Do any of you think that we should trade either Carter or Jefferson for a big?
Lets face it, we don't really need two all-star swingmen with the same capabilities. We probably would make it much further if we had an all-star swingman with a sharp shooter and a very good rebounding big man. It'll be very hard to succeed with two great swingmen short of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Yes, unlike them, we have Kidd, but lets face it, MJ and Pip are two of the greatest players of all time and Kidd doesn't make up for the deficit.
If I had a choice, I rather trade Carter. His value is extremely high right now, and we probably can get someone very good like Pau Gasol + Shane Battier for him. Granted we might have to throw in a pick, but that's pretty damn good if you ask me. A line up of Kidd, Battier, Jefferson, Gasol, Krstic is an athletic, defensive minded line up that could make a lot of noise in the East. Sure, scoring consistency might be a problem, but front courts won't pummel us like they are now.
Or what about Carter for Martin and Boykins? The Nuggets might be tempted because Carter is an all-star 2 gaurd and they have Nene who could still step in. I don't know about the rest of y'all but Kenyon doesn't look right in anything but a Nets uniform. He's gotten better along with Jefferson and with this better squad, we would have a better chance than we have in the past. Kenyon no longer has to face frontcourts alone and has another scorer in Krstic and a brusing frontcourt player in Jackson..or defensive stoppers in Cliff and a much better Collins. Part of me irks about taking such an inflated contracted for Martin, but if it gets us a championship I'm game. Boykins and McInnis would be a great 2nd unit backcourt, though I have problems of them shooting too much. But they'll push the ball each and every time.
If we chose to trade Jefferson, I don't know what we could get. It's hard to gauge his value. Maybe Drew Gooden and future pick? Doesn't really sound all that tempting. Drew plays with a lot of fire but he isn't quite the smartest player. I rather have RJ. I can see the Cavs trading him because they signed Donyell and have Varejao though.
Maybe Troy Murphy and Zarko? They're pretty versatile players, but RJ would still fit best.
I don't think we'd get a fair trade for RJ so I think Carter would be the better if we were to trade.
I just don't see this Nets team going far without a very good low post player...and unless Nenad gained 20 lbs of muscle and worked on his rebounding, I don't see us getting past the second round...we don't have a lot of time with Kidd aging and I really do not want to see him traded..
