Do you like projects around the house that will help keep you busy or do you prefer hiring someone to do them for you?

and do you do them.....naked?

asking for a friend...

As with all thinga I prefer to do them myself. If I can make more money working than it costs to pay someone I'll consider hiring someone if the final result doesn't have to be perfect.

Even if something I do myself doesn't turn out perfect I can accept that because I did it.

I wont do electic or heavy duty plumbing, but ill attenpt most of everthing else. I hate all the house shit i do..... but ive done a lot. Bought my first house at 24

I always have a D.I.Y. project or three going on.
But in my case D.I.Y. = Destroy it yourself.

If there are only two ways to do something, the right and wrong way, I usually can get it right on the third try.

Heck it never becomes fun.

I'll do shit myself, and sometimes I'm even pleased with the results, but only because I take at least 20x longer than a professional would.

And yeah, 3 trips to the hardware store is an absolute minimum for me.

It is fun, doing that tile accent wall was fun. Especially considering it was literally the first tile work I've ever done.

If the materials weren't so expensive I'd do the entire main wall in the great room/kitchen. I figure 3000 for tile at list price and it would probably take 3 weekends.

Tile work is one of my on going projects at the cave. I am installing porcelain floor tile in every room, the only way to go with active dogs that play inside.

For those who have never installed tile, there are a million steps to make it come out right, such as leveling and preparing the floor.

This is back mud room into my cave.

In which room are you going to put the blazer logo into the tile?

You should rip that mud room door out and center it with the tile pattern. Kidding mostly, looks great.

We do have tile in all of the house except the bedrooms. Frikin dogs.

Agree, but that is the least of my problems. This is a very old house that was added onto three times. The owner thought he was a handyman and did his own work. Or maybe he was just cheap and did everything himself. Nothing lines up, is level or square in that house. I have been fixing it up for almost three years, and it still needs more work before I move in full time.

It will be nice when done, looks good in pictures. You should see my grandmother's house built in I think the 20's by my great grandfather. No foundation, just wood on small chunks of concrete. My uncle placed jacks under the corners to kinda level it out.

This right here.

Wityh that said, I need to hire a plumber to assess whether adding new pipes will improve my water pressure. I need to hire a tree removal guy because the one in the backyard is about to fall over onto the house.
I need to hire a GC because I wont have the time to replace/modify my back deck to allow for a cement slab, hot tub and AC unit.

Anyone know anybody?
Tree needs to go first. lol

How big is the tree? Is your yard that big? Where is your yard?

Actually, I may be able to help you with the tree removal guy. My sister-in-law's baby-daddy could fell it for you, and my father-in-law has an industrial wood splitter to deal with it after it comes down.

What kind of tree is it?

I see a bad plan coming together.

Its some tall thin type of tree that p\uyts tons of pllon out, not lage leaves. Trunk looks simliar to Alder.

Here is the key, its about 35-45 tall, but the top 20' are just twiggy thin.
It is in a nasty area in my back yard. Up alongside a fence, but leaning towards the house with a 3 inch gap between it and the lean too.
My thought is it may need some sort of scissor lift, so someone can get up and cut down in sections, but I heard anything over 35' requires a permit.
And actually this last storm just busted one of the top branches, so it might be much shorter very soon.
Ill try to take pictures today, but I just got back fro mthe doctors and about to crash out. Soooo fucking sick...
