I want to pass Phoenix but I want to catch Denver while Melo is out. Help!

If we want a shot at the division title, we root against Denver and Utah everytime!

I'd root for Denver until Phoenix is well enough behind us in the standings.

Rooting for Phoenix. Denver is a division rival.

How about you root for the Blazers... Blazer fans root for the Blazers... don't root for other teams, worry about what Portland does, and not so much what anyone else does.

root for the suns to lose so kerr will make another desparation trade that makes them worse in the long run

I'd say root for Phoenix, I don't like Denver and they are in our division. We should root for Utah to lose every game too, not a fan of those guys

Why? We want the Blazers to be the most successful, therefore, we should root for teams that could help Blazers in the standings.

Why? Root for your team, and let all the other teams duke it out. Do you have some special "rooting force"? So when you root for Phx to beat Denver they magically do because of your powers? No.
So let's just be Blazer fans!
Don't wish misfortune on the other teams, wish fortune in the blazers! (well said, huh? :p )

Would you like home court in the playoffs?

We need a top 4 record to get homecourt. We gotta pass Phoenix to get that. Winning the division doesn't necessarily give you homecourt.

....I think I'll stick to wishing fortune on the Blazers as well as misfortunes to the other playoff teams.

I think a new banner would look nicer by winning the division title

Understood. Absolutely. BUT I'm an NBA fan and enjoy watching non-Blazers games. It's a big league with a lot of fun teams and a lot of fun games. Plus, I want to scout the teams. And watching a game isn't as fun if I'm not actually rooting for a team to win. Sometimes, if I have trouble, I root for the most exciting situation. Earlier, I rooted for Derrick Rose to make the game tying FTs even though I love Cleveland because I wanted to see a game winning shot from LeBron or an OT period.

Another example: sometimes I root for streaks. When Boston was winning, I wanted them to keep winning and break records. But when they started losing, I wanted them to keep losing because it was such a great story, the collapse of a champ.

Why? You want the Blazers to make the playoffs because the rest of the teams suck? (not saying they do, but based off what you've said you wouldn't mind if that was the case). If the Blazers won the Championship because all the other teams were .500 teams, that wouldn't be much of an accomplishment.

Don't care. If the Blazers win a championship that way, then so be it. Won't make any difference to me. I just want another championship.

Nah that'd be lame. And sense ESPN already has an east coast bias, they wouldn't consider the championship an accomplishment and would spend weeks and weeks debating whether they should be considered a legitimate team

Dude. Here's the deal. April 15th. 2009. Tax Day. Let's say the Blazers, having played a great season, are 49-32. And let's say the 51-30 Rockets are playing the 49-32 Mavericks at 5pm PT. And we're playing the 53-28 Denver Nuggets at 7:30pm at Portland.

The Blazers and Mavericks are tied for the 8th spot with one game left. While we played a great season, we did not secure the tiebreaker against Dallas. And so it goes: to make the playoffs, the Mavs must lose and the Blazers must win. Will you wait til 7:30pm to turn on your TV and watch the Blazers play? Or will you watch the 5pm game and root for Houston to win? Because our game means nothing if Houston doesn't win. Don't you watch BOTH games and have a rooting interest in Houston?

I hope we have a better position on the last night of the season, but it could go down just like I described. Don't you root for the Rockets to win?

decaf...try it

Ideally here is how you want to root:

1. Root for whatever team is playing Denver or Utah - except Dallas, unless Dallas is already too far out.

2. Root for every team to beat Dallas, except Denver or Utah - unless Dallas is gaining ground.

3. Root for the Lakers against every team that is in the playoff western conference playoff race. No one is likely to catch the Lakers at this point and them beating the competition only helps us in our own seeding.

Our best bet now is for Dallas to continue to lose ground, Utah to remain in the 8th seed and for Denver to lose some ground to us with Carmelo out for a while still.

Well done.

A Championship is a championship. Who the fuck cares if people debate its "legitimacy."

Phoenix just got jobb'd by the refs.

This is the second game in a row I have watched of Denver where the refs basically gave them the game at home in the last seconds of the game. Way to make the home cookin reffin work NBA!! You should be sooo proud of yourself. Next thing you know the crab dribble will be legal, because only one person can do it.....:devilwink:

I saw that too. The Ref was looking right at Grant Hill when he had the ball in the last few seconds of the regular period against Denver Thurs (1/15/09). Grant Hill got tripped/tangled up by the defenders feet and a foul should have been called against Denver. Gross call Ref's. I believe there was like 8 seconds left in the game when Hill got tangled up.
