Johnson at least projects to be a useful backup. If you're going to talk about cutting him and adding an experienced big man please for the love god at least talk about somebody who isn't a walking fossil. I love Howard's hard fouls and his professionalism, but to suggest that he provided much more than a leader and a warm body seems pretty ridonkulous, especially when you look at his on-court, off-court numbers from last season.

Camby is this year's Howard, except he is still a good player. This team didn't and doesn't need Howard, who is a class act, but who isn't going to help Miami at all on the court.

Problem is you guys are all talking about long-term signing. Maybe not a couple of these choices, but guys like Dampier aren't going to sign for a small one-year deal.

This whole "sign a big man" is like having your car in the shop getting a fan belt replaced and then have your wife's car get a flat tire and you don't have a way to work that Thursday, so you're looking on craigslist to buy a used car to get you through the week.

For crying out loud, Joel is looking more and more like he'll be back after the first week or so of the regular season. Oden is already playing in intense full-court practices and dunking and is almost game-ready and likely will not miss more than 10-15 games. Just rotate Camby/LMA/Cunningham through the PF and C spots and each would get 32mpg and are better than 50% of the league at those positions. So this isn't something we need to go sign some 3-year contract to plug.

Worst case just sign Steven Hill or some D-Leaguer and have them plug Pendy's spot until we get Joel. Done.
