbosa. I think we can trade our next 4 1sts, because we have the Dallas picks. then re-sign Boki, draft CDR, use the MLE on a point or trade Krstic for one.
Harris/???
Barbosa/CDR
Carter/Nachbar
Amare/SWat
Boone/Swift

yummy.

(it's too late to be posting, I'm too mixed with a dream state)

Thank You!
Perfect words to describe Diop! A solid defender...he is not great defensively like some here view him...but he's solid.
He is also offensively challenged and <span style="font-size:18pt;line-height:100%">the single most overrated rebounder by a lot of members of this board</span>.

His career best season rebounding was 2 seasons ago in Dallas when he averaged 5.4 rebounds for Dallas...this season with us he averaged only 4.5 rebounds...not that much.

Honestly given how many people hated on Jason Collins I'm really astounded how much love there is for this guy...Collins is a better defender than Diop, a better rebounder and better offensively...don't get me wrong I hated Jason Collins and his contract but it seems like a lot of posters here seem to think Diop is worthy of another bad contract.

Reality Check...he's not.

Diop is extremely young though, and as we've seen over the past few seasons, he's very capable of improvement...to the point where he could be better than Jason Collins. I still wish Jason Collins was here, though...defensively, Jason would be the perfect teacher to Diop and Boone.

I'm also wondering if Krstic could somehow be a young mentor to the younger players, offensively. Maybe it's possible he could teach them some post moves? Eh, maybe we should pick up a vet offensive post player. Krstic has too much on the table as it is.

I wouldn't call 26 extremely young...if anything he is just entering his prime and really doesn't have much room for improvement.
